Cyberpunk 2077 currently looks really bad on PS5 (not a shitpost).

* Just started the game - the resolution is so low that you hardly can see any details on face in character creation. It looks like something reconstructed to 1080p (confirmed by DF that the temporal AA is messed up creating really strong ghosting effects, look edit 2). PS5 runs limited to PS4 Pro DSR max resolution: 1188p (averages between972p-1188p) confirmed by DF

* HDR does not work on my Q9FN - it just washes out colours (confirmed broken by Vincent from HDTV, look edit 3)

* some effects are so fucking bad that they looks like a bug.

* pop-up is pretty bad. The general pop-up is really ps4ish but this is to be expected but there are a lot of cases of some kind of "bugged" pop-up - where shadows/textures like graffiti etc are disappearing if you move further than 1m from object.

* I think 3D audio (and audio in general) is phenomenal, like in the first 30 min I got fooled a few times by turning my head to check WTF was this (honking and sirens especially). Never happened to me before in other games.

This game... should not be released looking like this.

EDIT 1:
Turning off CA, DoF, Blur and Grain helped a lot to clean the image.

EDIT 2:

Ok I found the culprit why the game looks like shit in motion.

Temporal AA is fucked up. Timestamped and screenshot. It might seems like something minor but on 65" inch tv from 2-3 meters is just destroys image quality in motion.

Edit 3:
As I said - HDR is fucked up

I am not sure to what extent, but that's really my experience with XSX. Great game, but it's visually off-putting, even for game on Pro consoles, it should look better, Witcher 3 looked better, not that many object I understand that, but still.

Looks like a shitpost to me.

A single screenshot compared to plenty of footage on Youtube which looks plenty good is also a bit of a weak argument. Every game in the universe can be made to look "Bad" with one screenshot.

Let's not even consider the fact that you're literally playing a PS4 game via backward-compatibility likely without tempering your expectations.

My problem is that there is so much detail in the world but because of that resolution and post-processing you can't really enjoy it. Everything looks like smeared with vaseline.

That's really disappointing. I was watching some PC footage that also looked really mediocre with lots of LOD issues, pop-in, and barren environments. To me it didn't look anything special.

I thought CDPR were supposed to be technical wizards? Seems to be a universally unoptimized game. I guess we should have expected that with all the delays. I have the game pre-loaded but I'm thinking of just waiting a few months until it's patched for good (next gen patch)

I assume you are playing with the Day 1 patch?

I've played it on the Series X for 8 hours so far and it looks great and its been pretty much smooth sailing. I had the screen freeze a couple of times for 3seconds and minor bugs like clipping but nothing wild or game breaking. Character models and the world look insane

also ... RTX 3080 and 3090 can't do 4k 60 on Ultra with Ray Tracing...

all of a sudden I am feeling a whole lot better for not being able to find a 3080!!!

Looks like it will be 4080 for me...

If this game looks like this on PS4Pro it is still unacceptable. I did not have high expectations but the screen resolution is so low that every detail of this word is just gone. I am so disappointed right now... I mean not even 1440p ?

Always wait a year plus for any CDPR game, even without COVID-19 their games are a technical mess on release, usually a year later they'll release the Enhanced Edition™ and fix a lot of things (sometimes they don't, looking at you Witcher 2) so I'd say hold off buying it until some substantial patches are released, plus it'll be cheaper by then.

I will not sell it tomorrow because I bought it digital, it improves something by deactivating some (all) graphic options, but it is the ugliest thing I have played in a long time. (ps4 pro)

...because it's a huge game pushing a bunch of new tech? It reminds me of crysis

You aren't playing league of legends here

It's just the way the game is because of the post processing and AA technique. Even though it runs around 1200p on PS5 it looks more like 1080p, or less at times.

Even on PC at 4K it looks softer than your average game at native res.

Im definitely going to wait for the next gen update before i do a full playthrough.
Although if i get the game before then ill be doing all three starts and dropping it when ive seen them.

Is it even possible to refund via PSN if I already started the game?

Yep. No next-gen update killed my hype.

I'll wait until they get their house in order.

The game sadly looks a bit blurry on SeriesX aswell. And im not seeing a improvement with the quality mode in regards to resolution.
Its weird

Just played the first 90 minutes, game can look good but in some places also really bad,

Hard to explain, but it's not the end of the world.

Something is wrong with your console then because it looks great on mine.

I'd be upset if there weren't next-gen optimization patches coming. But they are, so I'll suck it up for now as an impatient person who needs to play it now.

Should have been next-gen only. I'm not surprised it looks like shit on consoles currently.

Probably the best looking game ever on PC.

Lol dude, you know whats sucks? Not showing console footage prior to release. It is so beyond me how ppl like you are gonna defend CDP when they spit in your face. Yea, not showing console release was a weird move and now I know why.

I mean, sure. But also, if this is something that bothers you, you probably shouldn't have pre-ordered the game sight-unseen.

Now that the game has been released, there is tons of console footage available to help you make up your mind, literally less than an hour after go-time.

The youtube footage looks "ok" for the most part. And that's with youtube destroying the image quality even more.

You have to wait for the day one patch coming tomorrow thursday. That will fix alot of issues and hopefully make it more crisp. I don't care if it's 30 or 60, I just want that crisp and lightning. Playing it on my PS5 tomorrow.

To be expected, I guess. The PC review embargo was strange with only allowing b-roll. Combine that with all the reported bugs and lack of PS5/XSX versions, it's obvious this game needed more time in the oven. On the bright side, CDPR always supports their games well so I'm sure this will improve over time. I still say that you are better off playing this game six months to a year from now once everything is ironed out.

day one patch is already out

Yeah I might just play the opening and then wait for the next gen patch before I do a proper play through.

By then it'll be in a much better state. Would be a shame to ruin it by playing it in this state.

Anyone expecting an experience different to Witcher 3-at-launch really needs their head examined. A lot of ppl really don't remember how buggy W3 was back in the day.

But, we're good, we know CDPR will support the game for years like W3.

Is it even possible to refund via PSN if I already started the game?

The other week I got a refund on Dirt 5 because it's a bug filled mess that crashed continuously until it corrupted my save. I went on the Playstation support live chat. There will be a bunch of automated questions, including "have you downloaded or started the game". If you answer yes the automated reply will basically be "oops too bad". Answer no and it'll eventually connect you to live chat.

It's the PS4 version so it won't be a looker, but I think it looks okay on streams. At least it's smooth.

To be fair, it looks average on every platform, especially since very few PCs can even run it with RT and keep a close to 60 fps framerate. Everybody is angry about the performance on the streams. Even DLSS isn't a solution, it makes the game look bad like on Watch Dogs Legion : I watched a PC streamer earlier getting mad trying every setting and none worked to get a decent framerate, outside of DLSS, but it made the game look like dogshit he said.

Actually, if Gerstmann's opinion is true, it's quite a bit smoother on PS5 than on his PC with a 2080 Ti : looking at the mirror put the game in single digit on his PC (and I saw the same thing earlier today on a PC stream), and he even stopped driving he said because it was a slideshow.

I watched the same sequences (mirror and driving) on the PS4 version running on PS5 and it has none of those problems. Different settings obviously, but the PS4 version running on PS5 is smoother.
