Damn it all, Geist is fun.

Really? I thought most people were expecting LESS, actually.
Well, that is true. The game does get a lot of hate but judging from how long the game was in development and being backed by Nintendo, the game should have been better.

Ahh, now that's different, entirely. :)

Geist is a rare bone thrown out to American gamers, IMHO. And unlike Metroid, it doesn't belong to a trusted and treasured (here, anyway) franchise.

This is true, but seeing as how Geist is a new IP, this is all the more reason for Nintendo to push for N-Space to really create something great and noticeable with it. Nintendo gave them the time and money, but most of the blame falls on N-Space. Like I said, they have potential, but it has yet to be realized. Nintendo needs to watch over them more closely.

Why? They aren't Nintendo, like Retro is. Nintendo gave 'em a chance, and they bungled it. I suggest Nintendo stop wasting their time and seek actual talent.

Geist may be a good game, but it's not exceptional, by all reports. Then again, it might be NSpace's best game ever. Surely it's their only game I've ever planned to buy (and will, eventually.)

:lol :lol Same here. No Mary Kate & Ashley games for me.
Nintendo did give them the oppurtunity, it was N-Space who screwed it up. There are quite a few good ideas with Geist, but they should have been built upon. It's up to Nintendo what they want to do with it Geist now. I guess we'll have a better idea when sales data comes in.

I imagine it means the scripted events are much dumber than the map-covering bots. their hemmed in as it were by plot events, etc.

still loving the game, woe?

The games difficulty in firefights comes from number of enemis not thier AI, save for one boss guy that was semi smart.

I haven't played since last night, where I stopped at a boss, but I enjoyed it all that afternoon and into the night, something not many games have done this gen have drawn me in, the story and puzzle element more than make up for some technical shortcomings, and the control is not as bad as it's been amde out to be, it's no halo or timesplitters level of control, but it's not awful either.

The game isnt so bad. AI is horrible(practically non existant...they just stand there), making the gun play segments useless. The controls arent so bad though, in fact I like them. The posession aspect is cool, the story seems interesting, and the graphics and music are ok. Its not a bad game, but a crap shooter. A rental, but I'm still enjoying it. Nothing to go gaga over, but enjoyable.

Geist is fun indeed. Right now I just escorted Bryson though the levels and helped him escape on a motorcycle. The puzzles really make sense and some make u think a little.

Sure the controls are loose, but the game is fun. And isn't that what it's really all about?

Spoiler tags GRRRRRRR :)

Fun battle. Hard, but fun. Took me 4 tries to figure out the pattern. Very long battle too.

Good times.

Edit: Now I realize the severity of the spoiler....sorry.

Yeah I did that battle twice last night but it was late, and it was LOUD :)

I'll go back at it soon.

Been playing mutliplayer for about 2 hours now.

It is refreshing, at least. I really enjoy posessing peices of the environment, and exploding them as players run by, haha.

The AI is very mixed.
Sometimes, these guys seem unfairly difficult - since they ALWAYS seem to be in bodies, or know where they are. But othertimes, they just stand there twitching like total retarts.

So the bots seem a mixed bag. I'm not confident enough yet to try them on harder settings other than "normal," so I don't know if it improves.

My brother is a huge Halo fantatic, and he seems to like it enough.
Graphics are functional. I haven't noticed any slowdown, in fact the loading is all pretty fast and whatnot.

C-stick is a little slow movement, but like I said, the posessing elements like up for it. Posessing a body till its about to die, rejecting it, and hijacking the guy shooting you turns out to be a riot sometimes, its especially if its a human controller player who gets pissed off, haha.

Haven't tried the single player yet.

might check out Geist but this game has the biggest mix bag of reviews i have seen so far

3 gave in the 5's,2 gave it in the 6's,3 gave it in the 7's,3 gave it in the 8's according to GR

:lol

I am now past the point of
being re-captured

It really picks up after this point, and multiplayer is a blast I wonder iof they left the lan play code on the disc R* style.

Well, I'm at the end of the game now.

Anyone else think it got much much harder, really quickly at the end?

I dunno, I keep dying.

I've had a good experience with the game, though.
The more you unlock in mutliplayer, the more replay hours it adds.
I actually wish the main game was a bit longer, but ya know what, NO BACKTRACKING!!!!!!!! At ALL! that is a HUGE plus in my book.

And they go out of there way to constantly attempt to create new ways to scare/posses, so I enjoy that too.

There def. was a lot of effort put into this game. You can tell n-Space uh... TRIED as hard as they could, at least :) Well, it beats their Duke Nukems!

Anyone else pick it up? Opinions?

Meanwhile, has anyone seen how cool the website is?
check it out SCARY

Some of the art is neato too

I'm stuck at the
Ghost bug
keeps dragging me into the fans and killin me.

I do love the multiplayer in this game though, and yes no backtracking is very nice.

This game is an ideal rental IMO. I felt that the story could've been expanded a great deal to make things more interesting. This game could really benefit from a direct sequel or indirect sequel that borrowed its elements and refined them to reach the standards of modern FPSes and still be a good puzzle/adventure game.

