Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Is there some weird trick to getting a stable framerate? I get a lot of drops to 15-20fps. Blighttown was especially bad, but it happens all over to a lesser extent. The weird thing is that my CPU and GPU are both sitting well under 100% utilization, so I have no idea what the game is being bottlenecked by.

Finally got the game and the fix is incredible. However the hud occassionally popups back up to 100% size (from my 75% selection) and I still see the icon background effects when selecting a sword or whatever where those icons used to be (I have weapon icons set to 0). What is the best way to go about fixing that?

Well, this is a little out there buuuut.

If you use the Helixmod 3D fix for Dark Souls, it has a built in HUD resize that works great and doesn't seem to have any of the glitches that DSfix does.

The only downside is that the toggle to disable the HUD no longer works, so you'll always have the HUD on, but it will be perfectly resized and work exactly as it should.

I get some bad screen tearing when 60FPS is enabled, otherwise it runs fine. Any way to fix this, or does it have to do with my PC specs not being high enough? And there's no way to set the FPS at, say 50 or whatever, is there? Never mind, saw the option just below FPS enabling.

Get D3DOverrider and activate triple buffering.

(you can set the framerate you want in dsfix.ini)

I'm ok with that sacrifice, thanks a ton.

If you're using a radeon GPU, in catalyst control center try turning all of the AA settings to max and overwrite application settings, otherewise my gpu stays in low power mode or something

Yup, Radeon. I'll have to try that tonight, thanks!

I also saw someone mention a few pages back to try unlocking the framerate and locking it to 30 using DSfix, I'll give that a shot too.

I really want to unlock to 60, but I don't think my CPU will be up to the task, and I'm afraid that the taste I get of 60 fps will spoil me and make going back to 30 fps too painful.

Are these the directions I should follow for combing the HUD fix with Durante's fix? Like the resolution fix they are referring to is Durante's and renaming Durante's .dll isn't going to screw things up?

How to install RESOLUTION MOD with Helix's Dark Soul 3D VISION fix
-------------------------------------------
Install resolution mod.
Rename resolution mod's d3d9.dll to res.dll
Install Helix's Dark Soul 2 3D Vision Fix
Open dx9settings.ini in notepad.
Under [general] tab add the following line(Change install directory to match your own.

ProxyLib = C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA\res.dll

File should read(if install directory is the same).
[General]
ProxyLib = C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA\res.dll
UseEndScene = false

Save.Exit.Play

You don't have to follow those instructions anymore.

Just install both normally. Durante edited DSfix so that it wouldn't conflict with d3d9.dll mods anymore.

So Namco still hasn't officially fixed this? I am kinda interested in importing a physical copy of the PC version, do they all include the art book, cards and DVD?

You should just buy it through amazon if the physical items aren't of huge importance.

If you just use a US address when you purchase you can buy a key from anywhere, and I believe it's on sale right now.

My menus are suddenly blurry, and I'm not sure why. Nothing in-game is.

Probably your DoF resolution is the same as either your main rendering resolution or your presentation resolution. I really should add a check for that.

Fixed it a few minutes ago. That's exactly what it was. Misread the ini as saying the DoF resolution shouldn't match the rendering resolution, and assumed that to be internal, not viewing. I was downsampling from 2560x1440 and had my DoF set to 1080. Fixed!

Durante, have you looked into the Helix 3D fix mods HUD fix and seen if theres anyway you'd be able to implement it similarly into DSfix?

The helix fix doesn't resize and shows boss health bars correctly.

I love the 3D mod, but whats weird is that I have to load the game once, exit and load it again from the main menu.

The UI is the normal large size and the target recticle sticks to the health bar. After I reload, it shrinks and moves to looking normal, and my target now sticks to the monster I am targeting.

Hmm that is weird, I've never had that issue. computers man.

Does anyone know, why i can't seem to open d3doverrider. I mean it shows in the task manager in the processes tab, but the application itself doesn't open, so i can't change anything. I've tried to close the browser, restarted and still nothing. Last time i had it installed, i don't remember having any problems, other than first time it just took some time before it opened.

