VERTIGO AND DC'S YOUNG ANIMAL ANNOUNCE COMPELLING NEW SERIES AT NYCC

The Vertigo/DC's Young Animal panel at New York Comic Con today brought exciting news for each of the imprints. Mark Doyle, Executive Editor overseeing these lines, spoke with some of the incredible talent behind current series and introduced new creators to the fans.

Vertigo writers John Ridley (THE AMERICAN WAY: THOSE ABOVE AND THOSE BELOW) and Tim Seeley (IMAGINARY FIENDS) shared new details about their series, while creative teams Si Spurrier & Rachael Stott and Joshua Williamson & Riley Rossmo announced their projects being released this winter.

MOTHERLANDS, from writer Si Spurrier (SUICIDE SQUAD, The Spire) and artist Rachael Stott (Sex Criminals, Star Trek/Planet of the Apes), is a sci-fi series set in a future where universe-hopping bounty hunters are the new celebrities. A spotlight-shunning hunter named Tab finds herself in a race for her greatest prize yet, but to ID her target she'll have to work with her fiercest rival and the most famous bounty hunter of all time—her mother. The six-issue series launches January 31.

DEATHBED, from writer Joshua Williamson (THE FLASH, FROSTBITE) and artist Riley Rossmo (BATMAN/THE SHADOW, CONSTANTINE: THE HELLBLAZER), follows a former adventurer turned recluse who has re-emerged 20 years later. When reporter Valentine Richards is hired to get his story, she soon finds herself in an insane world of violence and supernatural adventure. The six-issue series begins February 21.

Plus, the weird and popular DC's Young Animal imprint, curated by My Chemical Romance's frontman Gerard Way, continues to expand its list of titles and announced the remaining DC/DC's Young Animal crossover issues. DOOM PATROL artist Nick Derington discussed his work on the series, with writer Steve Orlando sharing more details for the first issue of ”Milk Wars," and new series writer Magdalene Visaggio giving an early look at her upcoming project:

”Milk Wars" will mash up DC's Young Animal with characters from the DC Universe, beginning with a JUSTICE LEAGUE/DOOM PATROL SPECIAL from Orlando and Way, followed by SHADE, THE CHANGING GIRL/WONDER WOMAN SPECIAL, MOTHER PANIC/BATMAN SPECIAL, CAVE CARSON/SWAMP THING SPECIAL and DOOM PATROL/JUSTICE LEAGUE SPECIAL. The weekly crossover adventure begins January 31.

ETERNITY GIRL, the new miniseries from Eisner and GLAAD-nominated writer Magdalene Visaggio (Kim & Kim) and Eisner award-winning artist Sonny Liew (The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye) follows Urania Blackwell, a former CIA agent who can't die. Her only solution? Destroy the universe first. This six-issues series launches March 2018 from DC's Young Animal.

Hyped for more Young Animal stuff, the inprint's output has been great so far. "Milk Wars" as a name for the crossover is weirdly on point.

Link? Agent of Atlas are partly in Ant-Man 2 I think so it's all MCU pretty much if so.

Why not this?

I have no clue how you get through the Secret Empire backlash and go, "Yeah, this sounds like a good idea."

Because they have no idea why Secret Empire failed because they're completely incapable of listening.

It was a completely pointless filler arc.

What does this even mean in a book without a singular overarching meta-plot? Filler for what?

I literally disliked the entire issue

The ending was nice but the world and his wife spoiled it beforehand, so...

Huh, I loved it. Riddler's motivation for actually doing all this was a fun touch, and Batman's secret being what it was seems like one of the very few ways it could've played out believably.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?

I dunno just didn’t like him

Two new Dark Matter/New Ages of Heroes books announced.
THE UNEXPECTED from Steve Orlando, [No other information provided]

"It's a team of enemies that hate each other only slightly less than the world around them. It's DARK TOWER meets SEVEN SAMURAI."

"They get a chance to right the wrongs in their lives."
DARK KNIGHTS RISING - THE WILD HUNT w/ Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Josh Williamson, Doug Mahnke, and Ivan Reis on 7 FEB.

Snyder then spoke about a number of elements that they were not able to get to in METAL and bring it out in this series. They have characters like Cyborg and Detective Chimp who are chased all across the Dark Multiverse by the Dark Knights.

So I'm finally all caught up on Teen Titans, Titans, and Deathstroke. Deathstroke is interesting with every issue, because there's always information that's unknown—new mysteries to uncover. I'm pretty confused about what's going on with the Hmong gangs and the grocer. Teen Titans and Titans are serviceable. I like the direction that Titans is going. I'm unsure about what to expect about Teen Titans. I'd like to have Damian take a role outside of leadership.

Based on comments by Ryan Higgins and Big Bang It would seem as though Marvel provided "good news" regarding variant cover complaints.

DC is launching a ton of stuff without anything really ending. I wonder when we'll start seeing some of the current stuff end.

Brimstone by Justin Jordan and Phillip Tan (Dark Matter/New Age of Heroes)

Grant Morrison is on #7-#10 of Sideways. Seven Soldier of Victory will also appear in the title.

Brimstone looks awesome! Im really liking these new books accept for maybe 1 or 2. Sideways looks really cool but not sure how I feel about Didio on writting duties lol.

Link doesnt seem to be working for me atm.

Picked up the new XO trade and Battle Chasers during the CMX sale.

Lego Marvel 2 hinted the X Man? Who is that?

Runaways, Champions, Cloak and Dagger, movies, Agents of Atlas part of the season pass.

X-Man like in Franklins Richards or X-Men with a typo?

Guys, guys, I saw a Fantastic Four toy in the figures thread. I somehow felt into the timestream where Ike is not insane.

Was anything announced at the Marvel House of Ideas panel lol? Newsarma's live feed doesnt show everything atm.

Also when is the X-Men panel tonight?

YA/Vertigo announcements are dope
Legion will be written by Peter Milligan with art by Wilfredo Torres, while Rogue & Gambit will be written by Kelly Thompson with art by Pere Perez and covers by Kris Anka.
R&G sounds good but I prefer comics publishers that don't partner up with war profiteers!

Ads are nothing new, but there's a difference between when they're paid for by cakes and when they're paid for by blood money.

No shit. Actively doing straight up recruitment for them, for me, is a bit much

Yeah, it's fucked up. Sadly, this is the world we live in now.

I'm seeing this as the straw breaking moment for some. I can't see people speaking out and keeping a job because Ike is petty as fuck.

Kieran Shiach already announced he's boycotting Marvel till the deal is gone.
