hey guys you all know about the marvel mmo-ish diablo-clone free pc game that went into beta this week, right? looks pretty damn good and black panther/daredevil/rocket raccoon are in it so you know it's good.

yup. I am actively checking up with them and their twitter for updates. Those that register this week should eventually receive a survey in the mail. They will take people from that survey and they will be able to get into the closed beta next week. If you are going to new york comic-con, they have a "very limited" amount of beta keys they are giving away there as well.

Are Spider-Man: Sins Past and Sins Remebered canon? I stumbled upon it on 4chan's /co/ and after reading about it a bit, it doesn't really make sense. I see that there are people saying its just shitty writing however it's canon and other people saying it's just not canon and Marvel is trying to sweep it under the rug.
It's a sad, sordid part of official continuity that everyone would love nothing better than to forget... except Marvel, apparently.

Speaking personally... for some Spidey fans, it was BONG. For me, "Sins Past" was the moment I abandoned Spider-Man comics entirely... and to be honest, never fully returned. Don't get me wrong, I'm over it now -- and will, on occasion, pick up a story if it sounds interesting or fun. However, I don't get into Spider-Man comics the way that I used to, and "Sins Past" is THE reason that disconnect exists in the first place. In fact, there was a period between 2004 and 2007/2008 where, with a handful of exceptions (Slott's She-Hulk, Planet Hulk, the X-Books to name them), I got out of Marvel Comics because of stories like "Sins Past," and became more heavily invested in DC.

They certainly seem to take turns being overall really terrible for a period of some years, and then they switch places suddenly. I personally can't stand anything DC publishes right now, and on the Marvel side there's several books that I think are great, and a few I'm looking forward to in the Marvel Now line. However, like six years ago or more Marvel's output was completely awful and I would occasionally pick up a few DC books.

Okay all this talk about Sins Past is really bringing me down. Such a terrible tarnish on what should have been an untouchable character. I haven't read the old Spidey stories involving Gwen, but the comics have built her up to the one true love of Parker. What I really don't like about this story-arc is it ruined the Osborn character, he now can hold that above Spidey's head for the rest of his life. Every Spidey/Goblin fight "hey Parker remembered when I banged the love of your life."

Sadly, everyone, including writers, want to forget that shit but editorial won't let us. I doubt we will ever hear about it again. The clone saga was bad, but at least it's over and we don't have to think about it anymore, plus it gave us Kaine who is now the Scarlet Spider, which is great. Sins Past gave us nothing but heartache.

I mean does Batman have any arcs as bad as that? There are a shit ton of good Batman stories, but I don't know of any that horrible and or irredeemable.

Doug Mahnke's artwork was the only reason I bought "Under the Red Hood." I still think it was a terrible idea to bring Jason Todd back from the dead.

"Hush" generally gets a pass because of Jim Lee's artwork; but paper-thin plot aside, it's a good casual introduction to the world of Batman comics I think. Emphasis on casual. As a story "Heart of Hush" was definitely better, though I remember not liking Selina's portrayal in relation to how her regular series ended.

Anyone watch Dark Knight Returns Part 1? Thought they did a pretty solid job with it. Fight scenes really felt like they had that right amount of brutality to them. Makes me want to reread.... yet again. :)

In the notes section

During Brand New Day, it is believed to no longer exist as he was mentioned only once and not mentioned again. This is proven to be true, in one issue where Spider-Man states that Harry Osborn is Norman's "only son". It is mentioned by Norman that he cannot impregnate a woman who hasn't taken the Goblin serum; something that Gwen didn't do. When Molecule Man tortures Norman and the Dark Avengers; in Norman's memories one shows a pregnant Gwen Stacy being killed. This implies that Sins Past is not retconed. It is believed that when Norman stated that he could only impregnate a woman who has taken the Goblin Serum; he may have been referring he could but with massive side-effects, and since Lily Hollister had taken the Goblin Serum; her child my have a chance for normalcy. Yet, it also implies whether or not Sins Past has been retconned or not.

Seems to go back and forth. It's weird. I guess it's just up to the reader if they rather have Gwen have a secret past or have Gwen be innocent/pure and Peter's "true" love.

I haven't read the issues, yet, but what is the disconnect?

Okay!

Comic shop is a lock.

I'm thinking:

- Free B&W sketches on sketch cover comics purchased.
- Free sketch card w/ purchase of regular priced item in lieu of sketch cover.

FREE! FREE! FREE!

THIS IS NOT HOW TO MAKE MONEY!

