Sad news, but expected. When the WWE wouldn't clear him, writing was on the wall then. It's a shame he was booked so shitty, dude could have made himself and the company big money had they constantly not tried to hide him in the card.

The build up to WM30 and the whole Daniel Bryan Yes movement is what got me back into watching wrestling regularly for the first time in probably a close to a decade. (There were some really dark times in the mid-2000's. I remember tuning in once and seeing that God awful 'Spinner Belt' and thinking 'Wrestling will never be interesting to me ever again'.) With all the injuries at the moment and the failed Reigns push I really fear for where the WWE is headed.

Oh well.. at least we get to fully commit to AJ Styles now, right?

All the dream matches we'll never have.

Bryan vs. AJ
Bryan vs. Zayn
Bryan vs. Owens
Bryan vs. Itami
Bryan vs. Nakamura
Bryan vs. Lesnar
Bryan vs. Balor
Bryan vs. Joe

Fuck. I'm so bummed. At least they can't take Wrestlemania 30 away from him.

I look forward to having that beard in the UFC flyweight division.

I wish the UFC would just start a carny division where retired or willing pro wrestlers, athletes, and any charismatic talent can fight each other.

Well at least wrestlegaf will be happy. They finally got their wish.

I for one, am heartbroken/
convincing myself it's a storyline swerve and we get D Bryan wrestling at Wrestlemania.

Reading the headline on the dirtsheets made my heart drop. This makes me fucking sick. IT'S ALL DUE TO ROMAN. 3-4 doctors cleared Bryan including NFL concussion doctors BUT ROMAN HAS TO GET OVER. Fuck this stupid fucking company and this dumb fucking hobby i wasted so many hours on. Fuck off vince and hhh you fucking cunts.

Am I being worked right now?

That chair to the skull was the effective killshot of the B+ player's career.
The chair never hit Bryan's head. Triple H is a pro. He hit the ring post and Bryan sold it.

They're really going all in on this work huh?

I KNOW RIGHT ROMAN'S GOING TO SUPERMAN PUNCH BRYAN AND CUT A PROMO.

'All you fucking filthy disgusting moob hippies who love Daniel Bryan WATCH AS I GROW SO STRONG over his broken body. CAUSE I'M SO STTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.'

I have never, ever seen what some of you see in this dude, to the point that you're not going to watch if he's not there.

He's your usual above average former indie workhorse. He doesn't have a particularly interesting move set or promo ability. He's a guy. CM Punk had everything this dude has plus a silver tongue and a built-in gimmick that allowed him to go further as a heel than anyone else.

His promo ability is fantastic: arrogant heel, tantrum throwing heel, comedy heel, comedy face, underdog. He played all of these perfectly.

When he's mad, you know it because his promos show it. He yells, sounds genuinely angry, and gets the crowd worked up. He gets worked up.

Sure, his post-Mania face stuff was weak, but seemed much more like WWE creative doing their vanilla face stuff. We know he can be great on the mic.

He's naturally likeable. The crowd eats him up and he carries a lot of weight because of it.

And most of all, he was genuinely, really, an underdog who was being held down by the authority.

He's everything Roman Reigns is supposed to be right now, but he's actually a damn good wrestler, actually likeable, and knows how to carry himself.

Not sure how he can be just an ordinary indie guy to you

On the one hand completely gutted, dude was so awesome. But I really hope this is just a real retirement, no work, no shit just have this just be the end. Don't want him to be another tragic story in the long list of tragic stories with wrestling.

Elite university doctors and NFL doctors. We're not talking about Daniel Bryan hipster vegan alternative medicine doctors. This is a fucking SCAM. It's all about Roman. The announcer gigs mean nothing...it's just a way to save face.

Please paste the excerpt of this. You're allowed to if it's just an excerpt and not the whole thing

You and everybody running with this conspiracy are embarrassing yourselves.

Gutted, I'll be taking solace in the fact that the events of Wrestlemania 30 managed to unfold the way they did, against all the odds we somehow got that big time Bryan moment and something the fans were fully invested in, no crowd mixed reaction, just pure dang elation for a change.

Bryan even saved my man Kane from falling back into inevitable jobberdom for around a year thanks to Team Hell No, which was god damn terrific I might add.

Who'd have thought that in 2016 Kofi would be the one flying highest in WWE out of this snapshot.

It's funny how people only ever seem to cite his generic face promos post-WM 30 2014 and in 2015 as proof that Bryan couldn't do promos.

He was vastly underrated as a talker, really. Even in NXT 2010 he did some good ones, and that was he was being portrayed as the "vanilla midget". He was able to do serious (see mid 2013-WM 30), goofy (Team Hell No and his Dazzler appearances in the youtube videos) and was a great heel talker (his WHC run).
He's by far a better talker than a certain blue contact wearing person on WWE TV right now.

http://www.pwmania.com/backstage-latest-speculation-on-daniel-bryans-wwe-retirement-contract-status

As PWMania.com reported, Daniel Bryan announced on Twitter that he’s retiring due to medical reasons. This comes after Bryan recently requested his release but WWE officials told him he didn’t have the right to request it. Bryan reportedly asked for his notice so he could return to the indies, perhaps working ROH and NJPW, but Vince McMahon told him no. Bryan is in a similar situation as Rey Mysterio because the time he’s been out of action was being applied to his contract as an extension.

Bryan went to New York on the Thursday before the WWE Royal Rumble for more tests and according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, apparently that’s where the story ends, even though there were more tests planned. Bryan could explain more on what happened during RAW tonight. Meltzer also speculated that Bryan retiring is probably his decision, not something the company is making him do.

We know that at one point, Bryan was cleared by a doctor for the MLB’s Arizona Cardinals and then doctors at UCLA, but not WWE’s Dr. Joseph Maroon. Vince will not go against Maroon and the general feeling is that unless Maroon has cleared Bryan, the retirement is probably legit and not a swerve.

Huh.

Glad he's thinking of his health. He's undoubtedly got a ton of money and a beautiful wife to share the rest of his life with!

I was not a fan though. I don't like his character at all, that whole yes movement thing and him at the top of the card headlining mania and everything during that run that year was almost enough to make me stop watching wrestling altogether. He is an amazing wrestler but had a terrible look, was awful on the mic, and was a charisma-vacuum.

I hope this post is a work. If he was a charisma vacuum, how in the hell was he capable of getting over, by himself, EVERYWHERE he worked?

You might not like him but clearly a shit load of fans actually did.

Kofi is planning to retire as soon as the New Day run is over. He knows he's never getting a meaningful singles push in that company.

Cody should be the last one standing. Although I'm not sure it's a complete lock between him and Ryder. Ryder will stick around to live his dream in any capacity as long as WWE will have him.
They're both still young at 30 so it's probably too soon to declare a winner.

You like me, you really really like me!
Something smells fishy about this whole thing. We all know ratings have been in the tank recently and Vinnie Mac isn't above a work of this magnitude.

I'll wait to see how this plays out...

Man that is so sad. Was really hoping this was a work but it almost assuredly is not. I don't know if it's worth buying a ticket to Raw just to be able to hear him in person, but I'm definitely contemplating it.

Posters keep calling other posters out on gimmick posting but I'm confused about whose gimmick posting and whose not gimmick posting and now I think I've swerved myself. These threads are always so confusing.

Sad to see Brian retiring :( I was hoping he'd somehow find a way back but it never looked likely.
