Let's say Ted Cruz won the Republican nomination, would that mean that naturalised citizens like Schwarzenneger could run for President? Mitt Romney's father was born in Mexico if i recall and no one gave two shits, and with Ted Cruz getting the ticket I am sure next time this birth certificate crap comes up even less could be said. We all know the reason tea partiers and birthers ain't saying shit but I am curious.

He's not even an anchor baby, he's Canadian.

Cruz's mother was a native-born American and his father was a Cuban that became a naturalized citizen. Even though he was born in Canada, and as much as it pains me to say this, he's an American because his parents were citizens.

Ironically, even if Obama was born in Kenya, he would still have citizenship through his mother. Schwarzenegger wouldn't be able to run and George Romney could have run. In a better world, George Romney was president instead of Nixon.

Funny thing, Ted Cruz's birth name is Rafael Edward Cruz.

I heard conservative columnist David Brooks on PBS NewsHour talking about Ted Cruz last night and he's probably right. He said something like "Ted Cruz is universally unpopular. In the law firm, at school, when he worked for George W. Bush's campaign. Nobody likes him. If you're running an anti-Washington campaign the fact that everybody that's worked with hates you seems like a plus. The GOP has a problem. They don't want Trump but if the alternative is Cruz, they don't want that either."

Basically they're screwed either way.

Senator McCaskill (D. Missouri) was on David Axelrod's pod this week and also basically said that nobody at all in the Senate likes Cruz.

No, Arnold couldn't. The cases aren't similar. The "natural born citizen" thing has never been tested and it isn't defined, but people generally think the only test is "were you an American citizen at birth". Cruz was, Schwarzenneger wasn't.

What I wanna know, is that if Cruz is so notably intelligent, what is his endgame? He should be smart enough to know that his brand of extremism is going to lock him out of the White House. Where as some expect Donald Trump to shift back towards the center if he gets the nomination, Cruz seems like such a true believer that I just couldn't see it happening in the least. How would he even have a shot at the presidency?
