Command & Conquer 3 Demo IS HERE

The game is really, really, really fast, with little econning, just lots of building units really fast and fighting. Lots of buildings around for you to bunker infantry in to get a bit of an advantage between bases. Infantry builds in squadrons, everything else singular. Everything builds so fast that there's never a dull moment. It's all action, all the time.

I'm both impressed with the polish and impressed with the mindless (in a good way) action.

Sounds like they really hit the mark with this one, which jives with everything I've been hearing about the game for the past couple of months. C&C should be fast, blow stuff up fast, and base/resource micro should be kept to a minimum.

Can't wait to play the demo myself.

should be done by the time i get home tonight. sounds like it's going to be fun. as long as ea sticks to c&c's roots it should be good. none of that economic trash smash. building a refinery should be the most economic wankity wank i should have to deal with.

They f*cking *NAILED* it. Homerun, out of the park across the street and through my window.

Holy shiiiit, this is so C&C it hurts, hurts so good. Plays more on the Red Alert 2 side then Tiberium Sun side (thank god for that) and is just a ton of fast paced super awesome fun. Looks great, runs great on my modest rig and just... wow.

Rolling over that giant Nod base with a swarm of Mammoth tanks while my Orcas scream overhead raining death and destruction was giving me that warm tingly feeling again.

With this and Supcom, as well as some other games, do I finally need to upgrade my PC after all these years (2002 was the last time I did it).

Now or in the next two or three months. Core 2 Duo, Vista, DirectX 10 video cards, and falling RAM prices make upgrading more attractive now than in the last year, IMO. You can always wait for ATi to reveal their DX10 parts but you're naive to think it'll affect the cost of the nVidia cards except at the very top-end at first.

Wow. I hate RTS games. The only "recent" ones I have enjoyed in the least are Rise of Nations, Company of Heroes and Red Alert 2.

If what you say is true, I'm going to be very happy.

For anyone who has played the demo, is this a good C&C to start with. I haven't played any C&C before but I have played plenty of other RTS games.

Yes. Go to wikipedia or C&C Planet after you're done with the demo to catch up on the storyline to date.

wow 2 new games to buy. :( well at least the 1500 i shelled for my rig seems like a more plausible investement now that i have post 1998/2002 games to play.

To the guy who never played a C&C get last decade its only 29 or 39 and you get like 10 games.

Yeah but only one (RA2) is really worth playing at this point outside of nostalgia purposes. Oh, and the freaking zepplins.

Just play C&C3 and read the backstory online to catch up.

Oh wow I am looking at the wiki page and OMG at the amount of story, seems very interesting!

I downloaded this with EA link

Is there any way to move the download to a different computer? I only have my laptop here and when I go back to school there is no way I can download 1.18 gigs for a demo lol

n/m, found it

Don't freak out when you install it. The installer eats 1.5gb of ram more or less and it will take a long time before anything happens.

It is performing far better than I thought. I assumed that my x1900xt would have a bit too much thrown at it but so far I have everything maxed at 1680x1050 w 2xFSAA and I haven't dropped below the FPS lock.

Also: big, cuddley puppy dog love to whomever made the quiting screen/ad friendly and not of the takeover variety.

My faith in them not completely ****ing up any Red Alert 3 is slightly boosted by the competency of this demo, but I can't truly judge it until I see how good the online play is.

Why is everyone so desperate for a 360 version? Did nobody play the awful console versions of westwood games in the past?

The game is awesome, I can run it ultra high on almost everything. Looks like they went back to the sage engine for this game but it's really pretty, some cool effects like the heat waves from the shots of those laser shooting infantry. Like someone said above, the game is really quick too, a nice change of pace from LOTR:BFME, Generals, the Total War games and Supreme Commander. Best of all though, it's classic C&C!

Skirmish AI is pretty damn nasty. I tried a 1 on 1 with a "medium" AI, which is one step above the weakest and 2 below the hardest and I got absolutely schooled. About 2 minutes he started hitting any part of my base that wasn't defended. When I finally got a good turret ring going, in comes the airpower and starts raping my harvesters. When I finally got that covered he started swarming in these cloaked suicide bombers which tore apart my ground defenses. Then in a final coup de grace, he nuked me and ended it.

I definitely had some newbie syndrome going on not knowing what all the units did, but that aside the AI displayed some suprising tactical AI throughout the match and I suspect the highest settings will give even the hardcore a good run for it.

Man, this demo runs goooood. Loads maps in about 6 seconds on my old PC too (fast HDD's though)

One thing that annoyed my was my VGA card artifacting all over the place haha, and me remembering why I never played C&C. Sidebar is annoying as ****!! Took me a while to find those silos, ION cannon was even worse, although GREAT effects. And the construction arm was even worse than that, as now you have all those tabs in ANOTHER tab :S

I hope there's another way for the interface to roll out...

Are the system requirements more lenient than Supcom? I was a huge TA fan back in the day, but I haven't even bothered touching the Supcom demo since with my fairly new 7600GT card I got last July the benchmarks say I'd get like 10fps on high at 1280x1080. :(

Not planning on buying a new card for at least 2-3 more years, as I only upgrade once every 5 years, but I was under the impression my 7600GT should last me until the start of the DX10 generation...but it seems like that was a lie :(

Man, the only games I've even played since I got my new card were Quake 4 (60fps) and HL2 Ep1 (60fps) and the Sam & Max eps. I really don't feel like I've gotten the $180-worth that my card cost me :(

It's based on the Battle for Middle Earth engine. I was able to run that game maxed out on my 7600, so I'd assume you can run this game pretty well.

Yay!

Will download the demo tonight then :)

Holy crap. I know it's cool to hate on EA and all, but they really hit one out of the park here. This is as good as any other C&C I've ever played. If it maintains this level of quality in the full game, the series has hit a new high point.

you guys are making me very eager to play this game : D as a big c&c fan this is excellent stuff to hear, i've been waiting for a real c&c game for YEARS.

All this talk is getting me excited to play the demo!

Glad to hear it plays like Red Alert 2, which was my favorite in the series!

I didn't want to upgrade my PC till fall, but I may have to make the push earlier! I <3 my X360, but there is no way I'm playing C&C3 on it!

I hope not ! It would suck...

This is straight from gamespot.

This demo includes a tutorial, two different missions as the Global Defense Initiative, and a one-versus-one skirmish map as GDI against a CPU-controlled Brotherhood of Nod army. All units from both factions are available.
