Should I get a West Coast Avengers omnibus for $50? I have never read one page of West Coast Avengers but am in the mood for some 80s stuff from Marvel after reading Deadpool.

Here's what it's got:
WEST COAST AVENGERS (1984) #1-4, IRON MAN ANNUAL #7, AVENGERS (1963) #250, WEST COAST AVENGERS (1985) #1-16, VISION AND THE SCARLET WITCH (1985) #1-2, AVENGERS ANNUAL (1967) #15, WEST COAST AVENGERS ANNUAL #1; and material from AVENGERS (1963) #239, #243-244 and #246, and AVENGERS WEST COAST #100.

that sounds cool, I was a big Hawkeye geek though

I like it but I read them first when I was little, like 10 maybe whenever it was new? (the Mockingbird rapetype stuff flew over my head..that was after this though) I do think I bailed on it around that Vision story Byrne started

edit
What might be a good introductory run for Black Panther?

yeah, reading those issues makes me feel like Byrne really fucking hated Scarlet Witch and Vision being married because the first thing he does it break them up. It's a pretty dick move too because (as I understand it) dudes like Englehart spent ages building them up.

It's Craig Kyle's fault. Not content in co-writing shitty X-Force stories, he took his garbage to the small screen by producing and writing the following atrocities.

Doctor Strange
Fantastic Four (2006 animated series)
The Invincible Iron Man
Ultimate Avengers 2
Ultimate Avengers
Hulk Vs (Hulk Vs Wolverine segment only, credited as Story along with Frank Paur for the Hulk Vs Thor segment)
X-Men: Evolution (8 episodes)
Wolverine and the X-Men

Actually X-Men: Evolution was decent. But still. Get better people, Marvel.

I liked Doctor Strange! Perhaps that is because I don't know THAT much about him.

Justice League #18 was disappointing, i'm lost with Johns on this run. I liked the first opening arc enough but the second Trevor focused one wasn't very appealing, the cheetah two issues was a little bizarre, throne of atlantis crossover was okay but really straight-forward, and now 18 seems like a dull transition issue waiting for Trinity War. I've seen team gatherings too much already for this to stand out.

I agree it's not his best work, and I've enjoyed little of it besides Throne of Atlantis and Shazam. Hope it picks up during Trinity War

I have been on a spending spree recently. I haven't read comics for years, but I decided to buy a bunch of trade paperbacks and hardcover editions of stuff from the New 52 and Marvel Now.

So far, I've liked what I read so far and the series with volumes I ordered/preordered include...
Batman
Green Lantern
Wonder Woman
Hawkeye
Avengers vs. X-Men
All New X-Men
Justice League

I'll probably order/preorder more volumes from other series in the next few months.

Shameful prediction time:

I have never read Crisis on Infinite Earths despite being a comic reader for close to 20 years now.

Is the story still worth reading today?

I read it for the first time recently myself and it's pretty fun. Goes on a little too long though.

I remember Crisis of Infinite Earths to be a sluggish read when i went through the trade after getting into comics ~10 years ago or so. You might as well try it, but not if it's at the expense of other comics. Maybe a library?

I kind of agree, though I liked Atlantis a lot.

With the news he was moving on from GL I wish he would just go to JLoA, Aquaman and save Superman. His Supes run (Secret Origin, Brainiac, Legion, Last Son, etc.) was fucking great.

My instocktrades order showed up today. I have a lot of reading to do:

I've asked him a couple questions about it on tumblr. He's really open about his struggles.

Him and Gillen are probably the best at social media. Fraction's twitter and tumblr are really funny/good and Gillen is just straight up awesome at interacting with fans/critics.

No hobo piss here~

e: I like Deconnick too, but she can be a bit tryhard sometimes.

So after getting caught up on the current Daredevil series, I've gone back to read the Bendis run on Daredevil. I gotta say, Hornhead might be my favorite superhero ever. The guy is just fucking awesome, and that entire supporting cast-Foggy, Luke Cage, Iron Fist...I love that entire group. I wish they could somehow make a really well done HBO series about the street level Marvel Heroes. Wouldn't have to be condensed into a 2 hour movie-let the long form story breathe...that would be the best.

I always thought X-men would work better as a TV show than anything. Trying to compress 17 years worth of Claremont's superhero soap opera into 2 hours seems like a fool's errand. One of the appeals of that run is how the characters gradually grow and change over YEARS of stories, but with a movie you only have time for THE ULTIMATE X-MEN STORY.

Budget wise though, these guys would be relatively easy to pull off. You don't get DD flipping off the roof of buildings easily but you know.

I loved Johns on Action Comics, but i think a Johns Superman today would be similar to the New Krypton stuff that made me drop the book than the previous arcs i liked.

I hope you aren't talking about the Mon El arc of New Krypton. Because if you are, we gon have words, my friend.

Pile up every New Krypton book in a corner and set it ablaze. I didn't read World of New Krypton or whatever that was, after making it through the 11ish issue New Krypton crossover i bailed out.

Haven't cared for a Superman book since, Morrison's Action Comics didn't click with me and i grew to hate Cornell's Luthor focused Action Comics after it merged into that Doomsday silliness. And if Johns' writing of the Justice League were what i was solely going on, i wouldn't pick up a single book of any DC character, it's entirely bland. I'm curious on Superman Unchained but Batman Superman's 3.99/no back-up pricing is keeping me off that.

From your various posts, I get the feeling you hate crossovers :p

hate hate hate. It's funny though since the first crossover i read was Sinestro Corps War and it was amazing and then i've hated every other Green Lantern crossover since, especially War of the Green Lanterns and almost all crossovers in general. Maybe two book crossovers are the key and when you try to incorporate more books you dilute the story. Then again, Rotworld was two books.....

Also that gotg infinite rocket raccoon free issue was surprisingly great.

Definitely pick up the first Fatale trade by Brubaker for Image Comics. Then i'd say Waid's Daredevil, and Fraction's FF ( but not Fantastic Four...)

It's a damn shame that J.Francis Moore, Adam Pollina and Jim Cheung's X-Force run hasn't been collected. It was fresh, cool, sexy. It was like the early seasons of The Real World turned into a comic. Everything about it was hella 90s college roadtrip, they even went to the Marvel U version of Burning Man in issue 75. It needs to be collected yesterday, instead all we've got is the Nicieza/Liefeld era in hardcovers.

Ya. He wasn't important to upcoming Marvel Expanded Universe movies so they left him in the Cancerverse.

With Loeb off the main Nova book I can see them doing a rescue Nova Prime arc anywhere between in 8 months and a year in the GotG book and add them to their roster while continuing with kid Nova in the solo book.

I was specifically referencing the Mon El stories. He took over the Superman title during New Krypton. As a Legion fan, it was great. Mon El is a great character.
