Didn't watch WWE for like years but I remember hating his role and acting. Good for him for putting his health above anything else.

Sad news, as he is a great performer. Will never forget his amazing Wrestlemania 30. With his injuries, its probably for the best though. Guess its all Roman Empire from now on :(

-HHH/Mcmahon vs Reigns promo number 412
-Ride of the Valkyrie comes on
-D-bry comes out to announce retirement
-HHH/Mcmahon call him a big smelly willy
-Running knee
-Reigns is laughing
-Running knee to Reigns
-This belt belongs to me yes! yes! yes!

Come on we all know that is how it's gonna play out tonight. ;_;

Gimmick posts like these are why WrassleGAF got nuked.

Nice to see the usual gimmick posters just can't help themselves over in the Daniel Bryan thread. Some carnies never change.

Now I see why you're so aggressive to defend your community thread. Why engage people with dissenting opinions when you can just scurry back to your community safe zone and do it from there? You know, that place where everyone's views and opinions are perfectly unanimous lest they be ostracized and bullied by the group at large until they either relent or leave.

I hope you and your friends are successful in steering this thread towards it's correct course.

wat?

Daniel Bryan was arguably the best in ring talent from 2012-2015 when given the chance. He would have been the top of the company if they didn't fuck with his push or get a shitty timed injury. Show me a wrestlemania where the crowd went ape shit when their hero won the gold. That has been lacking from wrestlemania for years. Dude was over as fuck.
He was arguably even more of a talent before his prime WWE heyday when he racked up an unprecedented string of Most Outstanding Wrestler awards from the Wrestling Observer from 2006 through 2010. No other performer has won more than 3 total (Flair, Liger, Angle). He is quite simply one of the most gifted technical wrestlers in the history of this industry.

Bryan was one of the reasons i got into wrestling and one of the reasons i kept watching even when everything else on the show was shit. Sad to see him retire but if it's for medical reasons (and assuming it's not a work) it's for the best. Don't wanna see the dude turn into Angle

Lmao. I don't think Bryan has the acting chops to pull off something this wonderful, but it would be nice see him try.

His retirement will somehow be blamed on Reigns.
I've already seen someone on Twitter tell Sheamus to kill himself for 'ending Daniel Bryan's career'.

I have never, ever seen what some of you see in this dude, to the point that you're not going to watch if he's not there.

He's your usual above average former indie workhorse. He doesn't have a particularly interesting move set or promo ability. He's a guy. CM Punk had everything this dude has plus a silver tongue and a built-in gimmick that allowed him to go further as a heel than anyone else.

You are WWE. Literally dozens of former wrestlers have died early deaths from prescription drug abuse, trauma and suicide. You have a team of Doctors and a lead physician, who have strict directives and checks they need to hit before they can clear a wrestler. Your lead physician says "I'm not clearing this guy, and I probably never can" and three other random doctors say "Sure, he can go". What do you do?

You listen to your Doc, who is specifically equipped to make this call. You play it safe.

They would love for him to be healthy. They've been hit hard for injuries and having a guy as over as Daniel Bryan would be a huge relief to them, I'm sure. It is what it is.

This is a WWE that still trots out walking concussions like Tommy Dreamer and Rhino on the regular and have guys like Ziggler land on their head night after night. They dont give a fuck.

Due to lawsuits hanging over WWE from ex wrestlers and the blowback their doctor is getting from his questionable history with the NFL concussion stuff they are playing it super safe and Daniel Bryan is the sole poster boy of "Hey look. We care about our guys health".

In the end, it's probably for the best. For his health I hope he stays retired. I will say I am glad I got to see him wrestle in person at once, at WM last year.

Or perhaps Daniel Bryan is THAT badly hurt, and putting your head in the sand in a 'no, let him keep wrestling' fashion' genuinely terrifies some of us.

Look, I'm sorry some wrestler you like can't wrestle anymore. That's terrible for you. But some of us would rather the guy get out now before he becomes another Dynamite Kid story. Because nothing in life is worth destroying your body over, certainly not fucking wrestling.

Goddamn.

Sheamus' twitter mentions are terrifying right now. In what way was this his fault?
This is what happens when "classy" WWE fans get too invested in a terrible product.
Your typical WrassleGAF regular has nothing on these miscreants. They make the rest of humanity look bad simply by existing.

