College Football Week 9 - You've Got the Touch

Misery sure loves company. I checked out from watching games after the loss, an we decided to enjoy the island instead. 10 top 25 losses though?! Wow. I feel less bad, but of all the games to lose, Georgia? *sigh* I guess 11-1 will do nicely.

11 - 1 will suit Alabama nicely like it did last year, but Florida is more likely to be 10 - 2

Poor Vols. Program has been in shambles longer than I could have ever imagined. They really tried but failed again.

Really hope Notre Dame ends up in the NC against Alabama. I predict a 50 point plus win for Bama then.
I predict a Bama-LSU style slugfest.

ND's defense is for real.

Crazy day yesterday. Noles totally rolled Duke as expected, which is nice. Wasn't happy about the turnovers, but at least Duke didn't really capitalize on them. Once the Noles were up by like 30, I started watching the UF / UGA game and only occasionally flipping back to FSU/Duke. So much ineptitude on both sides of the UF/UGA game (but the SEC is amazing so it must mean that both teams are just too damn good for each other, right?). I kind of wanted Florida to win to help FSU's SoS but I can't really complain about the Gators losing the game on essentially the last play of the game and then getting to watch their players cry like babies for the next 10 minutes of coverage.

Also, totally called the Oregon State upset. I mean, I think a lot of people did, but still. They were so overrated, just bound to fuck up at some point.

You can say that for a lot of the programs really.

I guess in CFB Gaf we don't get a lot of the frat boy mentality when being pumped up about winning programs though.

That's what I like about CFBGAF. Yeah, folks will get fired up during rivalry games, but there's usually not a lot of serious shit talking. It's mostly getting laughs out of the derps.

So, it seems for ND fans to feel good about themselves everyone else has to "suck it".

Oh man, I don't know whether to make clergy jokes or recent history of the program jokes.

By definition, C-USA 2.0 is still better than C-USA

And wow @ Washington marching...

edit: and they're up 3 with a minute and a half to go...

Fair enough.

Yesterday was a worse loss than Cincy in '06.

The day after is only serving to put the horrific loss in proper perspective, which is... worse than I thought in the immediate aftermath.

Edit: Yes, Kyle Flood started 7-1, but it was against an incredibly cream puffy schedule with a team that had a significant talent margin over all of its opponents. Other than Arkansas, if one wants to look at recruiting rankings, Rutgers finished something like 30 spots above all its opponents to date year after year. And, as we all know, Arkansas is coached by John L. Smith which is a significant handicap. You want your coaches to be senile after all.

Back from a Halloween party... OSU lost?

wat

Oregon's SOS is weak. If only they had had a better team on the schedule, like, oh I dunno, a K-State caliber team.

So you're a computer too? I know how the system works. I was speaking to those who think we are overrated despite what the coaches think, what the AP thinks, and the fact that we've blown out every team we've played regardless of where they stood in the rankings. I was asking whether or not we deserve to be in the MNC from an objective standpoint, not from a "I'mma computuh and your schedule sux" standpoint.

Just got back to my hotel.....I AM SO PUMPED. I can't believe it.....what I great game. I told you all at the beginning of the week. This is what Kentucky football is about take your pick. 30-33 loss in the Bluegrass Miracle to LSU. Getting blown out by Western Kentucky in 2012. Running Bear Bryant to Alabama and letting him win a national title. Go back to Mumme or Curry, I don't care. This is who we are. this is what we do. We are the greatest program in the history of college football.
SUCK IT!!!!

I like this.

Except to Clarify, Bear Left you to go to A&M, not Alabama. That came later.

I still believe Zigzz14 is either a joke character or actually 14.

Now our plan comes together. Clemson will be too rested and over confident and wham, we get the jump on them!!!!

I think if I repeat this enough I will believe it! BELIEVE!

We only have 3 conference games left to Clemson it up. That gives you a 33% chance!

I doubt that many people think Oregon is overrated without being a Nike hater. I agree with you though that objectively you deserve to be in the MNC title game. But so does KState, Alabama, and ND. So what are you going to objectively base it off of? SoS, Total offense for and against, total defense for and against, what else?

