Dante's Inferno is actually really GOOD!

But two of the best boss fights of the game were the big ones. If I recall I only remember one small boss in Dante's Inferno.
 
Oh man,is it just me or someone here dared to say that GoWs combat can be compared to NG ? :lol :lol .. not even fucking close my friend :lol. If you wanna compare stories however :D , Yeaaah NG sucks :lol

I totally agree. I'm REALLY interested in this game after I heard about this, but what the hell is up with those challenges ? I watched Giantbomb's quicklook and man that was horrible.

Having fun with a game is synonymous for good gameplay. I don't understand what your definition of gameplay is? Maybe the same as the majority of the industry: putting too much useless interactions (collect-a-tons, pointless "combos", useless modes, unnecessary difficulty, lack of difficulty, pointless storylines). Gameplay is meant to be polished so people have fun. Gameplay shouldn't be anything else.

Story =/= gameplay
Visuals =/= gameplay
 
Didnt god of war 3 and dante's inferno almost have the same bosses? Really I noticed some bosses in god of war 3 that I have also seen in dante's inferno like the flaming demon.

That isn't entirely true.

Some people have fun with stories and giant action-y scenes; If not we wouldn't have great literary classics or blockbuster flicks, respectively of course.

It's possible for people to trudge though shitty gameplay just because they are THAT invested in a story
; though I am of the "99% of stories are shit" state of thinking there are stories that interest me in games even if I do think they are terrible.

I personally put gameplay first, but there are other factors.

What in the hell? If you're looking for good stories, read books or watch films. I'm dead serious. Games are the only mainstream medium in which quality is measured by how well the interactive elements engage the audience. Artistic and intellectual merit are secondary. If Bayonetta has great combat that isn't significantly tarnished by technical flaws, then it succeeds as an action game regardless of your idiosyncratic standards.
 
I just downloaded the Dark Forest DLC. A bit too short and the whole thing revolves around a particular type of puzzle. Wish there was more added to it but I guess you can't expect too much for 400 MS points.

Have you seen the threads started by icecream? Perhaps those games would be right up your alley - many of them are nothing but story and plot, and I'm sure at least some of them are pretty good!

Yeah, I agree with the title of the OP. I had a really good time with Dante's Inferno. The Virgil conversations were pretty cool, I liked going back and forth between scythe and cross, and it pretty much depicted Hell awesomely. Enjoyable game.
 
I know this game got mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed it. I passed on the prequel level, but am looking forward to trying out the Trials of St. Lucia.

Unknowingly I actually bought the Divine Edition copy, so I have a code to redeem. So I can't wait to give Dark Forest a try tonite.

What I wish for the Trials of St. Lucia DLC
- New character (confirmed)
- More costumes (so far the costumes are crap)
- Ability to choose bosses as enemies in the level creator set. I'd love to fight 2 deaths at once
 
This game was decent. The locales were really cool and interesting -- the enemies were mostly kind of neat, but some of the gimmicks got tiresome fast, like needing to absolve everything to get holy souls, so I wore out my fingers mashing b. :| The combat was horribly broken, allowing you to just spam the cross once it was powered up to win most battles. I was disappointed overall, I think, because this was a "god of war" clone done by the same team which created Dead Space, which was written off as "RE4 in space".

Again, solid. But for me, it just served to fill the gap until GoW3 released. Glad I 1000/1000 the game before I got my hands on GoW3... (man, those gates of hell challenges? more annoying than challenging. :()
 
don't quote me on this, but I don't think many of the creative leads that worked on Dead Space worked on Dante's.

Started replaying DI after finishing God Of War and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (on Warrior, slowly working through Mentor and loving it at the mo). It still holds up really well. Atmosphere out the wazoo, excellent music, FANTASTIC art direction, I could go on and on about the aesthetics and how pleasing it is. Getting Wayne Barlow to do designs was genius, and the composers really seem to know their shit, based on the documentaries, using discordant modernist elements in the music to sow a disconcerting atmosphere.

However what I really love about the game is the combat, it's so...simple and elegant, very much in the vein of Castlevania. A wonderful palette cleanser. The pace is fantastic of the hits, everything reacts well, the countering system is incredibly satisfying, the magic is interesting. For a game that's supposed to be unoriginal it *feels* like it's own thing. The weapons have a totally different, and unique, heft and weight to them. A really underrated gem. The one bad thing I can bring myself to say about it is that there's not enough bosses and the combo counter resets too quickly (although this mostly seems to be if you use moves that have a large cooldown animation so may well be by choice).

I just finished the game yesterday after powering through it. While I'm not on the "hate it just because" band wagon, I really think you're overplaying the combat.

I just leveled my holy tree and spammed crosses for at least half the game. Once I got that relic that prevents cross power interruption it was pretty much game over. I understand the sentiment "well then change up the way you play!", but it's really hard for me to just purposely handicap myself when I know there is a simpler and highly more effective way to kill pretty much everything. I went through entire sections of the game without having to utilize my scythe with the exception of QTEs.

The set pieces are good, the music and atmosphere is good. The enemies are interesting for the most part. I think I had fun playing through it. I'm not totally sure yet, though.

It struck me as a solid weekend renter. I love hack and slash, but haven't played GoWIII or Bayonetta yet so I can't make comparisons, nor would I want to.

What I have done in the past though is spent a semester studying Commedia, and this fake literary rage that the internet in general has about what EA has done is embarrassing. The story is most definitely a bastardization of the poem, but welcome to art. How long have you people existed on this earth to not realize everything gets pushed down the garbage disposal and regurgitated. This isn't new, and championing this title as the downfall of creativity in gaming is such wanton hyperbole it is pathetic. I would wager one out of every thousand internet warriors that got up in arms about the use of the story has even cracked it open.

On the other hand people complaining that it's just a blatant rip off of GoW have a pretty god damned solid leg to stand on. It's like they used tracing paper for the design, and just made far more boring boss fights.

TL;DR Not as bad as most people wanted it to be, but apparently not as good as others think it is.

Well bloody said. This needs to be said in every DI thread. ALL ART IS CONSTANTLY AND CONSISTENTLY ASSIMILATED AND REPACKAGED BY THE COLLECTIVE CONCIOUSNESS. It's the goddamn basis of postmodernism.

As for the cross: I found it dull to use and since I play the game for excitement I used what I found exciting. But yes, pressing circle for 8 hours would suck. It's useful as a combo linker and as a stun weapon to open up enemies on higher difficulties though.
 
I actually liked the demo BECAUSE it ripped off God of War so blatantly.

I mean hell, if you're going to create an action game that borrows from another one, might as well be the best one.

It's a great God of War option for those who don't own a PS3 especially. Which is probably why I didn't bother with it.
