VERY against the rules. These places I won't even post the full initials to them publicly. Let's just say a lot of crackers, programmers, and release group (scene/top site) people hang out on these sites.
I'd love to see a option that swaps the gestures from Demon's into Dark, as well as the backstab, riposte animations from Demon's. If the hitbox windows could be perfected it would eliminate the "being sucked into a backstab" and could make backstabs a lot harder and more technical to pull off with certain weapons. Minus any lag of course.
Literally everything you wish to see done is impossible.
Just because you can fiddle with some data on your end, that it will effect the other client.
Getting the Demon's animations to work within the Dark Souls game and attaching them to the model is far from trivial. In fact, everything you just listed would take a ridiculous amount of man hours.

Yeah, I know. I was just wishing upon a star, but this guy already changed the backstab and riposte animation in the game, just fucking with it for a few hundred hours... I'm sure it's possible to do what I've said through a mod of some sort. But prolly not gonna happen. Unless Durante explicitly wants his help fixing DSFix's issues and improving it, you'll likely never hear of him.
Edit: A semi-looking Demon's Riposte has been achieved, estimated 300 man hours of learning the code and implementing and testing. I asked. Anyway, the guy is nuts, he added a totally new fighter to SFIV and totally changed animations and timing of many characters to his liking. And uploaded the mod, and it works! Plus, he claims he's porting the XBLA version of Ikaruga to PC with a full 1080p HD makeover to everything. Say's the replay data will only take up 100GB on his server. Don't expect a Steam or public release though. This crap is for these high exclusive sites only, many whom host content on FTP, your IP needs to be allowed inside and you can only download a certain amount based on user class.
So Im a complete Dark Souls noob, anyone want to play with me in co-op once I get to the point where I can enable it, so see me fail at life in this game? jaja
Also, any other good mods besides DSFix that you veterans recommend?
Also, any SweetFX presets are broken as well, even with the new fix. They don't function like they used to at all, lots of dim blinking and weird issues. So just a heads up, hopefully that can be fixed as is was also.
Good thing I still had another copy of non-Steam Dark Souls GFWL-only (could still sign-in to my acc and everything) that wasn't touched by the update. Besides honestly running Steam alongside GFWL is a waste of resources with the exception of screenshots and in-game chat. Better to just run it through the .exe and GFWL for now....
FWIW the GFWL code that you have to enter in the retail version lets you redeem the game in Steam as well. So if you buy retail you can get both options.
I decided to restart Dark Souls, now that I got a new 7870 I had previously started but my Save Game got corrupted after about 5 hours of play..
I have some questions
1)Has the new patch broken all options of SSAO in DSFix?
2)
My screen is a 1680x1050. If I set the DSFix resolution to 1920x1080 am I downsampling already? Do I need to enable anything else?
I figured that out
3)I decided to use these mods as well: Revamped stat buff icons, high-res fonts, visble health bars.
Anything else that improves the usability and experience of the game, without changing the base experience and how it was meant to be played?
4)At some points (even not graphic intensive) the game seems to be stuttering, while it otherwise runs extremely smoothly (even in graphics intensive big places). Is it some sort of an innate problem of the game for the FPS to drop in some places?
5)Regarding FPS unlocker. I decided not to use it, after reading all the problems it may cause. But are those problems unsolvable? I would love to play the game in a higher framerate, but I don't want to break my game or get banned from GFWL, or not be able to play it online.
6)Does CPU play any significant role in the game's performance? I have a Phenom II X4 955, I think I should be able to enjoy the game fully with some DSFix eye candy, no?

3) I also used DSCfix to play some coop with a friend once in a while. Greatly improved the experience. Instead of placing a summon sign for about 1-15 min. It takes about 5-30 seconds now before he can see it.
4) I noticed slowdowns especially when sitting down at bonfires. But nothing that takes longer than a couple of seconds. If you don't unlock the framerate there can be slowdowns because of how the game handles FPS and animations... well you have to ask Durante for the exact explanation. As far as I understand it, with unlocked FPS and max FPS @ 30 you should have a smooth experience with no framerate drops and no bugs.
5) Use it. Noone, AFAIK, has been banned for unlocking the framerate. You can unlock it and then set max FPS @ 30 to have a constant FPS of 30 or you set it to 60. I played through the game 3 times with FPS @ 60 and the only problems I encountered were: I fell trough a floor once while sliding down a ladder, I got stuck (had to quit to the menu) about 5 times while sitting down at a bonfire.
I disabled all AA and render at 2560×1600 and it looks glorious. The slowdowns occur when I reenter the game after alt-tabbing (most apparent) and when I enter a new region. It is probably the game loading up stuff, but after that it runs smooth as butter! I will see if that remains after SSAO comes in the game again. Is there any more eye candy I can try?
edit: thx for the answers btw
edit2: once again I can't get past that damn
bridge taurus, I managed it with my second try last time, now it has been 5-6
The very recent patch is Steam only. If you install the game from disc, which will only have GFWL to update your game, it's not going to update to said patch. GFWL will only update the necessary patches which fixed the audio downmixing and such. You can still roll with DSfix 2.0.1 then.
You can however activate your retail code on Steam. But instal the game from disc to avoid the recent patch. The Steam patch doesn't seem necessary since it probably did nothing to the game.

