College Football Week 9 - You've Got the Touch

Why? Beating a likely 3 loss USC should vault them over a conference champion?

Big 12 is garbage this year (actually seems like all of CFB is this year). Hurts KSU, and their signature win just got out-signature winned

I'd love for KSU to make it. I am a huge fan of Snyder's. But I know the way the wind blows. An undefeated Nike U and Notre Dame aren't getting displaced by Kansas State

What makes us less legitimate than K State or ND? Serious question. What exactly are you guys seeing that the coaches and AP aren't? And do not say "strength of schedule" because none of you are a damn computer.

The computers have the Big 12 SOS much higher than the Pac-12, but OU losing to ND today might change that.

Just got back to my hotel.....I AM SO PUMPED. I can't believe it.....what I great game. I told you all at the beginning of the week. This is what ND football is about take your pick. 31-30 over Miami. Blowing out #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Beating Alabama 24-23 to win the NC. Go back to Leahy or Rockne, I don't care. This is who we are. this is what we do. We are the greatest program in the history of college football.
SUCK IT!!!!
What year did you graduate from ND?

Notre Dame isn't Ivy League. Or Michigan. Or Alabama.

There is pretty much no metric under which Notre Dame is the greatest program in the history of college Football.

Maybe if you start College Football history around 1930 and stop it 30 years ago. Then I'll allow it.

"Nike U" has no chance without a K State loss.

ND might have a chance because Notre Dame.

Lol. I now hate ND.

Oregon is clearly the 2nd (or maybe THE) best team in the country. But, they need overwhelming voter support, because with USC and Oregon State losing, the computers are not going to be their friends. Enough votes in the USA Today and Harris polls would put them in, but they're going to split too many votes with KSU and ND. They'll still probably #2 in the human polls, but Chip is going to need to start politicing.

Yeah, basically this. I have seen no reason to doubt Oregon.

But we all have our own SoS eye tests, and Oregon hasn't played a great schedule. But you can look within and tell they are good. Like how I could look at Florida playing a pretty strong schedule and tell that they weren't as good as Oregon. Regardless of my eye test, the real problem with your schedule is that the computers hate it.

Best wins for Notre Dame and Kansas State:

....Notre Dame......................Kansas State
-------------------------------------------------
1) Oklahoma (5-2).................Oklahoma (5-2)-----------Same
2) Stanford (6-2)..................Texas Tech (6-2)---------Wash
3) Michigan (5-3)..................West Virginia (5-2)--------Wash (maybe slight edge to k-state)
4) Michigan State (5-4)..........Iowa State (5-3)---------Slight edge to ND
5) Brigham Young (5-4)..........Miami (4-4)---------------Edge to ND
5) Navy (5-3).......................North Texas (3-5)---------Edge to ND
7) Miami (4-4).......................Kansas (1-7)-------------Edge to ND
8) Purdue (3-5).....................Missouri State (3-6 FCS)--Edge to ND

As you can see, Notre Dame's schedule so far has been more difficult than Kansas State's. K-State has North Texas, Kansas, and Missouri State on their schedule - 3 gigantic cream puffs. Notre Dame's only cream puff is maybe Boston College (forthcoming).

Going forward Notre Dame still has USC, bu K-state still has OK State, TCU, and Texas. So, it's going to be close, but I think having Missouri State, Kansas and North Texas on K-state's schedule is really going to hurt them.

ND might have a chance because Notre Dame.

It's a bit premature to make these judgments. After all, KSU could feasibly end the season with one or maybe even zero ranked teams on its schedule. How good is KSU going to look if WVU keeps sliding and finishes the season at 7-5?

Don't think so. Computers already loved ND, so I don't think SoS can help them out any more than it already does. They might jump anyways because ND and voters.

I guess K State might lose ground, but most teams sprinkle in a few cream puffs near the end, so I don't know if that will have a huge negative affect

I suppose it is possible. That is usually why I don't argue these things until the end of the season and you see how things shake out in actually winning the games between here and there. See OSU last year.

Regardless, even if OU and WVU fall off a cliff and die, I still think KSU will have a higher SoS than Oregon that will likely have to beat the best 3 remaining teams on their schedule 4 times, further weakening their own SoS.

The next time the power structure of college football surprises me will be the first. An undefeated ND or Oregon are not watching KSU play Alabama. Oklahoma has benefited from this for years. Outsiders always get screwed

SUCK IT!!!!