Dude is without a doubt one of the all time greats. I guess I knew this was coming but like many others always held out hope that somehow, someway he'd be able to get back in the ring :-(

The ending of WM30 will always be my favorite wrestling moment. Thanks DBry.

The fans should be championing the WWE for erring on the side of caution here. They could easily "clear" him and continue making money with a very popular, compromised athlete.

Instead, many have worked up this idea in their heads that their enemy, WWE, is just trying to hold their favorite wrestler back, just don't want him around anymore. They just don't want those fans watching, attending, and buying his merchandise because it doesn't meld with their story lines or for some other extreme twist in logic. Simply bizarre.

Horrible news. At least he had to have his dream in having one of the most memorable Wrestlemania moments, it's just such a shame how badly things went to shit after it.

I'm not trying to steer anything, but thanks for the hardcore projection you've brought to the table.

Reading the headline on the dirtsheets made my heart drop. This makes me fucking sick. IT'S ALL DUE TO ROMAN. 3-4 doctors cleared Bryan including NFL concussion doctors BUT ROMAN HAS TO GET OVER. Fuck this stupid fucking company and this dumb fucking hobby i wasted so many hours on. Fuck off vince and hhh you fucking cunts.

I would think it's true than, It seems to me like an Edge type situation, where if he doesn't retire, it's going to affect his long term health.

It sucks either way.

Not really it seems like a forced WWE retirement he's had 3 doctors outside of the WWE clear him from his concussion problems its just that WWE doctors will not clear him they are treating him like they treated Christian they are pretty much forcing him to retire because they will not let him wrestle and will not release him from his contract. Edge's situation was pretty dire his neck is in bad shape. He had the same surgery that Nikki Bella just got and his neck was so bad it deteriorated to the point of one more bump and he could die in the ring. One more concussion and I think Dolph Ziggler could be added to the same as Bryan and and Christian. This type of stuff is just gonna cause some performers to hide concussions.

I'm sure if he was healthy WWE would clear him. If they wanted to bury him they wouldn't offer him commentator or tv gigs. It's possible he really isn't healthy and WWE is being more cautious than "NFL concussion doctors".

Was in the middle of a workout when I got a notification on my phone about it. Completely killed my mojo. Fuck this cruel Earth.

The fact that Triple H, Vince, and Steph haven't actually tweeted about it make me hope it's a work. Then again, if it's real, they could be going over documents to make sure he's not in Lucha Underground or NJPW in two months.

Never have I wanted something to be an in-poor-taste work than this.

Imagine its a work.

What happens if he gets injured?

WWE looks like they dont care about concussions and makes them into opportunistic storylines.

Too much bad press. It's really over :(

Dont get me wrong.

If WWE wants to do a better job with how they take care of the talents well-being thats great. I just think is them just trying to look like they care which is a lot different then actually caring. If they actually cared guys like The Undertaker, Tommy Dreamer and a bunch of others would never be allowed to wrestle in a WWE ring again.

Its all part of the messed up double faced image the company has. Like how they do anti bullying ads while making fun of fat people on TV and humiliate whatever female wrestler looked at someone backstage sideways this month.

Guess I'll be watching Raw in the morning then. Hoping it's a work, but if not, want to be watching it anyway.

Don't you ever compare a superstar in Daniel Bryan to an internet wrestling geek role model again. Bryan would cut it in any era, Punk wouldn't.

Big Dave suggests that the most recent tests revealed something neurologically troubling, and that's why Daniel Bryan is no longer contesting the diagnosis.

Elite university doctors and NFL doctors. We're not talking about Daniel Bryan hipster vegan alternative medicine doctors. This is a fucking SCAM. It's all about Roman. The announcer gigs mean nothing...it's just a way to save face.

From Meltzer:

On Thursday before Rumble he had more tests. That's where story ends. DB talking stems from these tests. Timing tests. These are the tests that look at all different parts of brain. Melty discussed these before.

Got them back January 28th.

So these tests probably led to this decision. To bad he can't have a retirement match though.

His retirement is on ESPN right now and I do not think ESPN would like being used as part of a work

He's easily one of the best in-ring wrestlers of all time, looking at his entire career.

Sounds like he saw something he didn't like at all. Or he's just done dealing with it.

Brock literally worked the shit out of them the week before Mania

But yeah I doubt they'd be ok with that

The hilarity behind this is that Daniel Bryan's such a nice guy he'd probably shake his head at his 'fans' tearing down someone who's got fuck all to do with this.
