I couldn't post earlier but I read the worst movie of 2004 thread and I think about 80% of the guys on this forum mentioned THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW as one of the worst features this year.

I just wanted to say now " what did you expect from a R.Emmerich film?" But that said, I enjoyed it immensely for its B-movie + awesome visual effects. Seriously awesome visual effect. I bought the dvd the other day, watched it again and guess what? Still immensely enjoyed the movie. LA getting ripped to bits = AWESOME. DAT is probably my favourite Visual Effects showcase this year. (followed by Spidey 2 + Hellboy)

now.. if you said Van Helsing, I have to agree. POS

Some pics of an awesome awesome movie.

Although I didn't like the implication that only supergeniuses can survive catastrophes (as they were the only characters still living at the end of the movie-all of the 'common' New Yorkers ended up being cold stepping stones for Mr. Arctic Explorer-I liked the movie. I also liked the whole "immgration to Mexico" gag they had running through the film too

seriously, the best bits in the movie were the visual effects - the characters could have all died for all i care but the vfx sequences were the best all year (yes, even better than the spidey/oct train sequence) imo.

LA destruction

helicopter + freezing man

tidal waves destroying NY

and the best one.

SUPERFREEZE. Simply incredibly. The level of photorealism they achieved with the vfx is astounding. Not a single fake shot (except the dude falling to death in the mall).

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
The only part that looked faked to me where the wolves... they didn't move right for some reason..... and they just looked slightly off...but besides that love the VFX of the movie.... and I'm happy to know that if necessary I can outrun a superfreeze and burn all the books in my home to survive. ;)

Remove water and insert: Godzilla, alien energy wave or a dinosaur and you have every other disaster movie made.

Who ever gets tired of seeing NYC destroyed? Having strolled through downtown Manhattan many a day I sure don't...

remove water and insert sunny day + Julia Robert + handsome lead and you have every other romantic comedy about hookers made.

Your point?

Julia Roberts can inject a little more characterization into a character than some tech guy. In most cases, the natural disasters ARE the main characters.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
The main problem of that movie is that it was boring most of the time, which is a big no-no for a movie like that. Also uninspired, as it doesn't change a bit of the formula that as been repeated for years now.

I never mind the crackpot science theories in movies like this, and the effects were certainly very nice (those dogs were cheezy and obviously fake, though)

I tought this would be a thread about the digital audio cassette! :(
Haha, same here.

This movie was worth every penny I spent to see it (that is, nothing)...simply could not deal with the junk science and contrived plot.

And why would anyone hate on DAT? It's a fine way to record digital audio. :)