You cant avoid GFWL. Even on Steam, it'll still have to load up GFWL and sign you in to play. For now at least. That'll hopefully change sometime soon.
Main benefit is just to have it with the rest of your games. Also, the main benefits of DSfix(unlocked resolution/framerate) will still work on the Steam version with the newest DSfix.
Ye the latest Steam patch totally works with the latest DSFix (2.1). The only functionality that is missing is any form of SSAO (game doesn't even have it natively). It basically makes the game a bit prettier, at the cost of some performance. I don't know whether there are plans to patch that in right now.

Some other features don't seem entirely right with the new patch (e.g. SSAO), but I won't have time for a more detailed investigation before Thursday next week at the earliest.

Not sure about your CPU but the game has problems with AMD cards running in low power mode, resulting in crappy FPS. Override application settings for DATA.EXE in Catalyst Control Panel. Slide all of the AA sliders to max, etc. It won't make an appreciable difference in the visuals (other than weirdly smoothing out the Steam and GFWL overlays), but it can help performance problems. Also enable unlockFPS in DSFix even if you're staying at 30fps.
Can anybody confirm or deny that the Helix 3D mod is still working like it did before the new fix? I never used it so I wouldn't know any differences, but want to try it out. But for anybody that used it before, is it any different now?
1) I'm playing the Steam version and I've installed DSFix 2.1, but when i start Dark Souls it seems to ignore the settings I've made in the DSFix.ini file. For example, I've set the resolution to 1920x1200 but the game starts in window mode (!) and a 1920x1080 resultion, the highest i can set in-game. Any ideas?
2) A few weeks/months ago I've read something about PvP/invading players that can reset your progress or something like that? Is this still a thing? If yes, can i do something about it when i still want to play online?
Hey guys, did the recent patch break hudless screenshot in DSFix? I seem to be having some trouble making it work. I've never used it before, so it could be that I'm missing something.
I have uncommented the line in the "takeHudlessScreenshot" line in the DSfixKeys.ini and changed the key to "VK_SCROLL", which should be scroll lock. I also changed the screenshot path in DSfix.ini to a folder that exists.
Am I missing something?

2. I've heard some reports that the most recent patch had some antihacking stuff in it. I haven't seen a changelog though. If you want to be on the safe side, you can find a mod that prevents the stat draining, it's called DSVFix on dark souls nexus.

I haven't checked it so far, but since it broke SSAO it most likely broke the entire way DSfix recognizes the different stages of Dark Souls' rendering pipeline, which would also break screenshots.

Ah, well. Then I'll just sit and wait patiently until you have the time to look at it and hopefully make it whole again. Thanks for your hard work man.
I just bought the game (finally!) on Steam thanks to the 75% deal. I've installed it but haven't run the game yet. I remembered that GAF had some fix for this game: is it still recommended to install this fix?

Alright I unlocked the FPS and set the limit to 30, but now I have plenty of tearing and before I didn't. Is there a VSync option somewhere in the game or in DSFix?

Hey guys, I started using dsfix and I unlocked the fps which stays at 60 but drops in fights etc and when it gets low to about 40, the fps caps at 30 fps automatically similar to pressing backspace to switch from 60 to 30 fps. But when I press anything on the keyboard or move the mouse the fps is unlocked again. Anyone know why this happening, or is this intended so the gameplay is smoother when fps drops. Thanks.
Quick question about texture overrides to anyone who might know, which one would be the preferred format, png or dds? I've only ever dealt with dds files in the past in regards to modding textures, any actual functional difference between the two in DSfix? Like, does one load faster than the other or anything like that?
I just released version 2.2, which restores full DSfix functionality for the latest Dark Souls update. It also adds a new AO method for graphics nerds and screenshotters to play around with

Just wanted to say that I tried the Helix 3D mod out and it worked fine with the last 2.1 update using the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit. Now onto try out DSFix 2.2. Thanks for all the hard work Durante, will donate my $10, again.
Hopefully all the SweetFX presets still work on 2.2 like they did on 2.0.1. That'll be my first test.

so i installed the driver pack and it said everything was fine. then windows said it was installing drivers for 360 controller. that lasted for a wierd 10 minutes then my internet stopped responding then i coudnt move anything on my computer. i waited a little bit longer and did a hard reset. not sure if it installed. :/
scp ds3 monitor up and running, showing the controller charging. im assuming its working. do i just go into the game now like normal ?
All you do is plug the DS3 into the PC with Motionjoy running, it auto recognizes it, and simply tick the option for Xbox 360 controller emulation. Also, I'd recommend setting a custom light flashing preset to 1, otherwise the damn lights just blink sequentially over and over, it's annoying.
Also take note that uninstalling Motionjoy can be a pain in the ass, and cause conflicts with the 360 driver on some PC's. They also need to add in Sixaxis support.
