People are judging the quality of the jury simply by comparing their decision to their own preconception. That's ridiculous. The jury is tasked with applying the law as it is written and judging the case that was presented to them. If someone has an issue with the verdict, they need to at least explain why. Why does the evidence as presented in court not lead to the verdict they reached on a specific count given the law as it is written(not as one wishes it was written).
These responses about how the jury was stupid, corrupt and/or not doing their jobs based solely on the fact they reached a decision that some don't share is silly.

My overwhelming reaction is that if this is upheld after appeal it has massive consequences for other phone manufacturers and the jury outright failed to recognise important pieces of prior art...
This could stifle creativity in the mobile phone OS market. Had Xerox been this ruthless in the courts during the 80s, Apple fanboys wouldn't have their macs and silly black rectangular status symbols that they have today. Hell, even Microsoft would have struggled to make waves.
Consumers aren't stupid, they knew even the obviously similar Samsung handsets weren't iPhones and they know the difference between android and IOS... No consumer wants to see competition in the court room resulting in fewer choices and variation, they want competition in hardware, in software and features, and in price - and these legal wranglings, aimed squarely at taking strong competitors out run entirely counter to that.

Far as I know harassing someone in PM would probably be a bannable offense. If you can't personally insult people, why would doing so in a PM be okay?

Well... now they have to maintain it. The iPhone 5 is on the horizon and people will watch what Apple's competition does like a hawk. Samsung tried to make themselves seem as if they were legit competitors and now Apple has proven they just copied their ideas. If anything this is a huge win for Samsung's competition like HTC, LG, and especially Nokia now that Samsung is officially stamped as a company that make iPhone knockoffs.
Apple lawyers have come out and said that they consider the Nokia Lumia is a device that is original and truly competes.
Big for Nokia & Microsoft IMO... the next windows phone 8 devices they release could be big sellers.

The iphone doesn't violate patents because the other companies who had developed similar things before didn't remember that a company like Apple would come along trying to suck money to every single competitor. Every android and windows phone OEM who feels they might be next should cease cooperation with them and lean heavily on the likes of foxconn, nec and others to weaken them too. Won't happen, but they should. Google best hope there's something good in that Motorola stuff.
I'd hope it's done on a case by case basis, as in if the PM actually contained anything private....or even relevant.
