Dead or Alive: Last Round's Soft Engine Comparison (PS3/PS4)

Just imagine a game with sexy male characters with only dressed a slip and an enormous penis which physic applied. Just to put the thing in another perspective.

There may be a new Cho Aniki game announced soon. The developer is teasing a long awaited console game.

It's great that fighting game developers are out of the graphical showcase game so they can focus more on the gameplay than the visual appeal.

Because it just goes to show that games like Guilty Gear, which is currently setting the standard for how fighting games look, tell a lot of the people who ignore it & scream 'more graphics!'

When tekken 3 launched we had both, when Soul calibur DC launched we had both, When DOA 2 DC launched we had both, when Tekken Tag launched we had both, when Tekken 5 launched we had both. What's wrong with having both great graphics and great gameplay, one does not diminish the other and the two would surely be better together every single time.

Let's open our eyes, developers can't make games just for hardcores anymore, if there is a mediocre looking fighter that plays great and a great looking fighter that plays great which one do you think will be more appealing or attract the bigger casual fanbase? Granted that the ease of entry/accessibility is similar between them.

One reason I never mention Guilty Gear is that I don't think that game looks great, when I saw the first trailer it looked very nice but having played the demo the image is not appealing to me. There's just something about the image that looks smeared and fuzzy to me. I think skull girls has an image I can appreciate more, I wouldn't say any of these anime games are pushing the envelope for graphics technology in fighters, but some do look better than others. Blaze Blue, Persona and Skull girls all display a style/image I prefer.

Uh, huh? The series has not changed since DOA2 in terms of design. Infact DOA5 is the biggest shakeup so far since 1. On the Xbox version of DOA2 it looks really nice, but not really a shake up in look so much as a refinement.
You are stearing into off topic zone. The thread is not about game design or the changes of it in the Dead or Alive series. However, it ss about the soft bodies simulation differences between Last Round and the previous game.

That was what my post was clearing refering to XD

i'm happy i'm not the only one to see the downgrade ingame in Xrd. The cut scenes are super sharp and the in game models are less detailled like if the internal resolution was lower and have an horrible thick black outline.

Also on the thread topic, i say soft body physics should be applied to male to! i'm bored of the idea that "oh it's muscle, it has to be hard as rock". Muscle moves in real life and warp.

It not offend me. But I find offensive for the women. I'm not sure what you try to defend here. What's the point to downplay the role of the woman reduce them in a simple sexual toy? It's a thing I never understood about Tecmo.
That's what I just sayin. And compare the physic boobs... ugh.

It keeps on puzzling and fascinating me, the reason why some people feel morally obliged to spoil the fun of other people. Just that.

All games released during an era where arcade titles were still graphical powerhouses in comparison to the consoles. Today that doesn't apply.

Fighting games don't have an attractive selling point in anything other than name now. People will buy Street Fighter because it's Street Fighter. People will buy Mortal Kombat because it's Mortal Kombat.

It's one thing to not like Guilty Gear's art style in Xrd, but what it's doing with its technology is wholly original and unique to the genre in regards to its visuals, and that alone should be the respect that the series deserves. Guilty Gear does pushes the envelope for fighting game visual aesthetics, and these 3D fighters haven't broken through in visual appeal since the original Virtua Fighter 5 release.

Your the one who made the claim. You should be more clear about it if that wasn't your intention, topic of the thread or not, a lot of people are off topic right now

LOL. True DOA fans will get this.

OMG is an option now. :)

It costs exponentially more to make a game with the graphics you're demanding while maintaining a strict 60 fps output. A failure in that would mean the end of the development studio. The market is completely different today, fighters are not the money makers they were in the 90's.

You mentioned Tekken 5 being a graphical showcase, did you know that Tekken 7 despite being as risk averse as it is already costs 4 times more than Tekken 5 did. That's the toll every new generation of games take.

It's not matter of moral here. You have completely missed the point. And Im not even surprise, the lack of sensibility for this matter sometimes it's really worrying . Still I spoil the fun of the game talking of misogyny in the tecmo art style? Good Lord, man. That's really absurd.

Says the guy who compared this game to a snuff films. lol Keep fighting that fight SJW.

