Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition - Announcement Trailer | Releases on PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S on October 15th

When I played it the first time, the game seemed like a single player MMO. I was deep in a World of Warcraft addiction at the time and kind of dropped the game prematurely.

This is a good reason to try it again. I haven’t played World of Warcraft in a long time so looting stuff as a Forsaken seems fun again.

it has similar dungeon designs and puzzles.
but in-between all that they added a lot of IMO unnecessary padding.

they went all looter-shooter-like with weapons. so you constantly get new gear with slightly different stats and special effects on them. you can even find weapons that can be fed other weapons to combine abilities n stuff.

so, it's Darksiders mixed with Borderlands looting.

the core of the game is still great. the combat arguably better due to more combo and build potential. but a lot of unnecessary nonsense kinda muddied the waters a bit.

the worst part of the loot is the inventory management. which was one thing the Wii U port had going for it, as you could do inventory management on the GamePad screen.

I mean compared to a game like Nioh 1/2 the loot in DS2 is nothing ..

Im hoping it just has a delayed unlock time because mine still isn't showing up as Free.

Why are so many games unlocking at these odd hours now anyway? So annoying ...used to be 12 am for the vast majority of games

I have the actual original DS2. So no free update for me then? Too bad.

Jokes aside, wasn't Deathinitive Edition itself a free upgrade? If so, you should be able to get that for free and thus this for free but it's probably too late for that.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited to replay part 2. Last month I've replayed part 1 for the first time in like 12 years, and I had a pretty good time.
But I remember preferring DS2 back then, with its much more vibrant color palette, as well as having a more varied combat system and a GOAT-tier soundtrack score.

No physical?
Sadly not but honestly, a multiplatform single player game is probably best played on steam.
You're welcome, I played this game recently so now this happened.

This also happened to me w/ both TLoU1 & 2, as well as Silent Hill 2. Soon after I play it, a better version is announced.
What are you looking to start next? I just want to know what to avoid in my back catalog.

No free update here and I certainly won't be paying for it. Too bad.
They did mention in the PR that they'll give the owners of the deathinitive edition a free upgrade so it's kinda BS if they don't provide one.

Imma have to dig my old Darksiders 2 PS4 disc and see after work if I'm given a free upgrade path.

Note: If you already own Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition on PlayStation 4, you will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version when the game launches on October 15th, 2024.

Hmmm, maybe I have the PS plus version? It's been years so I can't remember. I could have sworn I bought it, but it could have been the PC version. Still, there should be some clarification.

Def doesn't show me a free upgrade. Shows me $29.99. altho I can't remember if I bought it or if it was PS Plus version. They should make that clear so you know what to expect.

I see the free upgrade now also..I bought the definitive version years ago, never played it cause I couldn't do 30fps anymore....I'm reading the description of the new upgrade and all that it does, but see no mention of 60fps.. if anyone who downloads and plays it, report back on framerate if you can.

Also got the free upgrade on the app but i'm at work so can't download, would be nice to see confirmation it's runs at 60fps, really weird they don't mention it anywhere.

Why is there no option to increase camera speed? Makes the game feel like 30 fps for me. Otherwise it looks pretty decent to my eyes.

Early comparison between PS5 and PS4 Pro:

Seems like a solid 60fps in this early segment.

Lighting is slightly adjusted - it's a little brighter and more vibrant overall, which I think looks better. Old version looks dim in comparison.

Some new particle effects - there are snow particles added here which I think look really nice, especially in motion:

Shadows are improved - see the blocky shadows under Death on the left are now smooth on the right. It mentions ray tracing, I'm guessing this is where it is implemented:

Some texture improvements are also noticeable - the floor above and the stone here:

Higher resolution/textures make the tree foliage look much better here:

My PSN app shows Free PS5 upgrade, because I own the Fury edition or whatever that PS4 duo pack was called. I bought it way back.

Yeah so you need to click on this PS5 upgrade app, its separate from the PS4 version and smaller in size too I think. It costs 0 bucks at checkout.

Its awesome.

The last time I beat this game was on PS3. And then I briefly played on PS4 being disappointed by its performance.

This version however is locked 60fps at 4k. I feel the art direction they chased really comes to life, its looking like the way they intended it. The camera and FOV are a bit more clunky than I remember but its a PS360 game at heart. Otherwise it still plays very well, good OST and VA. I might get into this world again.

EDIT: well scratch that about the locked 60fps. I am now in the Cauldron and it does chug there around the lava. I now fear for the Earth shooting level lol. It does look excellent I think but lets wait and see perf impressions.

Darksiders 2 still has among the best feeling combat of any western developed game.

I just love that you can go from a forward dodge into a launcher. I also completely forgot how satisfying the basic pause combo with the Scythe is.

I really have to replay this now. seems to run pretty well on Series X... but I haven't had my TVs refresh counter on while playing. at 120hz with VRR I didn't notice any framedrops outside of the I/O pauses you get when coming into a new area.

Amazing game, I love it. That being said, I tried the pc update which btw, you can access it as a beta branch so is not even released officially and I have gotten two crashes in ten minutes and on top of it, there is shader compilation stutter

This is a kick in the balls for pc players

Still doesn’t show me free upgrade just $29.99. Lame.
Are you on the West coast? You should see the free upgrade once PS Store refreshes in your region.

Edit: Or maybe you have the PS Plus version which is not eligible for this free PS5 upgrade.

Was thinking about playing Darksiders 3 on PC now I have a PC to do 4k high fps.
I was reading this thread on a browser not signed in to neogaf, and I read this post and thought "yeah me me to".

Then I realized it was me who wrote that comment in the first place 😂😂😂

OT, I'm gonna play this defo, I feel like an old style action game right now ☺️

So update is available for Steam via a closed beta, and its an absolute mess, controllers just flat out do not work at all, and if you manage to get it running with m&k it crashes as soon as you open the options. Absolute dumpster fire. May stick to the PS5 version becuase of this. I remember having a lot of trouble with the steam version when I first went through the game years ago.

Having 60 fps is a big deal for console players ability to enjoy this game since 30 fps made the jittery camera feel twice as bad. The game has a very weird auto camera thing happening that I had hoped would be gone in this update but maybe it's too ingrained into the games code. Either way i can finally mostly enjoy the game now. Looks great too. I love this game- music and style i get nastalgic vibes playing this.

PS-the framerate completely tanks as soon as you get to the Cauldron. Screen tearing too

Is the ray tracing on PS5 already? On PC, you gotta opt in for a public beta lol. The ray tracing isn't yet available.