42 all time less wins than Michigan. A lower all time winning percentage than Michigan.

3 fewer claimed MNC than Alabama. As many Heisman winners as USC and Ohio State.

0 outright conference titles.

I mean the only thing Notre dame really has an edge in is consensus All Americans.

Eh, I really think the CCG would end up working out to Oregon's benefit, but you could be right. All conjecture at this point anyway.

At any rate my BCS Top 10 prediction for tomorrow:

1. Alabama - They haven't had the best computer rankings, but slaughtering another ranked team helps, plus the human polls keep them up.

2. Notre Dame - The computers loved them and the humans have been looking for a reason to either drop them or move them up. Tonight they gave them a reason to move them up.

3. Kansas State - I could also see them being #2, its gonna be close between the two either way.

4. Oregon - The Ducks played the worst team out of the top 4 teams this weekend. Yes they obliterated them but they kind of had to in order to stay relevant.

5. LSU - I would've thought maybe Oregon State could be here if they could've won again, but they're gonna tumble a bit. My gut tells me this is LSU's spot now.

6. Georgia - Why not? They just knocked off computer darling Florida and now are in the drivers seat for the SEC CCG.

7. Florida - The computers will still love them, but their destiny is out of their own hands now.

8. Florida State - Welcome back to the party Seminoles!

9. Oregon State - I could see them dropping to 10 or 11 just as easily.

10. South Carolina - A 2 loss SEC team is still better than an undefeated Big East team, suck it Louisville.

All true, but you're forgetting their decided advantage at being Notre Dame.

Blue I see Ore sT falling way down more...They will find an excuse to drop them

Its possible, but I think the fact that the final was close, no one on the east coast saw it, and UW has an upset already to their credit makes it look like a tough division loss.

The thing is everyone from 8-15 lost except Georgia and Florida State. So you have Louisville who sucked on Friday or you have Oregon State who no one saw suck tonight. Everyone else has 2 losses.

True.
Hopefully we can still have 2 PAC 12 teams in the top 10.

Just got back to my hotel.....I AM SO PUMPED. I can't believe it.....what I great game. I told you all at the beginning of the week. This is what Kentucky football is about take your pick. 30-33 loss in the Bluegrass Miracle to LSU. Getting blown out by Western Kentucky in 2012. Running Bear Bryant to Alabama and letting him win a national title. Go back to Mumme or Curry, I don't care. This is who we are. this is what we do. We are the greatest program in the history of college football.
SUCK IT!!!!

I appreciate this. We can make it the Japanese Culture thread of College Football GAF.

You know Kent State is pissed...

For Rutgers, it was "beat Arkansas, lose to a team who lost to Kentucky"
For Kent State, it was "beat Rutgers, lose to Kentucky"

Y'all will beat Samford, at least. 2-10...wow.

Basketball did the best, so football did the worst.

Next few weeks are gonna be insane. I imagine by the time we play Va Tech in two weeks we'll be back up to #6 or so due to a team or two losing next week.

Back from a Halloween party... OSU lost?

wat

Oregon's SOS is weak. If only they had had a better team on the schedule, like, oh I dunno, a K-State caliber team.

Combined record of Oregon's opponents: 30-35

Combined record of K-State's opponents 27-27

Combined record of Oregon's remaining opponents: 21-11

Combined record of K-State's remaining opponents 19-11

Closer than I thought.

No doubt pxl would agree that this is the best possible method of measuring SoS.

Add in the PAC 12 title game and you've got yourself a stew going.

Sending a 3 or 4 loss team to their 4th or 5th loss isn't really gonna help that much.

Oh for sure, but people I took the similarity as a positive considering the ooc resume each conference has. Plus you included the AA team records which dilutes things.

And well...

5-3 Fresno State
5-3 Arkansas State
AA Tennessee Tech (replacement when KSU backed out)

vs.

4-4 Miami
3-6 North Texas (Oregon replacement)
AA Missouri State

Alright, I'm back out, peace

So lets say Oregon, Notre Dame, and Kansas State all run the table. Alabama goes into the SEC Championship game undefeated, and loses to a one lose Georgia team. What happens? Does the team representing the presumably best conference, who just beat what almost everybody feels is easily the best team in the country, not play for the national championship? If so, who gets in?

Poor Vols. Program has been in shambles longer than I could have ever imagined. They really tried but failed again.

Really hope Notre Dame ends up in the NC against Alabama. I predict a 50 point plus win for Bama then.
