College Football Week 4 - Congratulations to the SEC on another MNC

The idea of having my family split between two different schools is such a weird concept for me, given Ohio's relatively homogeneous college football loyalty.

I do have that one bitchy aunt (by marriage) who went to Ohio U and insists on wearing OU gear at any family gathering involving sports. But she doesn't really count because she doesn't give a rat's ass about football and just does it for attention.

More like Mike "the mouth" Hart. I love that he and Henne both cameout and said they returned to beat ohio St and win a MNC. Then the first game of the season they lose to appy st, and then lose to us.

Henne and Hart are two bona fide Ohio State legends. We should induct them in our Hall of Fame.

Hey! She's like most michigan fans in central ohio!

NM, Dooley is a fucking moron. Holy shit at some of these answers to these questions, all optimism is gone.

So, what would be the worst House Divided?

Michigan-OSU jumps to the top of my list.

UNC-Duke is second.

USC-UCLA is gotta be near the bottom.

UCLA-Cal?

Yes, UT-OSU at night with Gus Johnson. The game is going to be first to 100.
Pick your poison: Walsh or Lunt.

I know this is a foreign concept to UT, but we have 2 QBs
who are both competent
.

I'm pretty damn confident, actually. The home crowd will be ridiculously fired up to finally beat Texas at home.

"Bray played a really good game" - WTF????

"I don't think anybody was ready for what happened in the fourth quarter" - as if most of the large touchdowns towards the end of the game weren't caused by broken assignments and poor defense.

"events that were out of our control" - FML

"I was really pleased with our running game" - lolz

I just did. I felt it was appropriate.

I live in GA, there is nothing worse than over optimistic Bulldog fans.

Insert home team here when you're living in another state. I live in Ohio, there's nothing worse than over optimistic Buckeye fans.

You can't blame Dooley. He caught the only ball that came his way the whole night.

You guys moved to a 3-4 this year, correct? You are going to have major growing pains with that the first year or two. Major breakdowns in coverage. You most likely don't have the right nose tackle or ends playing for you if they were recruited for a 4-3.

Bray's issues still stand, but I've always thought he was a bit overrated. But as a coach you still have to call the plays that maximize your players' strengths. You don't want to force guys to do stuff they can't do.

Strange I was too but for some reason it completely disappeared.

Also can we now include having momtentum go against you after stopping a fake punt at the 50 up by 7 with everything going your way to the Dooley's list of creative ways to lose football games?

Five years from now that's the only thing he will be remembered for.

If he would have said that then I would have been okay with such an answer, but instead he acts as if these plays were something unpreventable. For example, the 50+ touchdown catch that resulted from a dump off on third and long was the result of two defenders blocking the same guy and leaving the other receiver wide-open.

Yet no mention of this.

Oh god don't even remind me. My poor self in that moment was fully convinced that we would win the game at that point.

tOSU @ MSU is a 3:30 kickoff. I can't remember the last time MSU has gone this long without a noon kickoff

Oh yeah, I remember 3rd and long being the worst case scenario for Georgia's defense the first year with Grantham. 3rd and short we were actually better at defending. It's just a part of the growing pains with 3-4, and it'd be nice if he said that, but nobody ever does. It's just assumed, and you don't want to blame anyone (unless you're Kiffin). Get used to seeing busted coverages by the secondary. It's just a part of it.

USCe had a starting cornerback get suspended by the SEC for their game against Mizzou this weekend. That's a pretty big loss if Franklin can play for Mizzou.

UGA and Tennessee got picked up for 3:30 next week on CBS.

Why do Bama fans hate ND? As for their football team, he'd dealt with their fans for a lifetime and is just sick of their shit

Seems like you've already answered the question. Everyone is tired of ND getting undeserved boosts in polls, constant chatter in the media, easy ins to BCS/National Title games, and all the while their fans look down their noses at you as their team loses 5-6 times a year.

In summary the majority of the college football world thinks, "Join a fucking conference, shut the fuck up, and realize that you're no longer the Grand Poobah of college football and you haven't been since sometime in the previous century (1993)."

This coming from a Catholic. ;)

Meanwhile in Miami....

Pretty sure I've seen this pic before but I guess I never bothered to look at the stands. Fucking hell that's bad.

Another player suspended by SEC for "flagrant and dangerous" hit. South Carolina DB D.J. Swearinger will miss the Missouri game.

SEC turning into the NFL.

For the Oregon Crowd

I think it's a hand signal saying "You done fucked up, Willie Lyles"

Though I guess it's "O. Quack Quack. Nike Swoosh"

Schiano was in the right, and Coughlin is just being a sourpuss.

