I've seen Blade 2 and First Class. I may check out Captain America after all.
So this is one of the rare Sundays that I may not have to go into work, and I feel like watching a movie. Any good superhero movies you guys suggest? I watched Thor a few weeks ago - thought it was pretty good. I've also enjoyed most of the X-Men movies. I was thinking Captain America? Is that any good? What about Fantastic Four?
Thinking about this thread and artists and writers, and how Marvel is just enjoying success by poaching DC's talent I'm trying to cobble together a pool of the next talent Marvel will poach from DC.
My tops so far are:
Ivan Reis (put him on Namor and I'm sold - to hell with Suckquaman, better yet Avengers)
Patrick Gleason
Cliff Chiang
Haven't seen The Goon teaser trailer have you?Because Hollywood makes great comic book movies, right?
No thanks. I'd prefer Goon stay on paper.
I just saw that a new issue of Twelve is coming out.
Is this real life?
It will probably come to nothing, but there is a petition out there that will hopefully generate some buzz from Hollywood to get The Goon movie made.

Cool, when's it coming out? I've read that JMS returned to Marvel to finish it a few weeks ago.
alright GAF, looking to start reading comics. My GF got me The Amazing Spiderman Essentials Vol. 1 and I'd want to start the X-Men comics as well, plus I want to start from the very beginning. Would it be better to be starting off with the Essentials, Masterworks, or Omnibus(keep in mind pricing and ease of getting)
Just watched Captain America. It was...OK. I thought Thor was a much better movie. It did end on a high note though. Also, Hugo Weaving is the man.
I don't know much about comics having just started reading them three weeks ago, but I started with X-Force and I'm loving it. I'm buying trade paperbacks off Amazon for about $10 a piece, and they're pretty entertaining. Plus from what I understand the X-Force line is still ongoing, so might be a good way to get started with the X books?

Marvel likes getting their writers from Image. Aren't most of the "architects" ex Image writer?
I think Jason Aaron more or less started at the big 2, but you are correct for the most part. Marvel likes to hire writers who have proven themselves on creator owned titles.
I felt like Captain America was fun, C+/B- material that lacked a middle act (or had its middle act condensed into a three minute montage) and a lazy, convenient ending (I've got to crash the plane just so I can be frozen for the sequel!) which hurt it. I felt Thor was all around terrible with a "romance" that felt tacked on and humor in the form of Kat Dennings that made me want to smash my head into a wall.I thought Thor was better, but I thought they were both pretty mediocre. Don't have a whole lot of hope for Avengers, personally.
Just reading Invincible and they totally nailed it with companies restarting series like the 52 thing with DC
Doesn't apply. They are not going back to the old continuity. Kirkman knows this but is doing it for the quick buck.
If you want to be completely jaded, then comics are fucked no matter what but at least DC tried to stop the bleeding.
That panel doesn't say anything about going back to old continuity (Batman and Green Lantern already did that lololololol), it said they were going back to old numbering which every DC and Marvel comic that ever reset it's numbering has eventually done.
They've also explicitly stated that that's not happening either. Kirkman is just being as much of an asshat as some online.

Unless of course if he's not talking about the New52 since he doesn't mention that either.
How's the TMNT book? Thinking about picking up the all back issues.
You honestly think that the numbering is going to stay like that forever? Not even forever...5 years?
Also, the continuity will probably revert too. It's not going to be all at once but it will happen gradually. That's what happened post-crisis. Dan Jurgens liked reading about the Fortress of Solitude as a kid, so he put it back in. Jeoh Loeb liked reading about Supergirl (the real one) as a kid, so he put her back in. Someone (IDR who) put Krypto back in no doubt for the same reason. By the mid 00s Superman barely even resembled what John Byrne had done.
It's very good. Make sure to read the Raph and Mikey issues before reading #6 though.

Ok, I don't want to tell you how to live your life or anything, but you do know those early comics kinda suck, right? I mean they're interesting from a historical standpoint and occasionally entertaining, but they're not exactly what I would call good comics. You way better off finding a modern acclaimed run and jumping in there. The you're guaranteed a great story and you can move backwards and forwards in time a it suits you.
The past 20/30 years have had some amazing mind blowing comics. Starting in the 60s just feels like you're going to get very bored before you get to the good stuff.
My advice, if you want to read spidey then jump on at Brand New Day and read on. X-Men, start with Whedons run and see where it takes you.
Didn't read the thread this week, so I'm not sure if anyone has said anything, but I was not a fan of remender's first issue on secret avengers
the writing was...horrible
Sounds like everything Remender I've sampled. NOT SHOCKED.
Will try to polish off February OT tonight or post it up tomorrow at the latest.
Anybody hear about a book called Blacksad? It's set in an anthropomorphic- no wait, don't go! It's like, 1950s McCartheyism private eye/noir style awesomeness, except everybody is like, cat people and bird people and whatever. It's pretty great. Translated from French I think though, so it loses a little something in translation... I don't really like the rhythm of the speech, and it's not complex or anything. But the style is absolutely gorgeous.
I read Laika! It was enjoyable! Thank you for the recommendation GAF. I admit to knowing much of the Laika story already so it didn't make me weep buckets, but as someone who imagines dogs talking to him all the time I did sympathise with Miss Yelena...
Did you just imply that the Steve Ditko Spider-Man run sucks?
How's the TMNT book? Thinking about picking up the all back issues.
WHAAAAAAA? No no no. His Frankencastle is made for you. And his UXF is the best book on the planet for the last 19 issues. Issue 20 was recalled and burned.
You be nice!
They're fascinating from a historical standpoint, but I'd agree that neither the art nor the writing have aged particularly well.

Anyone else reading the new Transformers series? I liked the first 2 #1s. Never been a Transformers comics reader, so I don't even know, is this a direct continuation of the previous IDW series?
