well there was some demand for this on the performance threads from people like myself who are able to get to a playable state and are enjoying their time, so

currently at chapter 4, bit worried about the game moving too fast (only 7 chapters?) but I sure missed some dead rising. It's a testament to the game that im able to enjoy my time at locked 30fps

I'm loving what I've played of this game. It's awesome, aside from the weird "I look hilarious and yet my character's squealing like a three year-old about how the zombies are gonna get him" thing. Loving the psychos too.

the PC version is locked at 30fps??

You can unlock it. :)

Fun game but

1. where are all the psychopaths? Halfway through the campaign and there's been like.. 3?
2. I miss the hard time limits. Zero sense of urgency at all to complete missions which basically defined the first two games.
3. I also miss the almost brain-dead survivors and having to escort them back to the safe house. Most don't need escorting and there's so many safe houses anyway that it's not the least bit difficult to rescue the few that do need escorting.

It just doesn't quite feel like Dead Rising anymore.

I dont know, I feel like I agree but im not really bothered by those omissions

escort stuff got kinda boring after a while so seeing it reduced (while still there) is kinda nice. was also presently surprised recently when it finally got to night time and the game paused with that cutscene telling me it'd get harder. was missing some of that urgency too

Count me in as one of the few who doesn't have any issues with it.

I'm enjoying every minute, though the survivor I've had all game seems to have disappeared during a psycho battle (although maybe that was supposed to happen). I did get a new one right after, but the first one kind of grew on me.

Normal mode is easier this time around, which is great for me, as free time isn't a luxury I have much of anymore.

I'm kind of surprised how well DR3 turned out, considering the Xbox One original seemed to come out of nowhere last year.

SalsaShark, how are you liking it compared to past Dead Rising games?

1. This is concerning. Psychopaths are one of my favorite elements of Dead Rising.

2. I may or may not miss this. Are there many more optional missions to complete to make up for no hard time limits?

3. I will not miss these. I hated escorting dim-witted survivors. I know why it was there in past games, it makes all the sense it needs to, but I really disliked it as an activity. I suppose it was more bearable when there was a quirky twist like the Granny in DR2.

too early to tell really and I was craving Dead Rising so im really enjoying it for being THAT alone. I feel like if you like previous games you could be disappointed at some changes but if you liked em enough then this game is still great. 2 is hard to beat.

I am having a blast playing DR3. Is it worth going back and checking out 2 after I am done here?

yessssss

The hard time limits are in Nightmare mode. The clock moves 4 times faster in Nightmare mode and there are no checkpoints. It's available from the very start, you don't have to unlock it.

Still havn't played more than 2 minutes of the game.

At first, my game was crashing at the loading startup so I had to revert to older drivers to make it work. Then, even with specs that should give me, at the very least medium settings, I can't even run the game at LOW while having a higher than 5 FPS.
I'm not kidding either, the moment I turn the camera in-game, my FPS drops to single digits and stutters like crazy, even to the point of freezing my screen. It's completely ridiculous.

I'd say that the game pushed a little too close to what the people who didn't like it were asking for, so we got, what, seven psychos, safehouses everywhere, and less time management stuff. On one hand, I just want to explore this world and kill zombies, but on the other, DR is a game that's always been about navigation.

I only had a issues with performance when I set the renderer to "best". When I changed it to 1080P, everything massively improved, while the graphics stayed the same. 1080p, 60 unlocked, runs great. Only time it crashes is when I turn it off.

it's a weird compromise cause im not really getting that much from the open world. I mean the amount of zombies is impressive but the vehicles dont really do much for me. I was totally fine at a mall or a casino, just kinda see it like another one of those, just greyer.

Oh that's great to hear actually. I saw it on the main menu but didn't quite know what it entailed. Already looking forward to playing through the game a second time now :p

I would say no, unfortunately. Maybe the game was waiting for us to trigger the next campaign mission, but there was a point last night where my co-op partner and I were free roam collectathoning for like an hour or more and didn't get a single side mission from the walkie-talkie guy.

To me, you can really see where they cut corners to make this a launch title.

Too be fair 4 Dlc missions are included.

Just finished it, story was underwhelming and just boring as shit. Needed more campiness, felt like they were afraid of stepping away from the grimdark bullshit. Map layout made traversal tedious with the constant roadblocks. Hated how nearly side mission was essentially a shitty fetch quest. Boss battles were ridiculously easy, almost no need to even prepare unlike with 1 and 2. Time limit was barely a factor, so there was no sense of urgency, which is incredibly important to the franchise. And Nick is a shit protagonist. Give me Frank West and a double layer of cheese please. None of this conflicted hero, walking doormat bullshit.

Is there any way to go online with your current save if you choose Solo initially?

I can join other people's games but I'd like to just set myself to join able if possible.

Yeah, I've been craving some Dead Rising myself so I'm looking forward to playing this!

