Wait you guys aren't spending the weekend going through your Mad Men blu rays wthhhhh

Too busy buying Mad Men Olly Moss prints.

Seriously though, that inevitable Mad Men collection will be glorious. Loved that show, and now I feel like a chapter of my life is closed. That show started when I was 17 and now I'm 25.

Not to overshadow what shows like The Wire, Sopranos, Oz did for the medium..but Mad Men really kicked off this "golden age" of amazing shows on basic cable, and it's something that I'll watch forever.

guys...Star Wars Rebels is kind of awesome

almost done with season 1

Who cares about wack ass TV when Mad Max is out? Pure Cinema>TV any day of the week.

scust. mad men is as much the best show in years as mad max is for blockbusters.

they gotta make a mad men: fury road where don draper wanders the wasteland

speaking of that and comics i'm definitely getting the fury road comics miller is releasing on vertigo. this world is incredible. the most fleshed out and detailed universe(in 2 hours nonetheless) since lord of the rings.

Are the big driving sequences CGI? Or are they done with real vehicles?

Wow, I am impressed now.

Damn, I hope my buddy has time next weekend. I really need to see this movie :D
If not, I will go alone

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Bii's post about his awesome commissions made me bust out the only one that I ever got. I knew that Francis Manapul was going to be at SDCC, and I had just gotten into his and Johns Flash, so I was determined to get him to do a sketch for me. For over a month, I kept going back and forward trying to figure out who to get him to draw. I kept bouncing around between all my favorites: Iron Fist, Cyclops, Iron Man, Chase Stein, Old Lace, Ampersand, and back and forward again. If I'd read Young Avengers then, I'm sure Wiccan would have been in the mix too (I'm bad at picking favorites).

This kept up until I was literally in line to get the sketch, and when I got up to the front, he asked me who I wanted and my mind went blank and said the first two words that came to mind.

Indiana Jones. Don't regret it. Do regret standing there like a mute the entire time he drew. Couldn't think of anything to talk about. He seemed nice though.

That is super cool. Thanks for sharing!

I was never able to get into Mad Men. I tried twice because it seems right up my alley, but each time I got maybe 6 episodes in and absolutely nothing stuck.
And it's definitely not because it's slow moving or not action packed or something like that. I'm all about that kind of thing. Just nothing about Mad Men really stuck for me.
I'll probably try watching it again one day. Is it just one of those shows that starts out kind of meh but then really gets going?

I thought it's been amazing from beginning to end. I love the relationships.

I probably just need to give it another shot then. Everything about it seems like something I should enjoy.

I didn't fully appreciate it until I was 22-now. I think I just watched it when I was younger because it was the thing to do.

What? Silk is a total Mary Sue character.

I think the both of us said the same thing when she was in ASM, and her origin does still seem very Mary Sue-ish, but her solo series has made her pretty damn likable and tries to make her more human. I'm very impressed by it considering how skeptical I was of the character.

Right, so I've finished the second Complete Collection for Miller DD and I'm quite enjoying it. Really, really like his Bullseye, the one with Elektra also in it being the highlight of the run for me, at least thus far. The one thing I will say against it is that the issue touching on rape REALLY doesn't handle it well. Also, it's been a while since I've read Year One, but this is totally making sense to me as a kind of prototype for Miller eventually going and making Year One. In particular, Daredevil and Ben Urich was really reminding me of that Batman and Gordan feel.

But yeah, now waiting on the third Collection and Born Again, Man Without Fear, and Elektra: Assassin. Any particular order those last 3 should be read in, btw?

Has anyone else read Ten Grand? I finished volume 1 today and am not sure if i'll buy volume 2, which is the final volume apparently. Image needs an MU-like service, I'm not killing the industry fast enough by just buying trades, I could do so much more.

I just started reading Catwoman: When In Rome, and it's definitely an interesting book so far. I love that it's a Catwoman centric tale outside of Gotham, and the art is wonderful. Loeb's dialogue and personality for Selena is slightly forced and a bit corny, but I really do enjoy this take on the characters so far.

Edit: #2, page 16

Edit 2: Holy fuck this book is good.