I've been playing it for about 2 hours (all in all) and while it's not exceptional, it is fun. I feel it has a bit of an "it" factor reguardless of it's elements generally being subpar to other games.

The music is very catchy, and I personally hope we see a Geist 2 sometime down the road. I'll glad I bought this game.

The best way to kill him is to stay up on the landing. When it possesses you being up there keeps enough distance to stay out of the fans. Usually, you will be able to stay up on the landing also. Just lob the grenades in slow-mo as he scurries about on the lower level.

Just wait until you get to the last level.

Boss after boss after boss.

I just beat it.

The end was harder than all other parts of the game combined.
Damn mutlipe bosses.

Anyway, ending sucked.
And I wished the game was longer.

Great rental, purchase...? Well, it wasn't bad. I don't regret it, mutliplayer makes up for it.

The game is just so uneven, sometimes it really impresses me, sometimes I laugh at it.

I rented it and I'm returning it without finishing. What a poorly made game. Bad AI, bad controls, bad graphics...just a mediocre effort all around. I like the idea of using a spirit form to possess objects and people but it's just so obvious and painfully constructed the way it played out here. Just a horrid developer, this game lived up to all the bad I heard about it all throughout the development process.

Well, it wasn't that bad. I really like the slow motion effects, I think they did a really good job incorporating that into the game. Combinded with the rag doll phsyics, you can have a lot of fun just blowing guys up and watching the flop around in slow motion. And then when the badguys get this ability too, and when you get the ability in human form to get super fast/slow, I think it works out pretty well.

And come on, not even 5 minutes of backtracking? In a game like this, that takes some serious effort to go out of your way to avoid that. I give them kudos for that.

And the virtual training sessions were pretty interesting, I liked the graphical effects of that too, but it was a bit stretched out in the middle.

And some of the later puzzles just get downright tricky. The game just holds your hand at first, before letting you figure out things on your own. Some of the bosses are just downright difficult, particularly later on.

But the rest of the time, yea... felt like I was playing a N64 game with the RAM expansion, heh. And having a shooter without any type of ammo is kinda........ well, cheesey.

Bought the game yesterday, finished it today.

I started off thinking it as a 7.5 game, but after finishing it, I think I have to give it a solid 8.0. The shooter portions were indeed undercooked, and I definitely felt the lack of any kind of option to tweak analog sensitivity, but as a "first person adventure", I thought it was a very unique, original, and mostly enjoyable experience. The level design was fantastic, it was filled with bosses (roughly 3/4 were just plain great), and the game was just surprisingly well balanced and varied. By no means a perfect experience, but certainly a lot better than I would have thought. Might just turn out to be my sleeper of the year contender.

The only thing about the game that downright SUCKED was the last boss. Just a total WTF battle, from a gameplay perspective. (Reminded me of Starfox Adventures, in that sense.) It also controlled poorly, and I didn't dig that it used a completely different control scheme from the entire rest of the game. So, aside from a lame last boss, it was a good game. Decent graphics, decent animation, good voice acting, great music, and lots and lots of atmosphere.

Edit - Lots of neat ideas. A sequel headed up by a different developer could turn out amazing.

Better than I expected - I really enjoyed the part where you got to run around as a rat or a dog, poison food, etc. Pretty much anytime you weren't shooting boring weapons at stupid ceiling monsters were Good Times. Possessions + creepy green girl history=good.

However, I'm still waiting to reserve judgement until I beat it - I've been stuck at the final boss for 10 days. Every day I pull the "Geist 5" - 5 tries of cursing and controller abusing trying to kill the end boss. The fact that I found Very Few ghost collectibles makes this final battle rather grueling. Over 30 times I've managed to get him to 2/3rds health and then died within seconds. Someday I'll tear you down, confound you!

The poor end-boss controls don't help.

You know that you can replay levels you've already completed? I never tried, but I imagine if you pick up some of the collectibles you miss and expand your spirit energy, you'll have an easier time of it!

Good lord. There is no bad Nintendo game that can't find resurrection on GAF. Since you buy (maybe play?) just about every game out there I can't understand what part of this game fills you with such forgiveness. It feels so dated and poorly put together. I didn't see anything in it's gimmick that felt so fresh or idea driven that would equal it's redemption, though thank goodness Nintendo force them to add that gimmick in.

haha, no and well you shouldn't. just griping, sorry. it bummed me out.

Well, I AM sorry that it bummed you out. Honestly though, not that many sleepers this year, so far. It's more about that than Geist being some kind of amazing game (which it surely isn't.)

And yet you give it an 8? Not trying to be rude, but an 8 is pretty darn good for a game that surely isn't amazing.

Not really. 10 is near perfect. 9, 9.5 is amazing. 7.5 or 8 is pretty good, but flawed. IMHO, of course.

I leaned twoards an 8 instead of 7.5 because I dug the music, the multiplayer is fun, the story is great, and it's a very unique game with interesting, well-implemented concepts. Level design was top notch too. It won't score higher due to the rough graphics, low level of polish, unrefined controls, and finally, no option to tweak analog sensitivity. The game is by no means broken, however. Thus, an 8.0, not a 7.5.

8 it is then. Fair enough.

IMHO, and this horse has been beat dead, but rating scales are so off these days. But that is for another thread...
