Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition |OT| Durante Does In 23 Minutes What From Can't

Is there a way to kill the Gargoyles alone? Seriously. I had to use the summon sign to finally get through that area. An awesome dude just like the one that says "Praise the Sun" helped me destroy them. It felt like cheating though.
Yeah, all of the bosses can be done solo and that dude you summoned was an NPC. There's always one or two for each boss for people who can't find others to play with or would rather play by themselves and find it too difficult to do alone.

The drop attack is the same as the jumping slash? (forward + RT on the 360 gamepad). I actually climbed to the top of the tower to see if he would leave me alone, but the bastard jumped there and still kicked my ass. The main problem I have is once he throws me to the ground, I don't have time to get up before he strikes me again. And I can't get close and hit him, he always hits me first.

Right bumper is drop attack not right trigger.

Jump off as soon as you get to the top. Then ruN across the map and get him to chase you. Then when he is far from the ladder, tur and Roll past/under him and run to the ladder and repeat.

It's a different attack, just drop off the edge and hit R1 as you're falling

After that hits him, roll through/past his legs and repeat
Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I recall seeing it on a message in the tutorial. But as I never got to try it there, I totally forgot lol. Thanks, I'm gonna try it now (or maybe tomorrow, too much frustration for a day).

The drop attack is also the main trick to easily beating the Asylum Demon.

Three (or four if you havent really leveled/have low level weapon) drop attacks by themselves will take him from 100% health to dead. Throw in a few additional attacks and two wdrop attacks will probably be enough.

I can't beat him... Taurus Demon is too hard for me. And the sad thing is I have to choose between killing him or losing 4000 souls, because once I cross the white fog, it won't let me go back, and I need to cross if I want to recover my body.

I really suck at the game, I don't know how everyone else manages to get good at it. Won't stop playing, but I'm sure I'll never kill him.

This is the misery/joy of playing Dark Souls. It shows you that a thing is impossible, and then it compels you to conquer it anyway. You'll beat him.

So I totally played the tutorial wrong, I feel pretty stupid :( Thanks everybody for the hints, I'm gonna show that boss who's boss.

It's nice to see a game that wants you to learn and get good at it, instead of just simply running and slashing through anything you see. It's terribly hard, but also refreshing.

I can use them without risk of missing anything later on? I was saving every collectible, after reading some posts saying there are some items you should never use unless you're on the right spot or talking to the right NPC.

I wonder if these first time Dark Souls players were to play Demons Souls afterwards if they would find it easier or harder. I found Dark Souls a fair bit easier than demons, but I wonder how much that has to do with having played Demons Souls first.

I think Demon's is a much easier game, personally. That's even having played Demon's first.

SPOILERS BEWARE! (spoilered by request)

The game is seriously hard, but addictive at the same time (I need a new rig though, as with Durante's 0.4 patch I get a low framerate, even with the game's default DoF). I'll get you next time, stupid beast!

What I've done in situations where there's some sort of treasure guarded by a powerful enemy is just run for it, get it, and let the guy kill me. It's ok to do that in this game.

Hah, I had no idea that you could
go back to the asylum; some nice treats there on your return visit, too!

I strongly suspected that there was something fishy about the floor where you fought the first boss, especially since there was still something growling, so I avoided it for the time being. Good idea?

I know going back to Demons when they were going to shut the servers down a few months back I found it to be a total cake walk, although I played a lot of it coop with a couple of hyper mode mages and it was pure white tendency, so that made things a lot easier.

I played demon's first but overall I think DkS has more exploitable things and a lot of bosses you can just circle strafe around with your shield up, which makes it easier.

There is already people online with unlimited health, fucking sucks.
Invaded this guy in the forest he starts fighting legit, I backstab him does 0 damage.
He then just stands still as an acknowledgement while I slash him and it does nothing.
He finally whips out the Dragon King Greataxe and 1HKO me with its special attack.

From what I understand its also based on the same hack as the 360 versions cant believe they didn't fix that shit
before release, no excuses.

Maybe Namco/From will spend some of the money they made on this $10 port to patch in some legitimate anti-cheat code. haha

Wow playing this at 1200p makes such a difference.