Ah, I see, thanks. That is disappointing. :( Hopefully the DLC is fun.

It's in the options menu once you load in.

It's a super fun game on Xbone and once it gets it's kinks ironed out it'll be a great addition to the PC library. Glad there's finally an OT. Good job Salsa.

It's not the best Dead Rising game so far to me, then again I still prefer the original and I tend to prefer the early stages before they start adding in a number of tedious enemies, however DR3 does seem to have lessened the problem a bit. Unfortunately the broken and boring boss fights have still found their way in.

The world doesn't seem to have much detail either. In the last two games I got a feel for where what shops could be found and they had a selection that felt like it fit the store. In DR3 so far I keep finding most of the best equipment set right in front of your path through the story and have received very few decent items by scavenging the stores. It's unfortunate because there are a number of locations that are quite interesting and could have some great weapons to fit their theme, however it seems ease of kitting yourself out was more of a priority. It completely kills my desire to explore unfortunately.

well the biggest cheese in terms of equipment comes from the fact that having the DLC instantly on the PC version means I got to my storage and found what are probably the best weapons in the game out the gate

but I guess I should have expected that

I'm a couple of hours in and I hate the setting. The city has none of the character of the mall or the casinos from the first two installments.

I didn't even touch the DLC weapons cause I heard they were kinda OP, but after seeing what the Ultimate Grim Reaper Scythe is capable of I'm curious to see what they can do, because THAT weapon is ridiculous in the best possible way.

This game has too many damn fetch quests. Go get me 3 spray paint cans, go get him 5 tarot cards, bring this old lady 5 food items and this other dude 5 guns, go disable 4 radio towers, go grab this crap across the map I need so you can get to the goth girl, etc.

And I keep having to constantly open the map to make sure I'm going in the right direction when I'm driving since there are so many damn roadblocks everywhere.

The only fun thing about this game is randomly running around killing zombies with combo weapons. Luckily, that makes it worth the twenty I spent but I won't be purchasing Dead Rising 4 day one.

Bit of a warning though you probably guessed it by now, those fetch quests aren't gonna let up either. They're pretty much the main mechanic for progression and get even more exaggerated as it goes on.

I think the game suffered a lot for attempting to have an open-world setting. A lot of the good design and charm in DR1/2 was tied to the smaller, super detailed environment you grew to be intimate with. DR3 does have a super detailed world with lots of open buildings that clearly have hand-placed stuff, but the open world really detracts from it. It feels a lot more like a Fallout-style deal where you know everything was hand placed but don't really care that much because you have access to everything you need on hand whenever you start playin' again (or easily). The design of the world doesn't actively play into your game experience (via route planning, which was a major part of DR gameplay) as much beyond fetch quests because you can access materials from your weapon locker alongside mostly using driving to get everywhere rather than being on foot.

I think the really strong story and environmental hazard progression that DR1/2 had is also missing because they spent more of their manpower on detailing the world rather than creating an interesting campaign scenario. There's a lot of repeats of mission types and it begins to feel routine due to the massive world size (and lots of driving/travel time) alongside repeats of mission styles and similar psychopath encounters (locked room encounters vs. open world encounters)

Alongside this, there's a significantly smaller amount of unique side-missions, and the open-world "randomly generated"/generic survivors actually actively take away from the charm of that aspect the series, where every single living human being was very clearly their own person with their own personality.

It's not a bad game by any means and a fine attempt for an open world variation/next-gen step for the concept, but I do believe it's quality ultimately suffered for it.

Thank you, Capcom Vancouver for delivering the nice man ass with DR2 and this.

Chuck and Nick are, like, the only dudes with an actual ass in games.

So I suppose when I pre-ordered this on Steam during the Summer Sale I got the Apocalypse edition aka go to your weapon locker and get whatever item you want. Kind of breaks the game but whatever. I suppose I can resist but it's hard!

Did you get overtime mode and see the "true ending"? That ending shocked me!

EDIT: I do agree that the side quest sucked and were basically fetch quest. I did like having a survivor with me to help defeat bosses. Nightmare mode plays like traditional Dead Rising so I don't have any complaints about tha. They made the game more accessible but they gave you options for fans of the original formula.

you only get the DLC weapons, which are indeed kinda OP but the game is not really that hard to begin with, and either way you'll keep wanting to find new stuff rather than just use the best

It's "get any item you've picked up/made," and each section has a limit bar that fills back up after a while, so you can't pick up ALL your items ad nauseam.

DLC items are starred and available right away, so avoid those since they're apparently OP.

No kidding. There's nothing quite like trying to push your luck with finishing a side mission, when suddenly you overestimated how much time you had left, and now you've got to get back to the safehouse in five minutes and all you have are three skateboards. What a rush.

You might as well use the DLC weapons if you've already unlocked stuff like the Electro Rod. That is the only thing you need for the rest of the game it is so OP
