Command & Conquer 3 Demo IS HERE

I can't believe it but EA might actually have C&C3 on their hands. I have had an awesome grin on my face for the last hour.

I didn't check before I went to work, does the demo have multiplayer (LAN or otherwise)?

I'm having a LAN in a couple weeks and I need to know if we'll have to postpone it until after C&C 3 is released.

Great demo. Game really nails the whole C&C feel imo. Nice and fast-paced action. Can't wait to get the full version and check out the no doubt awesome story.

And it runs great on my laptop, unlike that other RTS (SupCom ahum). :lol

Use the words "cool" and "Tiberian Sun" again and we will have issues you friend. Pistols at dawn issues if you catch my drift. Never mention that shitpile abomination of a game again.

The unit variety was the only cool thing about Tiberian Sun, so I'm scratching my head why that didn't carry over to C&C3.

the demo was great, i'm really looking forward to the full game now.
anyone else found the acting a bit funny though? still a good thing they put that back in anyways :).

didn't run too good on my system.
Mostly medium settings at 1280X1024.
dipped to 24fps here and there and there weren't that many units on screen, or much going on.
:(

Has anyone been running this on a Macbook Pro with 1gig ram under bootcamp, would really like to try the demo but don't fancy the 1.2gig download if it will run like ass.

Thanks
It won't run like ass. It went well on my C2D MBP with 2GB. You won't be able to play it on full-blast eye annihilation settings but it will still look good and run fine.

Athlon 1400
512MB ram
Radeon 128mb 9800pro

will this run it okay?
Probably be chuggy with so little RAM, but I'm inclined to think that otherwise you'd be able to run it with low settings. I just upgraded from my own 1600+ to a 2800+, and I have a 9800XT and 1GB of RAM, and it was very nicely playable. Worth a shot.

First I thought EA is gonna screwing up this one - but I am pleasently surprised - The old C&C feeling from Red Alert 1 is there!!!

Would someone please create an official C&C 3 thread?

I would but I don't have all the info on the game at my disposal / am not good at photoshopping the title banner

I just preordered this game on my lunch break, can't wait!

I'm going to have to play a little more tonight (only had a few minutes to check it out last night), but I found it pretty lacking after playing Supreme Commander all week. The main thing is I feel like I can't really see what's going on because the camera is zoomed in so close. And moving the camera around is just a pain in general. I love just zooming out and back in on what I want to see in Supcom. Going back to the traditional RTS minimap setup feels archaic after getting used to this:

I actually had this going to the point where they wanted me to wait in line for 70 minutes to download at 150kbs. Then I remembered File Front would drop it on my without registering or waiting and at 700kbs. Seriously, I know ZD owns it, but why would you use anything else?

BIG thumbs up to FileFront, it's the most reliably fast/complete gaming file archive site running that isn't a huge hassle/PITA to deal with. the C&C demo wasn't available yesterday when I was looking for the file, so I did the next best thing-found a decent Euro mirror and got the file that way. I often times get the fastest download rates on new stuff from overseas mirrors because US people don't use them and they sometimes have colossal tubes.

But yeah, FileFront is the bomb. All the files and speed of the pay services, and none of the registration/subscriber/log in crap.

Hey guys,

I've got a pentium 2.8Ghz dual core, 1Gb of ram, and a ATI X600 256Mb graphics card.

I guess I should update my graphics card to be able to play various rts games on better settings..

What would you guys recommend I upgrade to to be able to play CoH on high settings, CnC3 on high settings and SupCom on.. I dunno, medium settings. I'd like to spend $200 max..

a gig of ram. i can't say anything about that video card without looking up any specs, but the ram is what would hold you down in a game like supcom.

the setup looks fine for something like c&c though, you should be able to get high settings on c&c with that rig.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

Now for complaints:

No way to see how filled each silo is.
No way to tell when you're going to need silos.
Refinery = 5000 storage space.
Silo = 2000 storage space.

Trick - Reaching your cap (5000*refineries + 2000*silos)?
Build expensive structures, then cancel them when they're done.
Building them takes tiberium, cancelling them gives cash.
(When you cancel, you get th emoney back, and your tiberium stores have more room, ala classic C&C).

Now, if you have cash and tiberium, which is used first? (I have yet to experiment).

And, will stealing a silo (enineer) give you what's currently in that silo?

Nitpicky, yes, but silo stealing/planning can be very influential in the game.
That's issue #1, more to follow.

Youre saying I need another Gig of ram for 2 gigs? maybe you misread but I already have a gig.

I currently have to play all three rts games I mentioned on relatively low settings in order to keep things smooth. I think its my graphics card that's the problem..

I loved C&C (like every one else here)
Tiberian Sun was ok...not great but ok
Red Alert 1 and 2 were great for what they were...
Hated Generals.

This demo cant be that good...its EA! They been dropping the ball outside of Fight Night and that new Def Jam!

