I'm stoked to play this, but I don't think ill be buying a Kinect this fall.

Really interested in seeing what they do for hard mode on songs like Satisfaction and Superman (Crank That).

Getting it from Amazon for $27 with my credit, am pleased. Looking forward to this one to be sure.

Dance Central will feature downloadable content beginning Nov. 4, 2010. Each song will not only deliver fresh music, but also completely new routines that will keep dance parties going for months to come.

This is great to hear too.

Yup, I know Janet Jackson has a track confirmed, I'm just anxious to see which one (I'll take any though!)

Don't forget the Ellen vid that and the general buzz seem to show how popular this game will be
Thanks, I did forget about it, haha. I also entered the contest on that page :-D. I'll add the video to the OP.

killer app?

oh yes indeed.

once you watch people playing it you will want it. i know that's what got me sold on kinect. i know it's selling other people...

and frankly, if you're a harmonix fan you don't really think too much about spending $200 on one of their games.

I posted in the Kinect OT that I was going to making this thread.
And I PM'd you about it and got no response. I also posted before in the "Any Gaffers excited about Kinect" thread that I would post this thread. If you want to do a better job (which wouldn't be hard), have at it. I really don't care who makes the OT, as long as there is one, cause I'm excited about this game.

Your OT is fine.

Good, even.

Ok then I'll post the thread soon
Edit: Or I could just pm you the text and you can put it into the thread.

I kinda get the feeling that this is going to be the wii fit of the kinect in that everyone will own it but after the first few months, nobody will play it. I just don't think anyone is taking into consideration how much energy actually goes into dancing. That said, I think it's a great game.

Is it really necessary to post another OT?

What's wrong with this one? It tells us everything we need to know about the game with the bonus of not coming off like Harmonix made marketing material.

I think it's fine.

Yeah this one is perfectly fine.

I never knew making OT's was such serious business. :lol

Why don't you two just collaborate?

I have a feeling this will have a monster attach rate. Everyone who is even remotely interested in Kinect seems to be interested in DC.

Its up to him. I can just add his stuff and credit him. He told me he already has a banner up, so I don't want his stuff to go to waste. Gamerx, let me know.

Dance Central will be the highest rated game (7-8), but I think Kinect Sports will do more. Not everyone can dance or want to embarrass themselves trying. I am getting both myself.

Question: On some level, isn't this essentially the same as Just Dance? Or Singstar: Dance?

When it was revealed, I was sure this was the only game that could actually convince me to buy Kinect, but now I realize there are potential alternatives.

I mean, I love Harmonix, but besides the "full body tracking" -- and even that seems negligible considering that you aren't mimicking on screen -- I'm not sure what is significantly different anymore.

Looking forward to seeing some detailed analysis of how much tracking the game is doing on the player. After playing a few songs during a demo I wasn't really convinced by it.

You are mimicking what's being displayed on screen, and it shows a little version of you on the right.

The two key differences between this and the likes of Just Dance is that it does the full body tracking as you mentioned, and you don't need to hold or wear a controller while you're dancing. I think it's a more accessible and natural way to play a dancing game, and people will be attracted to that.

It's tracking your full body to give you an actual score and figure out what parts of the move individually you're fucking up (they glow red on the dancer when you mess up).

No need to put them in quotes, it's what is actually happening.

Yes, on approximately the same level on which Just Dance is essentially the same as Dance Dance Revolution. In other words, not so much.

As I've grown more fond of the Kinect with each video I watch, Dance Central has quickly become the game I'm most excited for. I've got two left feet when it comes to dancing, but I just foresee Dance Central being a fun party experience. I can't think of a single soul that won't find at least some pleasure in shaking their rump.

I have to say, though, I think thread title could probably use improvement. Instead of talking just about Dance Central, I forsee a lot of talk about what IS the Kinect's Killer App or, more likely, that it does not and never will have one.

Thread has CT girl I see. :lol

Anyway, this is Kinect's killer app for me. Were it not for Dance Central I likely wouldn't be buying Kinect. Though I do foresee myself breaking a hip when going all out on my old man dancing skills. :D

Yeah, it's by far my most wanted. Between this and RB3, Harmonix is my own personal Hannukah this year.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
My girlfriend looked at a Just Dance Commercial was thought it was interesting. I told her that I was getting Dance Central for us and when I showed her the preview video on Xbox Live, she thought it to be awesome. I'm excited as well. Getting this, Kinectimals and Kinect Sports. Rare whore here :D

AKA The game that leveled up from shovelware to Killer app because it's made by Harmonix.
so you never get excited about a game based on it coming from a developer with a strong track record in that genre?

harmonix make awesome music games. why shouldn't i pay attention to the dev?

It wasn't shovelware in the first place, it is a killer app because its developed by a good developer....

?

How, exactly?

I think he means that dance games, in general, garner little interest from people on GAF.

Combine Harmonix (a highly regarded dev) with a lack of compelling content for Kinect at launch and people who have never shown interest in dancing games are now convinced this game is a killer app. Were it made by another developer, it's possible that no one would be talking about it.

Thinking of picking this up as well, but I also want the YourShape thing as well. But If I come home without that Zuumba game the wife will make me sleep on the couch...:D

I really don't want to buy 3 Kinect games...

Yeah, kinda.

I don't mean to hate, but if this is a killer app because Just Dance was so successful, then so is Kinect Sports (Wii Sports), Kinectimals (Nintendogs), Joyride (Mariokart) etc.