This happened to me a few months ago. I ended up re-installing Windows and it ran until applying one of the recent Windows updates. Have not been able to run D3Doverrrider since.

sorry I can't contribute any solutions to the requests here, I actually have a non-issue. I've noticed that when I down sample (high internal res low presentation res) everything is darker than when I don't down sample. I tested a little bit to see if one of the other settings like ssao had any effect but I haven't managed to lighten things up (in game brightness doesn't work either ) so for the moment I'm just not down sampling.
Does anyone have any tips for this situation? my native res is 1920x1080 if that helps.

Oh crap. Game won´t start with the framerate unlocked :(

Gtx 580
310.90 drivers
dsfix 2.0.1
Win7 64

The game starts fine with the framerate option untouched. When i enable it the game just
won´t start, no error message or anything. Something i might have missed?

Is there any way to play the game with the fix in windowed mode? Whenever I try to, the menu won't load properly. I can hear the sounds and select stuff, but it won't go further than that. Any help?

I'm having issues with getting the fix to work I'll move the DS.ini make my adjustments in it and everything looks the same when I start the game. Help would be much appreciated. Where is this d3d9.dll file I'm supposed to put into the data folder?

You moved all the files in the zip file into the DATA folder? Is your firewall blocking access to the DINPUT8.dll? The files that need to be moved are: DSfix.ini, DSfixKeys.ini, DINPUT8.dll and the folder "dsfix".

Sorry if this has been asked and answered 100 times before this, but the game runs at near 60 most of the time, but whenever I move the mouse at all it locks itself back at 30. It fixed itself a few times, but I couldn't figure out what did it. Any idea what's doing that?

Are you using the mouse fix?

I don't think my fire wall is doing anything to the game. I've copied those files over made some tweaks in the ini and the framerate is locked at it normal 30 with dips and the textures look like blurry balls I'm about to just give up and play it vanilla.

Take a screen shot or use the snipping tool so we can see how you have the install directory set up.

Also make sure you DOF resolutions arent the same as either your internal resolution or the display resolution.

Also getting some bad screen tearing at 60 fps. i5 2500k, 4.2, gtx 670 here. Is there an option in the fix to enforce v-sync, or do I have to use D3D overrider?

If anyone is willing to help me I'd be forever appreciative!

I just can't seem to get this to work. I don't get what I'm doing wrong. I know I'm probably an idiot but I just can't seem to figure out what I've done wrong.

I unzip the file. Moved the entire contents of that zip into the dark souls DATA folder. Changed the settings to where I wanted them in in dsfix thing and then turned the game on and character creation screen and stuff all looks the exact same. What am I doing wrong? Is there a step I missed? Do I need to delete some other files? Do I need to move certain things from one folder to another? I searched for step by step youtube videos and screenshots of what the folder should look like and I've come up completely empty. Any help would be appreciated.

Post up the settings you used in DSfix and I'll try and help.

I'm in the same boat I've left it on the default settings in the Dsfix.ini. Which the framerate default is at 60 limit and I still get top based on fraps high end thirty with 15 dps every so often. All I want is proper 1080 and 60 fps. Not that I'm complaining because I'm still playing the game vanilla and loving it.

Just started playing and I'm getting this weird double render glitch going on when I rotate the camera to certain angles. It was going nuts during the first in-game cut-scene, lot of purple void areas too.

EC2BCCECD95737B0DC8C66B768E577665F82984C

Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, fixed it. Think it was to do with the DoF Pyramid setting.

Fuck. I just blindly dropped DSfix in my folder and was like yayfullres. Only after 80 hours and one and two half games in am I learning that there were such neat things as skipping intro logos, borderless fullscreen window, and, oh yeah, framerate unlock. Somehow I read enough to know to turn off AA in the settings but nothing else.

How do I unlock the framerate? It's locked at 30fps with no dips according to FRAPS.

In DSfix.ini, find the framerate unlock setting and change it to 1. When I was using v1.9b, it crashed my game on startup, but I updated to v2.0.1 and it works fine now.

Hello everyone,

i have a graphic glitch to report.

When i use DOF override, some elements, like snow footsteps or water ripples, present bad-pixellated rendering.

Here some pics:

Any ideas to remove this problem? I want to use DoF Override, but this glitch is annoying...

This is my configuration:
Intel core i7 975
EX58-UD3R
8g Ram
AMD HD 6970

Thanks for helping :-)
