Based on this, im going with the tank Sam B.

Though who would want that skill that further attracts zombies attention :O

it's for multiplayer. basically you draw aggro from the zombies so the rest of your party can kill them.

as for the patch, isn't there one on day one. i think i heard they have a patch ready to go.

What exact time does this unlock?

Midnight EST
11 PM CT
9 PM PST

Regarding the patch

I have my steam set-up to always notify me when something finishes downloading and I never received this notification so it hasn't been patched yet. Plus the file size is the same too.

Hopefully when it unlocks the patch is less than 50mb.

So if this doesnt unlock today and it ends unlocking like it says 3 days from now: then this is some new stuff Steam is pulling with South America and i dont like it at all, fuck.

I like Joystiq enough as a news site, but their reviews are frequently off the mark I find.

A buddy and I got our hands on 360 copies today, and played system link for about five hours.

It doesn't say anything about system link in the manuel, so getting everything going was a hassle. But eventually we found out that you can connect with another person while both playing solo (a prompt comes up saying that another player is close-by if you'd like to join them)

It plays a lot like a Bethesda game, in that you're working on usually one plot-related quest and picking up sidequests along the way. And there's a lot. Combat feels a lot like Condemned, but I haven't noticed much variation between weapon types. Quests are fun and varied, and it presents a really cool setting where you're engaging with people amidst the chaos constantly. It feels a lot like what a Walking Dead game should be. Everything looks fantastic and it's a real joy to explore the island, which is huge. You seem to unlock different sections as you advance the main plot. They make it super-easy to get around the island, whether it's by vehicle or fast travel, you're never really far from a fast option to another spot so nothing feels tedious.

That's all I got for now. We're about 5 hours in and still having a blast. I'll post more impressions later tonight if I can get more time in

Hour and Thirty till unlock.

Remember PC people, get into the steam group Dead Island chat room so we can pair up for co-op. Get in around 15 minutes before it unlocks.

So, is anyone else going to attempt to play a firearm-based build? I know ammo is supposed to be sparse, but I am interested to see how viable it will be.
yep i am, shooting off the flesh from zombie bones is the main appeal to me

dat damage model

Sounds good castlegar. So how difficult is the game so far and are there any options regarding difficulty? I am somewhat concerned the game will be too easy in Co-op. And what use is open world survival horror if encounters don't pose a challenge? I want to be taking a risk when wandering of to explore or doing some sidequests.

Thanks for making the wait that much harder :p

It sounds like ammo is really rare, so I'm hoping if I play it single player, hard, and specialize in guns, it'll be more survival horror than action rpg. The hoops I have to jump through to get my fix this generation.

Any word on controller vs. mouse and keyboard? info. on this game is still surprisingly hard to come by.

I was surprised by the hype this game has received. I had a ton of canceled reserves today because we weren't doing a midnight launch and we have a Meijer a block away.

For those that have played it... is anyone playing Logan so far? How is he? Is being a thrown weapon specialist fun? Does it work well?

This is Steam's screw up though, same thing with Dead Island and Space Marine, yet i recieved both keys in time and activated fine

The M.O.B said:
Salsa, you got it form GMG right?

What version did it say you had when you put code in steam?

NA for sure

and it shouldnt matter, what restricts the unlocking of the game is Steam itself, the only regional stuff that changes depending on where you buy it is if the game is censored or something

this is just Steam thinking im from pseudo-australia or something

OR adding some sort of extra release schedule for South America that games just dont speak about, cause its always NA/EUR/AUS and i always get the NA release since South America is still America. Always thought they managed it like that.

Steam just goes by what the publisher has them do, so if the pub wants a certain region to unlock at a certain time, that is what Steam goes by.

but the keys said NA

im pretty certain its Steam controlled. Reason why i didnt get the Deus Ex key in time for NA release was because they gave me the key on time for the European release. So holding on to the Steam key was the way of doing that, still in this case they gave me the keys right away ready for NA release.

Im sure that if i would to connect with a US proxy or something it would say "1 hour left".

doesnt matter actually.
think GMG Rob mentioned despite what the keys say, the game will activate for you based on whatever time it is to for you region.

just hope South America doesn't get a different release date from NA

Does anyone know the amount of skill points received per level? I know the level cap is 50. I've heard its 1 point per level, and possibly 2 every 5 levels?

Im guessing this is the case

but see, the trouble now is: games dont mention this anywhere

not on steam, not on wikipedia, etc. There's not such thing as a "SA" region release listed anywhere. Up until pretty much.. today, we always got games on the NA release :/

this is fucked up

Well yeah, that's because Steams release blocking is done via IP, doesn't matter where you got the key from.

I wish Steam/Valve shed some light in this unlock time zone issue, sometimes I've gotten the EU unlock timer and I'm in America and other times the timer just doesn't make sense for either time zone and fucks up everything.

I think it was for Borderlands that my timer was completely fucked up and it would unlock in 3 more days or something, I had to go through a VPN to get it to decrypt and play but I was forced to use it every single time I wanted to play until it came out in EU because otherwise Steam went from "Play Now" to "Pre load complete"

Someone needs to let Gabe know that Central/South America is STILL America! get your times straight!

How do you know who's supposed to be good at what? I remember one of the girls is supposed to be good with guns but other than that I don't really know.

That said I usually pick characters based on looks so I'd probably go with Logan regardless.
