Dead or Alive 4 new screens

I am still baffled by the amount of hate for the DOA4 graphics. I think it looks astonishing.

STAIR MONKEYS!

hello motion blur

the motion blur will look cool, but what effect it will have on competitive play remains to be seen!

GAF hates Itagaki.

GAF loves VF5.

Thus, GAF hates DoA4.

Is this one online like DOAU?

Yes. And there will be clan support for DoA4! :)

PLastic hair and plastic skin, not that impressive if you ask me. Zelda's character models look more life life then those action figures in DOA.

I think that it looks great for its art style, Team Ninja just needs to crank out and come with a competent lightning system, the game would look much better with some kickass shadows. Also, I'll go with Stinkles' stair monkeys.

I think what ruined this for me was the lack of lighting and self shadowing. The characters just don't look totally believable in their environments.
It still does look a nice step up from DOA:U

I would be concerned about this as well. Being able to judge how your oponent is attacking is crucial and blur seems like it would only make that harder.

Meh. If GoW has many characters on screen each one still looks twice as detailed as any of the DOA4 characters then something is wrong.

You say that likes it's a bad thing.

Look, nobody thinks that DOA has a better fighting system or more alleged subtlety than VF, but the characters are more charismatic and it is a fun, fun fighting game.

Creatively bankrupt graphically?

Funny because fun was about the last thing I had playing DoA3, or DoAU (DoA2 was alright for its time, but still not a patch on SC).

And breasts |= charisma. The only character with any charisma is Bass, and that's only because he's engrish cry of "it's-a showtime" has a certain unintentional charm.

I'm sorry but this just doesn't look like a generational leap over the Xbox DOA games. The models don't look lifelike, the animation didn't impress me from what I saw of the videos, and the lighting/shadowing doesn't look very spectacular. And all this in a game with only two on-screen characters and a (relatively) confined environment. I expected more from Team Ninja, to be honest.

Well with the power of the 360 I guess people were looking to more realistic looking big busted charecters. Now in High-def they look like Animanniqans(sp?).

But honestly looking at it in motion from the E3 film, it looks nice, but could still definitly look better. Hopefully that will improve with the final hardware.

Until a better looking fighter comes out I see nothing to complain about. It probably COULD look better if they re-did everything from the ground up but it's obvious they're just expanding on an already great looking game and engine.

DoA4 looks almost totally current-gen. in high-res, yeah, but current-gen.

Virtua Fighter X / Virtua Fighter 5 will be to DOA4
what NAOMI2 VF4 was to NAOMI /DC / PS2 DoA2

with that said, DoA4 looks good and I'll certainly be picking it up :)

So is what most of you people want for grapics next gen is to look as close to real life as possible? Doesn't that take out any artistic creativity? I don't think the girls of DoA are not supposed to look like real people and the backgrounds are beautiful! I don't really play DoA games but from what i see I can't complain about these shots

Character charisma/charm/style in order of coolness (3D figthers only):

Tekken
Soul Calibur
DOA
VF

And before anyone tries to claim VF - remember your lead guy is Karate Guy.

I can't see improvements from the E3 demo in these screens. On Monday they should show something new and more advanced.

God damnit shut the fuck up. You wouldnt know charisma even if you had any.

Touche! And I already said VF is the best fighting system, so shut your fuckin' noisehole if you don't have anything constructive to say.

That's kind of the problem.

If they aren't willing to use realistic lighting, shadowing, texturing, etc... then I don't know what they can improve on graphically.

Looks like the game was mostly done for the xbox 1 and then they moved it up to the 360. Hopefully it will become a more next gen looking title within the next few months.

Oh I'll give you that VF's roster has even less charisma but it has the gameplay to compensate.

I'd say DoA's biggest problem is the existance of the SC series. It's got better characters, a decent plot and deeper gameplay without losing accessibility.

Around the time of DoA2 the series was just about able to hang with the big boys in the top tier. Since then, VF has evolved and refined itself to an almost impossible degree, SC hasn't really evolved as much but maintains its position well. Tekken dipped dramatically, even to the point where I'd say circa Tekken4 it could not call itself a top tier fighter, but has managed to turn itself around and make a strong case for legitimately being considered with the Alpha-group. DoA has just stagnated and slipped out of its tenuous position in the top tier.

I agree completely. Best thing about DOA is the in-out, show off your HD set-ness. But it's still enjoyable (until any final boss in the whole series)

Got a link? I think "it looks better in motion" is going to be a common excuse next gen. And it's a good excuse too, because screenshots can't show cool stuff like HDR lighting or motion blur (in the case of this game).

Watched the trailer a number of times, and no, doesn't look much different in motion. The reason why a lot of next-gen games look much better in motion is because a lot of it is down to lighting and texture effects which don't come across in still shots. DoA4 doesn't use anything like that so the rather generic and generalised damages control cry of "it looks better in motion" doesn't apply.

And for people using the artstyle can't evolve anymore argument, I cry BS. Look at Team Ninja's own CG for an example of how much further the DoA style can evolve.

it looks good, but not that big a step from ultimate. self shadowing and/or unified lightig would go A LONG WAY to making the game look killer. i'm crossing my fingers that its just yet to be implemented, but i doubt it