Captain Badass is that you?!

Anyone else laugh at loud at Dick's retconned New 52 Robin costume?

On the other hand, I thought this was pretty cool:

Doug Mahnke's artwork was the only reason I bought "Under the Red Hood." I still think it was a terrible idea to bring Jason Todd back from the dead.

By default, it was a bad idea because bringing a character back from the dead is always a bad idea.

That said, I think it made Jason Todd a far, far more interesting character. Before, it was, "Jason Todd who? Oh that punk who was Robin for five minutes." Now there's a lot more to him, and I like the idea of an "actual" antihero in the Batman family.

It also didn't undo the damage his death did to Batman, either.

Now, almost all the stories with Red Hood since his resurrection have been crap, but that's a separate issue.

Just finished up reading Robin: Year One. Loved it. Felt like a really great series of episodes of the old batman cartoon.

Ah yeah, same, I picked it up during the sale a few weeks ago. Hit all the notes it needed to, and actually focused on Robin (unlike Batman: Year One which was 50% Batman at best...)

Anybody want free digital comics?

Journey into Mystery
Everyone please give this a try if you weren't already reading it.

Amazing Spider-Man
They ended Brand New Day and started Big Time. Become a fan of Humberto Ramos

Ultimate Human
An Ultimate story with Iron Man and Hulk, Warren Ellis writes these characters so well.

I'm sure this is a marketing tool so marvel can get people to buy the rest of the arc. Happy Reading.

Hey, don't know if this is a silly question but...

I'm in the US today, can I buy new comics from Barnes & Noble or do I need to find a small shop somewhere?

Big ticket book stores usually only stock graphic novels and tpbs.

Go here and find a comic shop:

Comic shops are cooler anyways.

Thanks, not sure I'll find the time to get to one though. I'm planning to go see Dredd (not expected in my country until November sometime) later and there is a B&N beside the cinema.

B&N does carry comics now, but I can't vouch for what titles they get and uf they put new stuff out on Wednesdays.

Some of them will while others will only carry trades, as what was said before. Not that there are anything wrong with trades. I'd wait for my stories to be put into a trade if I were a more patient person.

edit: Ok guys here me out, AvX 6 is worth looking at because it's really freaking funny after the Hope vs Wanda battle. I love the cyclops vs Cap verbal abuse battle.

Squirrel Girl fight sucked.

welldanslottdidwriteitsoooo

Anyways, it's a Great Week for comics. Holy fucking shit I do not want Defenders to end but it's going to and it's all your fault but holy shit it's just gonna be so fucking crazy.

Also, CHAYKIN DRAWING THE HAUNTED TANK WHY ARE YOU NOT READING GI COMBAT.

Also, wtf at Joker "planting" Jason Todd as Robin. I guess in New 52-verse Bruce and Todd were never seen together? Otherwise now Joker knows Bruce is Batman.

AvX : Consequences.

So it went from Avengers vs X-Men to the whole friggin' world against Cyclops. My dreams have come true. So now what do we do with the douche? He can stay in his ruby quartz prison like Magneto in the movie. Scott can play chess with Xavier. Oh wait, he can't. BECAUSE HE MURDERED HIM!

It's time for the ultimate consequences. Maybe a good old hanging. Personally I think Wolverine deserves the coup de grace. It's time for the adamantium lobotomy. Just make it a good splash page worthy of a full size poster. They'll sell millions.

Then the Uncanny Avengers can round up the rest of team PENIS and ridicule them for the rest of the issue. It's going to be a great comic.

Well AvX # 12 was a load of crap. Cap America gets to be a hypocrtical douchebag but Marvel can never have him be wrong because he is America after all. What a shitty conclusion and pointless event.

At least it sold enough to have Perlmutter off everyones back.

He's probably known longer than that, but doesn't care. He knows Batman is the one without the mask, anyways.

Glad I just finished up AvX 12 before I came in here. Comic shops aren't even open on the west coast yet, why don't you dicks label your spoilers?

They sort of have an "out" in that Jason says he "spent his nights as Robin," presumably implying he lived his days normally as he did pre-Batman... but that doesn't make a ton of sense.

Then again, the conclusion of the original Death in the Family heavily hinted Joker knew anyways (he burst out laughing when he saw Bruce at the UN), and Morrison's stuff has its fair share of winks and nudges in that direction too.

Don't know what I think of all this. I guess it makes me excited for Death of the Family, if Joker knows then all hell is definitely going to break loose.
