While some Nintendo songs could be fun, I fear for the pad button setup. Sure, you could buy an official mat, but I'd rather not do that since I have a great PS2 one. And I doubt it will work perfectly with adapters.
If you're playing DDR with a pad, you MUST have double digital directions (D-pad+buttons). I don't see a way for that on the GC-pad.

I know I wont get this so it doesnt really matter to me either way, but the best thing about this type of news is listening to all the bitching that results from it. It's kinda like watching a bunch of whiny left-wingers pulling their hair out after some Republican-oriented news.

He will go on about the legacy of mario, his past his present and then the future
They will show a retrospective of mario
They will show Mario Baseball and Nba Street v3 and Mario Baseball
Then they will show Mario DDR and New Mario Bros. for DS
AND THEN.....
They will pull a showstopper and unveil MARIO 128
I'm calling it right now.

Less than 24 hours ago, I thought to myself, "It'd be pretty neat if they made an actual Mario dance game...kind of like those Randy Solem flash movies". This isn't quite that, but close enough. I suspect this'll be released around November in the U.S. Should be another good Christmas for the Cube

I think it's a good strategy for Nintendo to spice up otherwise generic genres. The games sell better and are more fun to play (e.g. using power ups in a tennis game or having Nintendo songs in Donkey Konga).
I consider the "Mario is doing xy" list not as mocking but more as an admiration how versatile the Mario franchise is. Some may argue that's the cause because the character is so generic - there's truth to that, but isn't this also the quality of Mickey Mouse? And just remember how many different jobs Donald Duck has taken because he needed money, it makes Mario's list look tiny. That's why I think the tag "Disney of videogames" is appropriate for Nintendo.

Mario is a pretty universal character. He's like, say Mickey Mouse. He can be made to work in a pretty wide variety of games, imo. There's nothing about him as a character or in terms of his design that suggests he's made for platforming and nothing else.
Link, for example, is a little more limited in the type of game he might be included in - but Mario is far more universal.
There are two potential difficulties imo. Quality of the game, which probably won't be an issue at all, and secondly this becoming a trend whereby publishers with any kind of leverage begin to demand access to Nintendo characters (i.e. "you let Konami use him!" etc. etc.)

Frankly, I say more power to Nintendo because I doubt the Gamecube would've seen any more support from Konami without a move like this.

I think a lot of Nintendo fans would no better given how many games Mario has been in alone. But even then, any gamer is within their rights to bemoan games that come out EVERY YEAR, and merely bring an engine upto snuff and update a roster.
