Bleeding Cool has more on the Marvel retailer meeting at NYCC, and it's the least surprising thing ever

But he kept going with his objections and soon he was bringing up the fact that Marvel now had female versions of characters instead of the males, with echoing shouts from the crowd of retailers about not changing all the characters all at once – which is something I have also hear Marvel executives echo. But things were getting tense.

Two older retailers started raising their voices arguing about diversity and how it does not work. The words “black”, “homo” and “freaking females” were used multiple times, at which point other retailers started to boo those retailers and the room started to turn on itself. Marvel editor Nick Lowe tried to get calm by saying that Marvel try and they tell stories for everyone, that the old heroes are not going anywhere, neither are the new ones, there is room for them both.

Looks like Marvel had absolutely nothing to show for their "Next Big Thing" panel. Aside from Weapon H, the lamest book no one wanted, their next big thing was a bunch of nothing. Guardians seems to be like the only book worth a damn to them, along side Squirel Girl. What a bummer. Guess I really shouldn't have expected much.

DC is killing it lately, I've haven't been this excited for DC in like 10 years.

If Marvel was hoping to bring back long time readers they are in trouble. I'm glad retailers are finally openly telling Marvel how it is. I might not agree with the Iceman comment and Jane Thor, but I completely agree with the sentiment. I mean if you had just gone and seen the latest Marvel movie and were interested in reading the comics, you would be so disappointed with the current line up.

It's sad how people in the comments of the Newsarama article are defending the retailers who made those comments.

All of the other parts of the line have their own individual panels. I wouldn't expect anything other than stuff coming in early Spring at the latest though.

BTW, saw it was free on Comixology Unlimited, how's Wonton Soup by Stokoe?

i loaned the first volume of this out from the library a few years ago and the only thing i remember thinking was "i wish this were in colour" but it's probably worth checking out if it's free

I never read that but i imagine Stokoe's art loses a lot without his colors
How much do commissions cost? I think I might get one done for my daughter next year for her birthday of Squirrel Girl.
I think she's in the 150-200 range for full ones like that

Best thing about comic conventions is the CMX sales! Time to stock up on some of my wishlist items!

What are some of the good newer valiant titles. I’ve fallen behind on their more recent titles

I had to google "Jason Aaron marvel event" to remember the name of Original Sin, which might have been the start to me just giving up on Marvel. A dumb event that involves a Thor Whisper that brings life to Jane Thor that carries this dumb whisper thing on her back like a penalty for existing. Who is the new thor, what did Fury say, where is real thor, will he be thor again? I didn't dislike the book because they had Jane as Thor, i disliked it because i thought the storytelling was trash. Just like the Siren Event by Remender before he left just like every Bendis event where Cap decides to stand or the next Civil War, these books are trash and Marvel plans out their line around this trash. Marvel books orbit a trash sun and have for years and occasionally trash doesn't fall on people's heads like Secret Wars but there are way too many pointless tie-ins to notice and then Hickman leaves.

So yes, there are still good books being put out by Marvel and i'm sure i'll resub one day to MU to bulk read some of them and i bought a couple things during the last Amazon kindle Marvel sale and also gwenpool is great before i dropped the flop buttttttttttttttt no, i'm not playing this Marvel game anymore. They and the controversy around them is a Cho Outrage cover come to life and even when i was only buying a few of the non-continuity-ish titles it always seemed like i was right there trying to shield my eyes from the trash sun as to not go blind.

but but but diversity.

Marvel has good books, but most of them are unconnected to the main narrative. They're not books like Legacy, they're books like Gwenpool and Jessica Jones.

No Staples doesn't do commissions anymore.

Btw you get great value with Erica. She's lovely and this is her first price hike in years. Her price went up 50$

Well, it looks better than most of her art for sure, but two hundo for that is still pretty lol.

Artists price their art at what customers pay. Erica is actually right in line with the market rate tbh. You'd get a squirrel Girl page for the same money.

Jim Lee sold a splash today for 6k.

Yeah but people aren't saying Marvel doesn't have any good books out. The problem is their mainline staple books are not good and are filled with unrecognizable characters to the average Joe. When your Avengers, Cap and Iron Man books are bad you have a problem, plus all 3 have the main character swapped/replaced with the new "diverse" hero.

Replacing your main characters does not always mean it will breathe new life into the character. Most of the time just bringing in a new writer with an interesting story to tell will work way more. Just look at Brubaker on Cap with the Winter Soldier arc, then Remender with the escape from Dimension z.

If the core is strong people will check out the other stuff.

So I got a slurpee and they were all out of cherry

I got Mountain Dew flavored.

I can't wait to get my hands on that Spidey Mark Brooks figure.

Retailers complaining about diversity crack me up. Like oh they had a customer walks in after seeing Winter Soldier and they leave because Sam Wilson is Cap? uh sell them the Brubaker run you dumb fucks

Typical neckbeards, blaming women and minorities for their incompetence
And that's why I love the store I go to. They do exactly that. "The current comic isn't like that, but there are some past runs we can recommend."
Nerds are the worst.

Espescially since the stores are flodded with appropiated reprints and trades everytime a movie hits... I dont get it either...

This is one of the various reasons why people prefer to order comics online.
