Crimson Desert First Look: The BlackSpace Engine Tech Preview

this looks insane.
I really wonder how the console versions will run.

running at native 4k on an RDNA3 card with raytracing bodes well for console performance I'd say

It almost seems too good to be true, but if reviews tell me the game is good, then I'll get it. All the footage I've seen over the past six months has looked great and got me really excited, but there is always a fear with these overly ambitious titles, that they may not fully deliver in the end. Looks great on the technical side, I hope console versions will look good as well.

Native 4K60 Ultra Settings with RT near locked framerate on a 7900XTX?
And theres a settings beyond Ultra????

Mate!?!?!?!?!
Bring back bespoke engines!

We eating good.
Glad to know/guess Ill be able to easily clock this with DLSS B Preset M at 4K.
Looks absolutely stunning.

If it delivers all the promises they are claiming...........This might be my GOTY already pretty early in the year.

We eating good PC bros.......we eating good.

Is this game going to be the next Witcher? I dont know man but I am extremely excited to play this one

The witcher was great because of the writing, not the tech or world. I think this is going to play better than the witcher, but I cant see the narrative or moment to moment writing matching up.
Lot of people are overhyping themselves with this one and they'll end up disappointed and picking out flaws.

I understand your point but I dont fully agree with it

I think Witcher 3 in particular has very especial vibes, art design, very unique and atmospheric. The world in Witcher 3 felt very alive and interesting to explore. It was fun to be inside the world even though I always hated the combat

That's the type of comparison that I am making in this case

It's going to be much better, at least for my tastes as I favor exploration and combat instead of scenario/branching dialogues. But the cutscenes are still going to be much better than TW3, as we have already seen.

This is probably the most impressive game of the gen. The fact that its some random studio with zero pedigree is amazing. These guys built their own engine and made an extremely ambitious game. While countless, well known studios have yet to put out a single fucking thing. This will be on every single GOTY list.

Well they made Black Desert Online so not zero pedigree

As random as Blizzard. For comparison, this is like going from World of Warcraft to Elder Scrolls, if they were developed by the same studio. Still, it's a massive leap but they have the tools, know-how and money to execute it.

I hope this encourages other devs to forget some arcaic formulas like the leveling up grind or the check list missions as main quest design.

Looks great! Hope it runs just as well, might serve as lesson for other devs.

btw. wasn't it also Pearl Abyss that developed DokeV?

what happened to that game?
one trailer and then it just vanished lol.
They put all they resources into Crimson Desert, but with the game already done they are back at working on that one.

Dokev looks insane too. Like a mix of Pokemon and Astrobot. However, I'd bet that game will be GaaS because I can't see anyone other than Nintendo selling millions with that kind of game.

also given how good Crimson Desert looks, DokeV seems more realistic now.

back when it was shown, many people thought the entire thing was a completely fake game because it looked too good and was too dynamic and open.

maybe they're using Crimson Desert as a proof that they can do stuff like this 😅

the official announcement called it an "Open world, creature collecting, action adventure"

seemingly either single player or limited MP.

so, could be GaaS free, but who knows if plans have changed since its announcement

First INT8 FSR4 is extremely slow on RDNA3 cards specially at 4k. Second, do you really think they are going to send footage to DF using a leaked model?

would be kind of a flex lol.
"look, it's not only 4k native, but we also waste GPU resources on FSR4 just for the LULz"

UE5 has not had a massive open world with high graphic fidelity yet and likely not until they change the foundation of the engine for CDPR's Witcher 4

What a disappointment, gen will be done and it might have 1 open world under its belt.

Maybe lol. They sure seem like a very ambitious studio, and if they really pull this one out I could see Dokev being another fantastic game.

But yeah lets wait and see how this one turns out.

Looks like a CryEngine moment tbh, just way better optimized for current hardware.

Really looking forward to CPU&GPU benchmarks and how scalable this thing is. I wonder if I'll be able to push for the cinematic settings with DLSS at 1440p ultra wide with my 4070ti super.

What impresses me the most is the optimisation. This isn't UE5, where the performance is so spotty that it ruins a lot of the experience. This isn't a linear cinematic game, where the experience is so hemmed in that they can fake everything. This is an open world with real time GI and RT reflections, with terrific animation and interaction systems, on an absolutely massive scale. And it runs - apparently - extremely well. Very impressive!

The more I see the more I'm prepared to make this one of my rare full price purchases.

I'm almost there. I will still wait for my usual reviewers to cover it. ACG, Skillup, GManLives, etc. If they praise it, then this might be my first full price purchase in about........ 3 years? maybe

What is encouraging is Pearl Abyss's "show, don't tell" approach. I remember their very first trailer. It was 5 minutes long and just straightup gameplay footage. No voiceover, no pre-rendered bullshit, just dropped 5 minutes of gameplay. Even left in thr framerate drops and janky animation. It screamed confidence.
