Computer Sound Problem

Anyone have an idea why the sound on this computer would be clicking? I think it must have something to do with the hard drive, as it only clicks when the hard drive reads (the led lights up).

did it recently start to happen? Is it slowing your computer down in some way? You can also look at the "desktop themes" to see if you have a "default sound" for activity

yeah, the computer was going real slow until I ran spybot and adaware and cleaned things up some. So far the only thing I can corrolate with the sound clicking is hard drive activity. it just seems real bizzare and is annoying. Say I'm on quicktime.com watching trailers. I can't watch the trailer while it downloads or it does the clicking and the sound'll become off some. I have to wait until it's done downloading to watch it.

that didn't seem to be it. i checked to see if the HDwas in DMA and it wasn't. i noticed the sound skipping even more when i'm messing around in the options like that.

Are you using onboard sound? If so, have you tried updating the drivers? Failing that, you could try putting a sound card in (it doesn't have to be anything special, even a standard SB PCI would do) and that should clear it up. If you're already using a separate sound card and you're hearing this, there's definitely a fault somewhere.

Thanks for the help. I couldn't figure it out, but it was a laptop and it wasn't mine, but my sisters, so I'll let her deal with it. I think it had to do with the HD not being in DMA mode, which I couldn't figure out how to get it to go into... rather wierd.
