Since this is Batman in his second year of crime fighting, they've gone for the ugly and clunky look which is a huge departure from previous films. Either there's no Lucius Fox to help him or they are fully embracing a very grounded approach.

Nolan had the right idea. It just looks silly.

Then again, I'm the person that thinks the whole over-the-top bat motif looks incredibly dumb, again, outside of fantasy.
