Dance Dance Revolution with MARIO

Took long enough! MC Groov Dance Craze was the biggest pile of crap I have ever touched and regret paying $50 for it. My pad will at least have SOME use now.

Well, we'll see what the big deal is in a week and a half when they show this game on the 16th.
I wonder what shape it'll be in - how long Konami and Nintendo have been working on this.

Mario gets ready to lose the pounds.

Nintendo and Konami announced today that not only is DDR finally coming to GameCube, but that Nintendo's number one plumber will be throwing his weight into the project (which seems to be becoming a trend lately). Dance Dance Revolution with Mario is being co-developed by Konami and Nintendo and is due for a summer release in Japan with a dance mat bundle also available. In addition to the familiar rhythm-based gameplay that many Nintendo fans have missed out on for years, DDR with Mario will also include several mini-games. Although specifics on the song list have not been made available, it's a safe bet that at least a handful of Nintendo-themed tunes will be included.

DDR with Mario will be on display at Nintendo and Konami's booths during the Next Generation World Hobby Fair in Japan, which starts on January 16th.

I don't fine a problem if they somehow find good ways to utilize the franchise, in this case they probably could put mario into good use in those platforming mini-games.

I agree!!

As I've said before- Konami are making this, so it's not like it's taking any resources away from Nintendo, same with EA and NBA Street.

If it makes the games more appealing to GC owners, and brings games like DDR to the Cube, then I'm definitely not complaining.

Mario sells. Big time. What's the problem with having him appear in games like this? The problem as has been said before, is that we need him to get down to some proper platform goodness at some point as well. If Mario 128 comes out this year and it rocks, I'll be happy :D

If I actually liked DDR I'd probably be pretty pissed with this coming out while there hasn't been a new arcade DDR for the last year+.

We need to define "milk". That might seem like a silly statement, but I think we do.

To be honest, I can stand Nintendo's own iterations of Mario games since usually the games are of respectable quality and thus don't damage the franchise (I would consider "milking" to refer to the damaging of a franchise). However it is risky passing it out to third parties..not saying it will damage Mario, but we'll have to wait and see.

In the end though, I guess a "proper" Mario game of comparable quality to the absolute classics in the series would heal all wounds.

I don't think even "poor" peripheral uses (outside platforming) of Mario would damage his reputation at his roots (platforming). This is one of the ways in which Nintendo's "whoring" differs from other companies. With, say, Tomb Raider, the core series was "whored", destroying its credibility. If Eidos had put lara in unrelated games but maintained the quality of her core adventures over fewer iterations, its longevity would have been far more secure imo.

The way in which Nintendo is using its characters in different types of games, buffers them from one another, in other words. For example, my love for Mario Tennis is waning (just my opinion), but that has little impact on how I would view Mario 128.

What difference does it make?

Mario Kart is awesome.
Mario Golf / Tennis / Baseball are / will be amongst the best and most fun sports games around
Mario Party is a blast
Mario RPG / Paper Mario is one of the best games made last year

It's not like it's just endless Street Fighters that are virtually the same as the previous one, or Winning Elevens, or Maddens or whatever.

They are all very different games to one another.

The name, the licence, the characters are popular and sell. What's wrong with that?

When will Mario come with a new platform title. We only get ports or Mario in other games. Nintendo is desperate... :lol

How do those titles cut down the number of platformers? The team who would make a Mario platformer isn't busy with those games, other developers are.

I know EAD isn’t making the dairy goods, but It’s the companies focus in general!

Back on the NES and SNES we had multiple golden Platformers in a few year period! There have been three JAK games, three R & C games but Mario is getting fucked over!

I agree to an extent, but the reason isn't that Camelot are making Mario Tennis, or Hudson are making Mario Party, or Namco making Mario Baseball.

EAD need to get another proper Mario platformer out there, but it's not these side-projects that's holding it back, but something else...