Yall serious? This plays like the original C&C? <_< >_>

oh man, what an intense skirmish. the map always turns into a building garrison fest in the middle for me at the beginning, so i just load up to the middle with 2 regular and 1 missle in as many buildings as possible until they come.

this time i thought they might have me, they knocked out the center building and one other of my buildings, and they must have had 20 buggies in there, i kid you not. they were also assaulting my secondary base to the north at the other tiberium field.

i dropped a load of those ion troops or whatever they were with the nice ass laser cannon guns up there and they took care of it [barely] and in the center they were JUST about to knock out my last two garrisoned buildings when my 5 mammoths rolled up. those things are practically UNSTOPPABLE.

they wiped out the nod buggies, i loaded up two more buildings and started picking off their buildings one by one. then i rolled my mammoths towards their base, set my artillery up near the edge of the middle towards their side and just pelted the hell out of them. as my mammoths rolled up, on the left i dropped the ion troops and to the right a regular load of 2x infantry and 2x missle. i had 5 regular infantry in the rear rolling in as support and i bombarded the back of their base with that wierd space cannon thing [not the ion cannon].

it was so awesome.

yeah, it plays as good as i hoped it would. i came in with big doubts too, i don't like ea, hated generals, hard core c&c fan since the first game came out and i camped over my computer for hours playing the custom fan made maps. this game plays awesome. yeah, it's a demo, but it's a damn fine demo. it's going to awesome in multiplayer.

oh no doubt, i think the gpu is probably gonna hold you back, but you've got a good processor and a CAPABLE gpu, if you want to play supcom on pretty high settings, you'll want at least another 512 of ram [usually about 60 - 80 bucks]. 1 gig is quickly becoming the bare minimum, especially with supcom.

WOW. Who made this game, what did they do with the real Electronic Arts, and why didn't they do it sooner?

It looks GREAT
It runs GREAT
It plays GREAT

I am shocked and delighted. I was sure EA was going to cock this one up. SURE of it. But Command and Conquer 3 is the tits and I am going to throw my money at EA the day it comes out.

Apparently if you go into skirmish, if you select the list of races to play as, and press N and left mouse button at the same time, it will select Nod as a playable faction.

Can anyone who has the demo on hand confirm or deny this?

I have nothing to base this on but my 'feeling' but I'm pretty sure it will be entirely playable.

I just tried it - IT WORKS!

Yep, it works, you can also select GDI as your opponent by doing the same thing but pressing "G" instead. I also tried selecting Scrin and it selects but there are no Scrin units in the game so it automatically defeats you.

You stole my orange.

Awesome freaking game, by the way. Not a RTS fan in the least, but this game is fun.

Shame I suck at it.

Any tips/advice for a newbish RTS player?

Ok, after playing this and pretty much deciding to buy the game, I'm wondering where I can catch up with the Tiberium wars C&C universe... besides reading a history of it on wikipedia.

Is there anywhere on the internet that I can watch the cinema scenes from the C&C games, similar to how that one site has all the scenes from Halo 2? I'd sort of like to know what happened to GDI in Tiberium Sun, and get re-acquainted with Kane.

memorize a build order then execute it as fast as you humanly can

Mmmm Cameron from House.

...oh, and the game is good too.
I have been on a total media blackout for C&C3, watching the intro my jaw must have dropped about 10 times with all of the acting talent in the game.

I'm really impressed that the game runs pretty awesomely on my ageing PC. Though the shadow resolution leaves something to be desired even at ultra high. Anyway, I think I'm totally buying this.

The same thing happens with the CPU AI, you can select the grayed out personalities.

you can but the only things that work are
Human GDI vs. CPU GDI
Human Nod vs. CPU Nod
Human GDI vs. CPU Nod
Human Nod vs. CPU GDI

any use of the Scrin either on the human or CPU side will result in an instant victory/defeat because they haven't loaded any assets for them

You can also select what kind of CPU personality (rusher, turtle, etc) you want, but I'm not sure if it works (the one time I tried it, it gave me an instant victory)

Remember that you can assign groups of units to the number keys. Just select the units you want to group, and press CTRL + [1-9]. Now whenever you need those units again, just press the corresponding number key and boom, they're automatically selected.
Grouping say all orcas on a key is great for quick offences (or defences if you are caught off guard :D)

Also, doubleclicking on a single unit will select all same units in the area. Great for tanks and stuff if you need to concentrate fire on single enemies.

Best C&C game since Red Alert.

Heck, I can't believe I said that. Runs like butter. Looks pretty. Feels tight. It's fast. If the demo is only a tease of the final game, my, oh my...

yes I was impressed with how it ran on my old 6800nu, everything on high(no AA of course) it was smooth and more then playable. :D

I was worried that it wouldn't be able to play on my machine, as I have relatively low spec hardware compared to current standards, but after reading some of these posts I'll definetly have to give the download a go later. I can't wait now!

Simply didn´t get around (yet) to buy a new gaming rig. The old one is simply too week...