Fought the Chaos Witch tonight, it's amazing to be able to clearly see her humanoid torso on the spider body. I've never really noticed the detail on Xbox. She always just looked like a blurry red spider.

It's a good idea if you don't wanna die, but you should probably check it out before leaving, it's well worth it.

Yeah I'm getting at that point as well. I know all his patterns by heart, I could probably obliterate him if I were to fight him for real.

Maybe his tail needs to take a certain amount of damages in a certain time? I do shit all damage (around 200 per heavy hit...) so I can't really put that theory to the test.

I gave up and just killed him. Total annihilation. Summoned a fella on the way in because I saw his sign on the ground and felt like showing off a bit. Hope he enjoyed the show as well as the free souls and humanity.

I finally managed to kill the Taurus Demon, using the drop attack. But he glitched at some point, and got stuck near the door, so I dropped his health to half before he unstuck himself. Now I feel like I cheated, though it wasn't my fault.

But then a dragon came out of nowhere and killed me with a single burst of fire, so that's the game cheating back and making it even :p

That's what those Dark Phantom banish stones are for. When asshats cheat like that they deserve the boot.

Make sure to run right (down the stairs) by the dragon. You can open a shortcut back to the bondfire.

Gahhhh, finally got invaded as a gravelord servant in Sens Fortress but got myself killed over something stupid. The restrictions on this covenant are too tight - it takes forever to actually get invaded and you can only use it in areas where you haven't already beat the boss. As nice as it feels to know that you're making the game hell for 3 other people, it's really not enough.

Man, I never regretted my choice of builds until I got to Bulk and Skull. That piddly little lightning spear +3 just is not doing it anymore.

Also quite depressing when I get invaded because everybody has more health and does many times my damage. THREE TIMES I finally managed to get a friendly phantom summoned for Penn and Teller only to have somebody run in and two shot me with god-knows-what before I could even fight back. Doesn't help that 99% of my summons seem to fail.

As far as I can tell, Fats and Smalls (and the silver knights also) are all resistant to lightning. I heartily recommend the use of fire against them, be it pyro spells, buffed or enchanted weapons.

I'm having the 99% of summons failing problem too, trying to co-op with my friend last night was driving us crazy, it was actually much easier on the PS3. Though like the consoles once we'd found each other it seemed fine until we had to restart at one point, then it took us forever to get back in the same shard (or equivalent)

I'll make sure to do that the next time I don't feel like losing a few thousand souls.

I think I know what waits down there, and I definitely don't want any of that.

What if the trick was to kill him by hitting only his tail?

Ugh reading all this makes me want to play Dark Souls again. But my 360 isn't hooked up because my TV's packed away and all I have unpacked is my PC, so I'm being sorely tempted to just say screw it and double dip and get the PC version on Steam as well.

Arrrrrrgh.

Also, and I have no idea what compelled me to ruin his day, but the
golden knight that enters the Firelink Shrine after you rescue him in the Parish just struck me as someone deeply sinister (not helped by the fact that he sits across from the fire keeper, who looks so defenseless), so I took him on and got a fancy ring out of the deal. Granted, it's a ring that will become useless if I ever take it off, but it's still a nice ring.

I probably just locked myself out of something, didn't I?

You have good instincts, he kills the firekeeper later and escapes back to his own world. You have to invade him and kill him and his two friends to get her soul back and revive her. You pretty much only missed out on that fight and his armor which you only get if you invade him to kill him. He's also summonable for a few bosses

You missed out on
his armor and a neat battle encounter that takes place later on

Yeah, I figured as much. Something to set aside for NG+, assuming I can figure out which direction I need to be heading in.

Sorry if anyone's day got ruined in anor londo by a black phantom. I must've invaded like 100 people today trying to climb up the darkwraith rankings

Quick question: is it possible to save your game without using the auto save feature? As in having multiple save games like the console version?

I no longer see the option to save at a bonfire. Tell me auto save is not the only way now...

This is ridiculous.

The only way is to autosave. It's to give you a feeling of finality and caution. If you kill an npc they'll never come back, and to prevent you from just saving in front of a boss so that if you lose your souls you can just revert instead of having to go back in and fight for them.

Eh? Were you ever able to do that?

Having a single save file per character is the whole point. :p
