Dance Dance Revolution with MARIO

How can Nbots be so apologetic about Mario milking, then go around and make posts complaining about how other companies do the same thing?

edited for a little clarity

I never done that, though. Branding and whoring is the way of this industry and people are deluding themselves if they think otherwise. All I'm saying is that it's funny that people are like "OMG STOP DA MILKING" and then turn around each month during NPD time and say that Nintendo needs to do something about sales. Well...that's what their doing right now.

Which is worse?

Nintendo for letting Mario be slapped in this title.

-or-

Konami for making their 5,000,000th DDR game.

The idea that there are folks out there who will now buy NBA Street or DDR just because Mario and company are in them is very..... strange to me.

I agree, but what else is Nintendo going to do? If it works, it works.

outside of the home releases of extreme and ultramix 2, we havent had any "new" ddr in quite some time. 8th mix has been in the arcades for AGES. personally, anything new is good news to me, it's a hope the series isnt completely dead.

Right, than finally does it. Any Nintendo fan accusing any company of milking a license gets an insta-ban for hypocrisy. Honestly, has a character ever been as whored out as Mario?

Ever consider that Konami wanted to use the Mario license?

Sales +1. Now both Mario and I can lose some weight.

And the fact that GameCube-only owners haven't had a DDR on their system doesn't factor into the anticipation at all?

Well, in this case, it'll be the only DDR option for Cube only gamers. So that ... sorta... makes sense.

I wonder who approached who though? Was it Konami who wanted to bring life to one of their dying game series, or was it Nintendo trying to bring a 3rd party developer closer? Maybe a combination? And who's getting the most out of this in the end?

I think a lot of the issues people are having with these games starring Marrio is this. If there were more platforming games starring Mario and friends, people wouldn't care as much. Sure Nintendo aren't creating these off shoot games and that's part of the problem, what are they doing exactly with their own resources? Donating their time between 3 systems, it's not like it used to be that's foresure. =P

Oh yeah, i'll be buying this when it comes out. :D

I don't know, sales for the last couple of DDR games have been crappy for PS2, and I can't imagine the Xbox DDR doing much better either. So the question is, have Gamecube-only owners really been longing for a DDR all this time or are we just assuming that?

Hmm well that makes sense then, surely can't hurt the sales... but what's the logic for sticking Mario and co. in to NBA Street? Weren't the previous versions on the GC?

DDR in Japan hasn't been tearing up sales charts, but the DDR titles in North America have been doing fairly well. DDRMAX2 is past 500K in the US alone, so there's an audience out there.

EDIT: DDR Sales-Age! (LTD)

DDRMAX: 412,483

DDRMAX 2: 442,404
DDRMAX 2 Bundle: 100,325
DDRMAX 2 Total: 542,729

DDR Extreme: 111,202
DDR Extreme Bundle: 81,410
DDR Extreme Total: 192,612

DDR Ultramix: 124,668
DDR Ultramix Bundle: 53,348
DDR Ultramix Total: 178,016

DDR Ultramix 2: 8,007
DDR Ultramix 2 Bundle: 13,428
DDR Ultramix 2 Total: 21,435

Yes, and they also performed well. I guess they figure they can get more sales this way.

It's a hot title at our store for the PS2. The Xbox games are somewhat popular. Then again, so is Greg Hasting's Paintball Tournament.

It's not as if it's different than the past decade. The NES had 3 Mario games, the SNES had 1 (2 if you want to count Yoshi's Island), N64 had 1, GCN has had 1 and might get another... it's not like there's been a relationship between more spinoff games causing fewer main series games; they've just been slow to come past the NES days in general.

How did the n64 ddr games do?
Not sure... I think there was just the one Disney one with the less funky music than the PlayStation Disney one, though, and released only in Japan. :/

I can't believe i missed this :lol :lol

Soon the name "Mario" will mean shit to consumers. Nintendo better start crackin on some new franchises.

It's like people going to see a Julia Roberts movie because Julia Roberts is in it. Same phenomenon. That might be strange, and I guess it is, but it's not unique to Nintendo or games even.

This is outrageous. Don't people realize it isn't about the gameplay, but the characters? I honestly don't think I can ignore that Mario stars in this game, and as such, refuse to make this purchase.

I think people are ignoring how mario was everywhere during the nes era.
I was referring specifically to the limited number of console Mario platformers. Certainly 1985-1991 was the densest time, most of which was on NES.

Still, I'd say it is different than NES, though. He had plenty of appearances in things like Punch-Out!!, but I don't recall so many offshoots like Karts and Parties, or guest appearances in other franchises.

The only thing I am really shocked about is that it took Konami this long to bring DDR to the cube. also, if you are really shocked about Mario making a cameo appearance in a game, then you need to pay attention to the news more often.

The only real difference between then and now is that Mario is appearing in the title. His cameos ended with Dr. Mario and he's been the title charcter even since.

Hell, Nintendo once gutted an entire NES game to add Mario to it.

yea, if it hasnt happened yet, its probably not gonna happen.

Let the whoring continue. Maybe they'll make every 3rd party game have Mario and the gang in it. Perhaps they'll actually have to develop some new IP then.

True. You'd figure considering that DDR fans are more likely to own a PS2 and a GC rather than an Xbox, the GC shouldn't be dead last in terms of DDR releases. But MS probably went after Konami and DDR really aggressively. Had they been ho-hum about it I doubt there would be two Ultramixes.

As for "milking", please. There's a big difference between this and Capcom Fighting Evolution.

Ingrid says hello.
Well, there's the fact that Ingrid was yanked from that abortion of a 3D All-Stars game that I played back in 2002. But let's not turn this into a CFE thread, I was just using an example of honest-to-god milking, where reliance on old material turns into an excuse not to bother creating a good game.

There was a Mario Tetris as well. And Mario paint.

thanks. I didn't want to read through all the pages, because I expected a giant flame fest for mario in another 3rd party game.
First-party, actually. (I refer you back to my earlier comment about reading.)

question: is there a good ps2 to cube converter that doesnt have any lag?

i've got the xjoybox for xbox, and playing ultramix 2 with it, despite ultramix being ultralenient, still fucked with my scores. just curious if there's a better product to hook up to the cube. because i REALLY can't see using the gamecube controller to play this, and i'm sure the chances of someone making a metal pad just for cube are pretty slim. (and softpads blow)

I like this news... it shows nintendo is trying to keep good relationships going with 3rd parties, it can only be good in return for the Revolution
