For the first time since PS2, Sony will not be able to rely on the extra "push" given by putting a next-gen media format in its console.

PlayStation 2 had a DVD reader. PlayStation 3 had a blu-ray reader.

PlayStation 4 won't get this extra selling engine, another "step backwards" in comparison to the situation at the start of the current generation.

Sports !" showing how "amazing" Xbox One (Kinnect enabled) is to easily handle and manage everything from your couch with simple voice commands... with all this focus on media features and easy control over them how are you going to sell the Kinnect-less Xbox One ? saying you need to press here and there twice and then here again on a controller and you need paying $100 extra for what was advertised in the first place, or just change the advertising and marketing campaign ?

they designed everything around Kinnect, expecting it was going to be the major selling point... Xbox play Call of Duty, Xbox snap ESPN, Xbox save and go home, Xbox download Forza demo... but they're changing everything and reversing policies in a serious panic attack, I wonder how devs focusing on Kinnect features would take the news of a new Xbox One with optional Kinnect, the Xbox One they first revealed has little to do now with what is being launched who knows when and where, you can't trust Microsoft this gen at all.

Heh... I'm expecting several announcements in this direction in the next weeks, expecially after the whole Loeb discussions of the past weeks and the firm answer given by Hirai. After that I guess that Playstation 4 HAS to be also some kind of tie between Sony Entertainment and SCE.

I don't think GamesCom will be the proper place to announce such a US-centric strategy, yet I'm waiting for news in this direction.

Let's wait and see.

I think that most people here take for granted that Xbox One will fail and sell considerabily less than PlayStation 4.

In reality, Xbox One is starting this generation in a much better position than Xbox 360 did.

At the time Sony held LOTS of important third-party games as exclusives or timed exclusives.

Final Fantasy was basically a Sony exclusive (no, Crystal Chronicles does not count, sorry)
Metal Gear Solid too.
Kingdom Hearts too.
Namco was literally in love with Sony (Tekken as an historic exclusive of the Sony consoles)
Grand Theft Auto was a Sony timed exclusive.
Capcom was publishing lots of Sony-exclusive games.

Right now the situation is DEEPLY changed, Xbox 360 is the best selling console in the US, it managed to build its own library of games, has a very active (and loyal?) online base and, on the other hand, "PlayStation" is no longer the synonym for "videogame" in Europe.

So... why is Xbox One already deemed as a failure? Are you guys REALLY sure that the large mass of buyers care about 180° turnarounds, behind-the-curtain stories and funny animated gifs?

90% of buyers will simply buy the console if they are interested in it, regardless of whatever happened (or was about to happen) BEFORE the console arrived on the shop shelves. And this people will decide if the Xbox One will be a success or a failure. Just them, not a bunch of informated/passionate people writing on NeoGaf.

I really can't wait to see how the console will perform. I think it will be very, very interesting.

That's all well and good, but the fact remains that you can still get a Day One XBone edition (directly from Microsoft, no less), but you cannot find a PS4 launch guarantee anymore. That has been the situation for months now.

PS4 is destroying Microsoft in presales which is why you're seeing all the 180s.

from my thread on 6/15/13, I predicted/suggested five moves Microsoft will/must make to put the Xbone in position to have a real chance to be the "winner" of the next generation war. If what Cboat says about a Kinectless SKU comes true early 2014, then three out of five of my predictions can be checked off with the last two being only a matter of time (or similar such deals)....

1. Drop DRM (check)
2. Better Indie Program (check)
3. Drop Price to $399 or more value added (almost check if Kinect comes true)

4. Get League of Legends and Dayz (?)
5. Get Oculus Rift or something similar, exclusive (?)

I'd imagine MS could lower the prices on the console (and maybe even the games) and knock Sony out of the running in some regions.

That reddit guy isn't denying much. Outside of the performance of the SDK the rest is pretty much I have no idea or it's well known.

Saying you will sell 100% of your inventory doesn't mean there is no production problem. I doubt they are producing a low number of consoles on purpose and giving away a free game to people who preordered in a country where the Xbox one got delayed for fun.

Recently, the only time cboat was wrong was on the Prince of Persia thing but even then we know the game exists.

I hope both MS and Sony pursue this straight to TV approach, eventually. This would be a pretty amazing move for two seemingly stagnant industries (i don't have numbers, but I constantly hear gloom and doom stories from both console projections and cable subscriptions). A partnership of this magnitude could be exactly what both industries need.

I doubt MS cares that much or he's high ranking enough that nobody makes too much of a fuss. All they would have to do is cross check who checks out GAF with someone who has access to the information. They don't even need him to log on.

Vanquish isn't "unique". It's a TPS. This will be an IP Platinum probably couldn't get greenlit and with MS throwing money around to lock down exclusives, Platinum saw a "sucker" sign on MS and MS saw "hardcore gamer cred" in Platinum. I'd say this will be the One's Arnarchy Reigns.

And even if he was correct 90 % of the time like you said. That means there is still a chance he is wrong again am I correct ?

from my thread on 6/15/13, I predicted/suggested five moves Microsoft will/must make to put the Xbone in position to have a real chance to be the "winner" of the next generation war. If what Cboat says about a Kinectless SKU comes true early 2014, then three out of five of my predictions can be checked off with the last two being only a matter of time (or similar such deals)....

1. Drop DRM (check)
2. Better Indie Program (check)
3. Drop Price to $399 or more value added (almost check if Kinect comes true)

4. Get League of Legends and Dayz (?)
5. Get Oculus Rift or something similar, exclusive (?)

The first three are just optimism and thousands of people said the same (CBOAT just reports what he actually knows and not what he hopes for)

The second two are still unknown.

What does this prove?