You know I didn't know there were people who willingly use the term SJW as an insult of some sort on GAF.

SJW sounds like one of those off brand 80s cartoon shows produced by Dic that always airs at like 5AM, like Pole Position.

There is an audience for snuff movies too. It's not what I meant. I'm just saying a woman shouldn't appear just like a sexual toy at all cost because could be offensive.
So, porn, playboy etc. should all not happen? There are probably a whole bunch of feminists who would disagree.

Development has gone up for all types of games though so it's not only fighters. At the end of the day it's the business they're in, so if they're still developing and making that investment it is doubly important that they compete and bring something cutting edge, they have always done so minus last gen, so erasing part of their legacy for pushing visuals is not something that they should take lightly.

The worse thing to me is trying to save cost and then your fanbase is not satisfied with your final product, there's no reward without risk and in the game of business and products that's the game we play. I do agree that fighters are not as big as they used to be, but it's kinda on a resurgence, we should also note that fighters haven't been setting the bar for visuals as they used too either. I think the fighting game developers should take big risks, one go for insane visuals, one go for some insane gameplay system or both, that's why I would not mind a bloody roar or a new 3D KOF.

At least it made me read some of the latest info coming out of Tekken 7, Seems like Harada is promising to turn things up to Level 3 on the visual front so let's see what improvements are made between now and release. I read a few bits about Tekken 4, it's been a while, I really liked this game even though many tekken fans didn't, glad I'm not the only one and there are still tekken 4 tournaments going on. Good read all round, hope his vision is realized.

Who is making sure of that? It seems to be a Famitsu video, this didn't come from Tecmo's channel, nor is it mirrored there.

Seems a silly thing to say since Tecmo has sponsored so many majors, has done so much to support the competitive scene, has been very involved with the community since the release of DoA5. DoA has received more post release support than just about any fighter other than SF this generation. Seems like confirmation bias more than anything.

Yes, there is a focus on the breasts, but I don't see anybody talking about the other stuff (outside of the OT where a few people still post and organize matches).

I think it is mostly confirmation bias they hear a game is a titty fighter and never acutlly gave the game a chance and stayed with the noise rather than finding out for themselves. A game can be shameless and have good gameplay, there is no either or.

I mean sure DOA has fanservice but not the entire community of DOA is about the fanservice and the gameplay on DOA5 its good enough to be competitive. Also the support TN has given the game has been stellar.

Sure the DLC might be bothersome for some but the money that comes out from that DLC it helps create balance updates and make up for sales if the game doesn't do too hot.

If people bothered to try Core Fighters on PS3 they can see the gameplay is good and there are casual outfits to use on the characters. Most of the naughty outfits come from DLC and you can simply ignore the catalogs so it shows characters with default outfits. (Team Ninja could do a filter for outfits)

Also Core Fighters currently will have 10 free fighters til January 4

I'm struggling to see a difference. I love you team ninja, but this is stupid.

The bounce is more natural in the left and the spacing is different. Also the texture details is noticeably better and the character models have a few more polygons and more particle effects. It's not an extreme makeover but it has some effort put into it.

It just looked like they got lazy on the PS3. Even the PS1 game had better jiggle physics.

lol @ calling those physics.

They have a setting in DoA5 that more closely emulates those "physics."

You know what's sad is this is all they could do given an entirely new hardware generation.

Meanwhile go back and compare the leap from DOA1 SS to DOA1 PS, or DOA2 DC to PS2. Same generation ports, way bigger difference.

DoA2 looks worse on PS2 than DC. So many jaggies. SS DoA1 seemed to have 3D backdrops? PSX version was just static 2D images almost.

I'd rather they do this simple job, clean up the IQ than worry about doing much more for a 3 year old game. Spend that time working on DoA6.

It just seems like a big waste when they can work on other things. Animation in hair and cloth are considerably better and the 1080p shows more detail, but I'd rather they work on ground textures than boob textures.

Congratulations! You're the first member on GAF I ever see that uses the unbelievably ironic "SJW" monicker as an insult.

Have you gone around and check what was GAF's fail of the year?

I'm sure they are going to take the money from this to make other things. Hopefully DoA6 isn't far off.