Wow, that 4 team playoff sure sounds good right now, doesn't it?

Seems like ESPN/BCS have gotten the computer ratings folks to hold their numbers until the ESPN release which stinks. Sagarin is the only with updated rankings... For what it's worth, here are some of his MNC contenders rankings.

JS
1 Kansas State
2 Notre Dame
3 Florida
4 LSU
6 Georgia
7 Alabama
8 Oregon
33 Florida State

SWEET! Honestly having these games back to back and then the bye really sucks. The team bounced back fine from Stanford and won 4 straight. Bounced back from VT to beat UNC. Duke actually has not had a losing streak this year!

Clemson is probably too talented to hope the same here. I worry our confidence will be shot when coming out of the bye getting blasted twice in a row. If we play Clemson tough, then maybe that will be different. I still think we have another win somewhere. Just have to hope GT is beat to shit when we play them.

Had a wedding last night, missed the finish of the Mich/Neb, OSU/Penn St, ND/OK, etc.

Shocked at the results late last night.
Shocked and appalled.

Anyways, still reeling from that Badger loss to Mich St. Once Stave went down, it was a lock. Still, the close ones just kill you.

Fellow Badger fans (all 3 of them on here), or the rest of the B1G fans who want to see Wisc fail-
It was reported last night that Stave is out for the year with a broken collarbone. Doctors said he might be back for the bowl, but advised to wait until Spring Ball to return. It's the 3rd time he's broken one.

So, season pretty much down the drain with O'Brien at the helm. At least we'll get the Little Ceasars or Meineke Car Care Bowl.

In other news I feel awful for my father in law who opted not to got to the UNC/NC State game with his son, because nobody knew how the weather was going to be.
He had to witness the Duke/UNC game firsthand so seeing this game yesterday would have been a nice payoff.

I've been thinking of writing a lengthy post about the Auburn program and where things are headed...but honestly, this season can be summed up in one sentence:

Hire Charlie Strong.

Please no. I really like Charlie Strong, and him going to Auburn would just be sicking

Edit: It would be a great hire, I just don't like Auburn. I enjoy seeing them at 1-7.

Well the UL AD has gone on record stating he will make Strong the highest paid coach in the nation if he has to. So, Auburn would need to pony up some serious money. Although given your history with paying people, I guess it won't be too tall of a task. You won't even have to hide it this time!

I suppose its unlikely Strong stays at UL. I also expect (and hope) Mike McIntyre from SJSU gets a shot at a big time position. He was Coach Cutcliffe's first defensive coordinator in 2008 and 2009

Auburn being 1-7 is great for everyone.

No, it hurts the SEC, it hurts the cities of Auburn and Opelika financially (fewer people frequenting the businesses), and it hurts the university financially.

I get that you "hate" AU for whatever reason, but there are bigger things at stake than personal preference. UK being 1-8 also is bad, whether funny or not.

Sure does!

I always believed a 10 team playoff would be the best thing for college football. First and second seeds get a bye. Like this.

UK can make up for it being the premier College BBall program right now. Auburn has nothing to fall back on.

I completely understand and agree with all those points. I'm just giving you a hard time.

Oregon lost more ground in this poll to Kansas State and more Notre Dame vs last week.

Don't see Strong leaving Louisville for any of the positions that are opening up.

He can still win big in the Big East and accomplish his goals at a program with the name cache and recruiting ability of Louisville.

I'm sure you're right, but I'm going to keep dreaming. Not sure who Auburn would land otherwise who could come close to Strong's ability. Honestly, though, anyone with a history of winning - not losing - will do.

I'm hearing rumblings George O'Leary will retire after this season. He's good at taking teams from nothing to somewhat above nothing.

I wonder if there's going to be a ceiling for Ohio State if some '07 like shenanigans break out and everyone in front of them loses. That time, they backed into the MNC without playing-but this time, they won't have a bowl to crap the bed in. So if they go undefeated, in that terrible B1G, I have to believe their ceiling is #3 in the AP, right?