So yes, I agree, shockingly enough, Schiano is off to a great start in the NFL. That one move by Schiano showed me that, maybe, he can last in the NFL.
I thought he was off to a great start thanks to kinda revitalizing the bucs, and that Coughlin overreacted a bit, but that it was indeed a bush league move after giving up the game like that.
Man, I loved the reporter taking a jab at Schiano's penchant for scheduling cupcakes (not a coincidence we have Arkansas on the slate after he left).
Aren't the schedules usually formed years in advance?

I don't watch anything local much to be honest.
Dude, you're missing out!

It's basically a recap show with Charlie Strong and the "Voice of the Cards" himself, Paul Rogers. That right there deserves a viewing.

First 20 minutes: They go through and discuss the highlights and lowlights each game, quarter by quarter, with sometimes brutal honesty.
Last 10: Spotlight/discussion with local sports personalities. Last week it was the women's volleyball coach, this week it was Joe Tronzo.

Comes on WHAS11 at 12:30, totally worth DVR'ing and checking out.

Great now we're missing our QB and one of our best defensive playmakers. Should be a fun game to watch, going to need an extra drink or two before going into the stadium

0-11 against ranked opponents since Dooley took over. At some point you've crossed the boundary from optimism to delusion my friend. .

Similarly, this is why I haven't bought into any of the FSU hype (yet): Since Fisher took over in 2010, FSU has not defeated a top 10 team and is just 2-4 versus ranked opponents.

Pretty much any state school. ND has to take the cake for having those people throughout the country, though.

BYU is nearly the same. Mormons show up for away games.

The cursive is awesome.

It's horrible. It's like something from the 70s

I hope that streak is over. I love Muschamp being at Florida. His deep cover spy mission for UGA is working out very well.

If you look at the record prior to 1990, AKA when most Florida fans became Florida fans, you'll find that the matchup wasn't always in UF's favor.

Wasn't always? Or never was. I say the latter. Spurrier changed all that. We beat some Georgia teams that should've dominated us. Hell, Zook almost beat UGA five days after he was fired.

Notre Dame fans. (Note the conspicuous absence of "over optimistic")

I believe we moved to a 3-4 last year. I wasn't convinced it would work in the SEC. But with the right talent and disguises, it is working out well for us now against middle-SEC opponents.

I had to look this up to make sure you just weren't being fatalist. That's amazing. I really thought he had done better than that. I know y'all didn't really have the talent until this year, but still.

Jeebus, I love multi-quote. Thanks evil, etc.

The 3-4 works in the SEC? I don't believe it.

Alabama runs a 0-11 or 11-0 defense. Every player is a DB and every player is a DL.

Same way Meyer's "offense" worked in 2009. By having enough talent to out talent all but the very best team in the country.

Definitely. UGA had better teams quite a few times but couldn't win. We'll see if it holds true or if it's premature, but it seems like the momentum has swung our way and hopefully it'll remain that way for a while now.

Pretty sure you did, Muschamp is a 3-4 guy if I remember correctly. It can work well, it's just all about your personnel.

I see what you did here. It obviously works with good coordinators in place and good talent. Tennessee fans are just thinking that it's going to work in year 1, it doesn't work that way. You'll see improvement in some things, and massive steps back in others.

Not true. Every player is a Jack Linebacker.

To be honest, I meant to type LB instead of DL. But it still works any of the three ways.

You really, really, sound like a lawyer friend of mine here who went to Bama, UF Law, and now works at a local firm. Almost verbatim.

Dear Matt Barkley,

Thank you very much for deciding to forego the millions of dollars you would have earned in the NFL by returning for your senior season here at dear old Southern Cal. I know you were excited by the opportunity to not only achieve personal glory by winning the Heisman, but also by the chance to win a national championship, albeit a mythical one, with your football family. I bet you are probably as upset as I am about losing to Stanford for the fourth (FOURTH!) time in a row. I saw how hard you played Satuday night, and I know you must be tired. Go ahead, lie down here in the road and let me run over you a couple of times with this bus. I know you've sacrified so much for this team, so what's a little bit more?

Anyway, I have to go film another episode of my hit show for Comedy Central. I look forward to seeing you at practice this week.

Hugs and Kiffins,

Laney

Oh, he was just talking about the two interceptions in a row? Kiffin is right. Those decisions were mind-blowingly bad. It was like freshman Barkley again. They were terrible throws into double-coverage.

I don't see how that's throwing him under the bus. He didn't blame him for the loss.

Watch the video. He was definitely throwing him under the bus. Spurrier didn't even do that to his QBs unless they did it to him first.
