Cyberpunk 2077 - An ode to one of the best games ever

I think it's a bit early for that to be decided, not having played GTA6. But the two games will be different anyway, both having their places IMO
I agree that they're different but they will still get compared for both being open world games set in a city. GTA6 will look great and have an impressive level of detail in its open world, but a few things won't change. This level of detail will all be surface level. You won't be able to enter like 95%+ of the buildings you see and the mission design will always have you just be an actor playing a role and the second you go off script, it's "Mission Failed". Don't expect miracles from the GTA6 combat either, best case scenario it'll be a solid 3rd person cover shooter experience with a decent 1st person mode. Cyberpunk is just on another level in terms of mission/quest design and world building/immersion. The combat in Cyberpunk is very fun and varied although you are way too powerful by the end of the game. GTA6 will be a ton of fun, just goofing around in Vice City but it will never have the depth that Cyberpunk has.

My favourite three games are SOMA, Portal 2 and The Secret of Monkey Island. I'm currently about halfway through Elden Ring.

I tried about five times to get into Cyberpunk and I've put about 60 hours into it, but I just found it dead boring and actually dull.

I'm in my second playthrough (Corpo) and when I bought the apartment in the corpo district, I decided to do some clothes shopping. Only to realize that I didn't just enter a shop but got a quest after it that I totally didn't get on my first play through.

The hidden missions and story bits in this game are insane. I would really like to know how many hours of voice content had to be recorded for this game. In different languages as well.

Hope that the rumors about another DLC are true.

I've been playing this for the last two weeks or so, I'm about 45hrs into it. Absolutely love it. I never bothered with the game when it first came out, given all the horrible impressions, I avoided it. 2.3 update with Phantom Liberty and it's the complete package. It is a little jank here and there, with some visual bugs, but overall it's in a playable state. I'm a fair way into Phantom Liberty, and pretty much completed everything in the main quest line for the base game, so I'm not far from the finish line now.

yup i agree fully with you OP

500 hours play time, 4 times completed overall. i can still play more and i still want to play more. mods make the game infinitely more fun too

i just cannot leave it and its characters behind. DLC was the icing on the cake

I get what you mean, but it's too early for this IMO. We barely know anything about GTA6, these are just your assumptions based on previous entries. The gunplay for example in RDR2 and Max Payne 3 was awesome so they are capable of creating good combat. With their infinite money they are definitely capable of creating a game that surpasses Cyberpunk in everything you listed. Especially 6 years after that while being a current gen exclusive. In my opinion it would be a shame if they didn't. We will see if they manage.

Didn't hook me the same way Witcher did, not even close. Remember bits and pieces, but nothing really stood out. It's a great game, just not "one of the best ever".

It´s a bummer that some storylines feel unfinished, like the one with the politicians. In certain occasions I would have loved to see how things played out later (and I don´t mean the voice message you get at the end).

The game´s not overly bloated like Ubi Soft games and the OG side missions tend to be repetitive. They upped that significantly with Phantom Liberty, though.

Just wrapped up the Phantom Liberty tonight, and yeah, amazing game.
One of the most compelling worlds I've experienced in a long time, gameplay that's both flexible and deep, pretty graphics, a stellar story, its the full package.

My only gripe is that to this day there's still a few too many bugs, but thankfully they're not frequent or serious enough to really spoil the experience.

That's a pretty surprising post with this name and avatar

Wrote this in the OT in 2022

I'm 40h into this on PS5 and the more I play it the more frustrated I become. Why? Because this is not only a GOTY contender but by the time it's all said and done I'm pretty sure I'll regard it as a stone cold classic. I'm frustrated CDPR released this in the reportedly disastrous state it launched in 2020. This should have *never* released on last-gen consoles, the scale and scope of the world is way too ambitious, I continue to be impressed at every turn. I'm frustrated CDPR forever sullied their own reputation, this 1.5 ver should have been the official release of the game, it would have been the big gaming event it was meant to be and celebrated far and wide.

Does the game still have bugs? Absolutely, as does *every single open-world game I've ever played*. I know they will continue to improve things (and they should!) but let's not pretend this is anything new in the genre. Putting all that aside I continue to be astounded by the world CDPR created, there is an attention to detail (peep the roof interior textures of Panam's car the first mission with her) that is rarely - if ever - seen (shoutout to RDR2, that's in a league of it's own). The characters, dialogue and story are all excellent with certain story sequences that literally made my jaw drop, they will stay with me for some time to come.

Emergent gameplay moments lead to unique and memorable experiences. Last night I took on a CyberPsycho in the Badlands, was in the afternoon, just so happened that a sandstorm rolled in, just so happened this psycho was a sniper in a tower, absolutely epic, the stars aligning. I've had numerous moments like this and each time I think to myself "man, this game is fucking awesome!". Aesthetically - not always but at times - this is the most visually striking game I've ever played. I could go on and on, if I have any real criticisms I wish the driving was tighter and there was a quicker/more intuitive way to sift through inventory and phone messages, that's about it.

Love the combat (props to DualSense implementation for the 3rd time), love cruising around listening to tunes while doing jobs for fixers, love the insane number of skills available to customize my character, love the story choices and yes, I even love Johnny Silverhand (though I can see how this character can be a love/hate thing). Pro-tip for anyone shitting on this game in it's *current* form: stop snorting laundry detergent, the neurological damage is irreparable. I'm happy to see *some* on this forum seem to be enjoying as much as I am, keep it rockin chooms.

With TW3 and Cyberpunk CDPR have now created *two* all-time classics. This thread reminds me I still need to play Phantom Liberty 👌

I like your optimism, sadly I tend to assume the worst, that way I'm rarely disappointed. In the case of GTA6 I just can't see the gameplay evolving much. I would love to be wrong on this one though.

On the other hand, I'm pretty optimistic about Cyberpunk 2 (except for the move to UE5 which will hopefully be UE6 by the time it comes out) because of how much Phantom Liberty improved over the base game. Even though Dogtown is a small district, it felt huge because it was well designed with almost every building enterable and with many layers such as underground parking structures, tunnels, back-alleys, etc... The quest and mission design evolved as well. The fact there are entire areas that you won't see unless you make certain choices is really cool.

I think it's time for my second playthrough...

That's a good tactic I also use most of the time for better or worse 😄

But I'm more worried about Cyberpunk 2. I don't have an issue with UE5 as many have, I play in quality mode so I'm good generally. But I agree that it's a shame they ditched their engine because that one is still among the best and I don't understand the reasons, I guess it is easier to hire and work with the devs in the USA they are hiring for this project because they might know UE but are not familiar with CDPR's internal engine. And what worries me more is that it will be infested with woke bullshit thanks to being American made and also because of the news we got recently from CDPR. CP2077 was already one of the most diverse games ever and it also fit the setting of its world and it didn't feel forced but I fear the game will be written by braindead woke activists who will just want to push their craziness. But this insanity is dying now so maybe we will be lucky and it will be decent.