Messi, I just want to say that you're on your way to being able to get me to buy an entire run with a simple suggestion. Jem is great and Sunstone is easily one of the best things I've read in a while (And may have involved me reading the entire thing so far in one go and then spending the rest of the day thinking about it *coughs*). The first Shutter trade is on the way and I'm sure it will also be good because if it's not I'll be crushed because I trusted you Messi, I trusted you!

I've started reading Saga. This is like Y The Last Man all over again, I can't put this book down. The designs are crazy in the best way possible. I have to admit I stared at the Sextellion pages for minutes. There was one guy who had a bottle up his ass. And this guy, wtf. I'm at #10 now, won't be long til I finish that fourth trade. Amazing book.

Vaughan is such an incredible writer, need to check out Runaways and Ex Machina at some point.

“I told you, guard duty with her is the fucking worst.”

Best line.

Another one falls to the girly hijinx plague. We can't sit back and watch comics-gaf embrace books about relationships and feelings. Sure, it seems innocent enough now, but what happens when girly hijinx gaf represents a larger part of comics-gaf? What will their demands be? No, this stops now. In June i will be making the OT. There will be no girly hijinx, no "fun", only books by people accused of sexual harassment and artists who trace porn.

speaking of writers "accused" of sexual harassment, i read and enjoyed a Scott Lobdell comic yesterday which i thought would never happen (it was Generation X #1 so part of it was Bachalo)

Glad you liked Sunstone. It's my favorite book and I think it is incredible. Are you Team Ally?

Sunstone is a true emotional roller-coaster. The final few pages of the newest arc were heartbreaking.

Runaways is great, and Ex Machina is pretty good. I can't remember it as much as Y or Runaways, but all his stuff is top tier.

At this point I'd jump for a $300 Ultimate Absolute Premiere Complete Sunstone Leather-bound Omnibus Deluxe Edition. Or two. And Team Ally is the only option.

Also Power Girl is done and done if everyone is suggesting it.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
i wish there was a way to read those old Jungle Action comics without finding the Masterworks HC

i kind of want to trade one of my Sandman Absolutes for it...

If you like Sejic his other work Death Vigil is just as charming and is about a bunch of friends who are monster hunters (kind of). Trade is out in July and he just uploaded the PDFs to his normal deviantart account.

Team Ally is the glue that holds all Sunstone fans together. To me she is the true heart of the book.

Maybe someday we will get a hardback sunstone but right now I wouldn't hold my breath. Sejic seems to be struggling to hold on to readers. Sadly.

Welcome to Hijinks club.

Can someone point me to some wiki's or comics because I've been out (of Marvel) since Civil War and honestly everything is just extremely confusing right now.

Oddly enough, I pre-ordered Death Vigil at pretty much the exact moment you were making your post and before I saw it. And yeah, while what sales information is available for Sunstone specifically isn't awful it also isn't exactly lighting up the bestseller lists and isn't getting much in the way of mainstream attention, even though it should be.

And thank you! I do believe I'll enjoy being a member.

Check out some random books that started with Marvel NOW. It's a big starting point for their current stuff and you can check out basically any hero and be good to go. They launched several books at the beginning of the year, like Ant-Man and Squirrel Girl, which are pretty great and also easy to just dive into.

Other than that, definitely give Hawkeye by Matt Fraction a shot. It gets lots of love for a good reason and it's easy to jump into. Daredevil by Mark Waid and Superior Foes of Spider-Man are also great books that are very newbie-friendly.

I'd mostly avoid big events just because a lot of them aren't very good in general.

Sunstone is easily his best seller. It was 1 and 2 on romance novels the second the went up. Death vigil has lost readers over the course of its run and Ravine was a horrendous failure. That said, you can't argue with the value of the death vigil trade. Look how many pages it has. It's issues 1-8.

It's when you create a new character in an established universe and that character overshadows all the others in every possible way. You read Silks bio and it's like "Has totally better reflexes, spider senses, and everything than Peter."

5 issues in and they gotta remind everyone of that fact. Unless this issue subverts the trope.
I always thought of a Mary Sue as a character whose only personality trait was "good at stuff." Since I don't feel Silk is that, I guess I don't see her as a Mary Sue

It doesn't help that Death Vigil has been very inconsistent with releases. Did we even get one last month?
