Command & Conquer 3 Demo IS HERE

wtf are those bunker things dotted around your base?

You can make each group of riflemen dig in and create a bunker, it just helps a bit more for defense over having them stand around. Each of those bunkers is one group of riflemen.

Loving the demo, pre-ordered the full game.

However, I'm having a weird problem. If I play on default graphics settings (except setting my resolution to my native 1680x1050) everything is fine and smooth as silk. However, if I bump anything up just a little, the game seems to go into slow motion, at least for units.

For instance, I set the AA from off to level 1 (which I assume is x2) and that's it. Suddenly, my units are moving like they are walking through molasses. Scrolling around the map is as smooth as ever, though. Setting the AA back to default and everything's fine again. Am I just hitting a framerate issue or what? Seems kinda weird that instead of everything slowing down or getting jerky it just makes the unit move in slow-mo.

Anyone else see this?

just turn AA off? I'm playing without it and I'm not seeing any jaggies at all.

I noticed that to with my 6800GS, but on my system its the shadows that are causing the problems haven't tried the AA though... I really need to get the 320mb 8800GTS :) .

Sounds like you're your own worst enemy. Check the specs of the demo before you download? Just a suggestion.

The most I could find -- in EA's own FAQ no less -- was speculation as to what the specs might be, and I seemed to meet those. Nothing told me concretely, so I gave it a shot in the hopes it would work. It didn't. =(

I can't imagine you have a gaming PC that can't run this at ALL. Maybe check the requirements first?

My laptop isn't exactly new, but I actually meet all the minimum requirements EXCEPT the video card. I'm so close, yet so far away.

I installed the demo and ran it but when I started the tutorial it caused some kind of serious error and I had to restart. Anyone else have this problem. I just uninstalled and I'm going to try reinstalling.

Hard is easy.

As GDI, against NOD

I typically build

Refinery + surveyor, power plant, barracks, power plant, power plant.
The surveyor heads straight for one of the other corners and deploys when it gets there.
As soon as I have my barracks up I crank out 2 engineers for the 2 spikes, and I begin cranking out cannons to put along the edge of my base.

I spread my power plants out to reach the spikes, and cover each of them with a single machine gun tower. (Or whatever they're called).

By now, a few runners have tried to get into the base and have been dealt with by my cannons. I make a crane, and then work on a refinery and more power for my second base.

Only after that do I go for a war factory.

When I do, I get 2 extra harvesters, and then some supporting predators to spread across my base.

Then I can usually hold my own by bolstering my defenses and adding power plants as needed, until I get a tech center up.

Afetr that, I have fun.

Try building like, 20 juggernauts, and grouping them into 4 teams of 5.
Then, deploy some snipers and rape any structure you want with the juggernauts' special ability.

I've gotten the hard enemy under control pretty much. I rarely lose against it, and most of the time I can slack off and have fun.

I'm currently working on figuring out a build order for brutal.

LOL @ anyone who's going to play this on the 360 with controller! :lol

It was announced that this is going to be another showcase of the "Live Anywhere" infrastructure, that will have PC users playing against Console users. To prove that RTS is just as good on a console as it is on a PC.

j/k

This demo inspired me to reinstall RA2 (which is a bit of a bitch in XP if you don't have the C&C Decade pack) and man alive, that game still owns my ass. I can't believe how well it holds up 7 years after the fact.

Ok that last sentence just made me feel really old.

Thanks to this demo, you have my permission to start working on Red Alert 3 but with one condition: Bring back Frank Klepacki.

I'm so old that I was dumb enough to enjoy Tiberium Sun when it came out :(

I was sooo bloody hyped for that game, all the crazy awesome features they promised that never ended up in the game. Definitely one of my earlier game disappointments.

I'm very late to the party. I love the demo. Very much so. It's a return to form for C&C that's long overdue.

Demo question... medium difficulty better not be this hard in the retail version. I get my ass spanked all over the place. I get agressive, I die. I work on defense. I die. I work on multiple tiberium fields, with a joint defensive line, with Max tech, and upgrades, and push slowly into the NOD areas. I die.

I will not reduce the default difficulty out of pride. :D

Total Anni-- er.. Supreme Commander is CAKE compared to this.

I'll probably get the 360 version due to these reasons

PC vs 360
2.1 vs 7.1
19" vs 32"
wood chair vs sofa
30 fps vs 30 fps

And the LOTR demo on 360 didn't control too poorly :p

"Total Anni-- er.. Supreme Commander is CAKE compared to this."

That's more of a problem with SC's AI than the game itself. Versus a human player the (big) differences in complexities between the two games show up around minute 3.

"And the LOTR demo on 360 didn't control too poorly :p"

Was LOTR as fast as C&C3?

Does it really matter, everyone you play against will be using the pad, so I don't think it'd be a big deal.

Still like all RTS games, M/K is the optimal way to play.

"Does it really matter, everyone you play against will be using the pad, so I don't think it'd be a big deal."

Just like console FPSs, everyone you'll be playing against will also be using a pad, but they're also at a speed that even playing with a pad is manageable with. With everything in C&C3 always running at 100mph, stumbling around with a pad seems like it'd be less optimal than using a pad in BFME2.

Okay. Has anyone won a skirmish mode on medium? I'm feeling inept here.

I just tried out Nod... built two avatar warmechs, had them each eat a beam cannon tank thinger to get a second laser, and then they took out all the enemy units and structures of the medium AI opponent without taking more than 5% damage. Dunno, maybe try them out ;b

I got beat around a bit my first few tries at Medium, but now I'm cruising through Hard. Stick with it.

Also Avatar Warmechs.

ive rly tried this 10 times or so, i was rushed down by the endless attacks all the time. this asshat KI never stops attacking and builds on its base even then :/

The games AI is VERY aggressive. I feel really messed up because I usually can figure out the patterns and find the holes, but this version has me stumped. I rushed in with low tech rifflemen and rocket guys... and that actually worked the best. Get the corner tiberium areas, cut off their supply.

Still, it's hard as shit.

Mammoth tanks reign supreme.

They really do. They're such powerful meaty bastards, especially after you've upgraded to railguns. They can also take out enemy fliers in a sufficiently large group (5+)

An avatar goes down easily against a railgun equipped mammoth tank.

They're very awesome. They are also very slow and their path discover/enemy detection really sucks. I had some fliers attacking my upper left Tiberium field, and sat prone and unwilling to attack. I had to guide them around buildings just to get them in range.

I can't even beat it on easy! :lol

In my defense, I'm still learning the ropes. I haven't played a C&C game in a long time and I'm accustomed to the Dawn of War and Company of Heroes games so... well it's a good excuse for my shite skills.

I really am enjoying the demo, so much that I'll probably end up buying this game. Too bad it's an EA game.

The demo brought back the original Command and Conquer vibe, I really enjoyed it.

it wasn't bad but after playing the PC demo I couldn't imagine controlling all that action with a gamepad, it's a different game than LOTR i'll just put it that way.

RA2 has trouble on XP? Argh, I really need to get that decade pack and count me in as one of the fools that played TS too. Tho being a big C&C fan I admit being a bit apolegetic about it. I could swear Firestorm made it a bit more balanced/playable however.

It'll work (I got mine going) it's just a bit of a pain.
