Dead Rising demo TODAY. Now. :o

This game is just fun in bag. =)

what the hell is pp?

Stands for Prestige Points. You can get them by doing something cool or interesting while attacking, finding some interesting object interactions, or taking great pictures.

The ppt system is basically the main way to level up in Dead Rising. Higher the level, more abilities Frank gets (wrestling moves for example will only be possible after certain level, even with if you get the moves book).

Okay, with so many other *%&)@ games out so far this year, and myself being lost in Oblivion, Dead Rising slipped utterly off my radar. I just finished playing the demo 10 times or so, now it is my *&$*&# most wanted game.

Did the graphics complainers noticed how many effects are also turned on at the same time? Reflections? Specularities? The motion blur? The fact that it has all that and 50 zombies with corpses and vast tracks of blood and gore decals that don't immediately vanish? And doesn't choke and stutter every time you touch the stick?

While I actually am instantly FAR more fond of this than Lost Planet, wow, Capcom is really serious about the 360 as far as these two games go.

I also can't wait to see how the PP system works out in the full game. I like the idea of an RPG-esque growth system in something where the action is so varied and fluid. I'm also looking forward to the "replay" system, which sounds suspiciously like BoF: Dragon Quarter.

Finally, I have to say that this seems like the first zombie game that really gets the feeling exactly right. In part, it's just because the hardware is finally there to handle hoards of zombies that still have great animation and detailed behavior. But the zombies are /perfect/ A vague, not so scary threat at a distance, that slowly closes in on you and before you truly realize it, they've all begun to home in on you, and there seems to be the flawless balance of when they turn truly dangerous and in what numbers at close range.

WTF?! Can people STFU and stop acting like it's something new that Capcom makes good games?

If someone isn't wowed by the graphics, grab the shopping cart and plow through the first floor at high speed. Just see just how many zombies fill the screen all the way into the distance, complete with shadows and motion blur. There's so much going on and all of it is well done. This is the way to use the power of next gen.

Believe it or not I don't think the graphics are all that extraordinary... At least not directly. I mean there are other more visually impressive games, but Dead Rising has the culmination of a ton of cool looking technology (mainly the vast amount of zombies, the animation, the draw distance)... I think this game is a good example of first generation next-gen software -- a few aspects that make it impossible to do on previous systems, but not so much that it completely blows my mind. Know what I mean?

the only thing Ive seen that I havent seen mentioned in this thread is that you can heat up a frying pan so that its searing hot and when you attack by holding down X he presses the pan against the zombies face and you hear a "sssssssssssssssssssssssssss" I got a brutality for the pic.

It's been mentioned quite a few times. When in doubt just use the "Search this Thread" feature. ;)

The thread is 18 pages long - I think it's okay if you missed some stuff. :)

I am a weak individual. I bought a 360 about 4 hours ago for this, and have only just got it set up and running.

I am currently wearing a horsehead, childrens clothes and attacking zombies with a water pistol. This is the best game ever.

hahaha welcome to next-gen! peer pressure FTW! :lol

have fun w/ marketplace. that should keep you busy for a while.

Can someone explain to me how to see the cutscene where they show a little about how they turned into zumbies?

There's no such thing in the demo. Only cutscenes are : go behind you when you start to trigger the sniper one. Go to the left when you start until you find some cinema access to trigger the psycho-priest one. Finally, wait 15min for the night zombies cutscene.

edit ; oh....maybe I missed it then ahahaha thanks :lol

sure. soon as the game loads. turn right. there's a door into a warehouse. go through it... enjoy.

i'm pretty sure the warehouse one shows how zombies can be killed or what they may be allergic to not how the people got turned into them.

this game gives me such an RE4 feeling. looks like it'll have amazing supporting characters and memorable, over the top boss fights.

Thanks, I just didn't see that door. But it was ok. For me the best one is the sniper one.

Someone mentioned that 1/6th of the game's map is in the demo. If it's true then the game is pretty small. Can anyone confirm?

ok, this is pretty much the most excited and giddy i've ever gotten over a demol, but:

WHY IS THE IMPORTANT TEXT IN THE GAME TOO SMALL FOR ME TO EVEN READ?? it's beyond frustrating, and i hope something will be done about it in the full game.

I didn't have much faith in this game before I played the demo, boy was I wrong. What a fun game this it is! Who knew figuring out different ways to kill zombies could be so enjoyable.

Ya I noticed that too, hopefully something will be done, not a big issue though. Im going to try it on my roommates HDTV tommorow, im sure that will fix it some.

It's built for HDTVs, the text was fine on a friend's widescreen. It's shit on my crappy set though and I hope the full game recognizes the resolution and adjusts text size accordingly.

I've noticed the small text and button icons on several other 360 games too. The one that frustrated me the most was GRAW during the tutorial. I had to guess the buttons.

Try to do a footage of getting at least 500ppt action shot in HD. The most I got was 780ppts by taking a picture a split second after aiming my shotgun into the crowd.
I drank the Zombiebait and waited ontop of the awning where the Katana is hidden for the masses of undead to converge, once there were several dozen milling about, I jumped down, made my way to through the group turned and fired the shotty into the faces of 4 zombies and at the same moment snapped a picture - 2084 pts. :D

Yea sorry I guess I've been spoiled by the malls around my city. Markville Mall (200+ shops), Eatons Center (300+ shops) and Pacific Mall (400+ shops).

Playing the demo is a spoiler.

I think I can compare it with when I played the Burnout 3 demo. It almost was more fun than playing the game. When playing the game itself, the whole concept isn't a surprise anymore. Of course there are other things to find out but the basics are already known.

Perfect comparison in my opinion. I played the Burnout 3 demo so much that even though the full game was great, the 10 hours that I spent doing the same track on the demo was probably more fun than anything else (due to its freshness).

For that exact reason, I'm not going anywhere near this demo, watching any movies, etc.

I'm watching movies and reading some impressions, but I am also holding off on the demo. I'll pick up the full release in a week or so and keep it fresh. I've read enough impressions to know that I'll love it.

a couple photos that give you some PP points..

* clocktower @ stage start (702 PP - unique)
* servbot statue (smiley side) @ child's play (377 PP)
* ratman display @ movie land (666 PP)

oh, i just figured out how to create a waypoint. activate your wristwatch by pressing <-- on the d-pad. then hit "A". you'll notice a waypoint arrow show up. unfortunately for the demo it leads to the outside of the mall where there's a cut scene.

sorry if any of this info. is old...

Seems like it. Man, can you imagine what the next Resident Evil will be like? Capcom is on a major roll right now.

There is a meter in the bottom-center of the camera display that gives you a % when you point at those specialty pics. I guess it tells you what % of the total PP for that object youre getting.
The cutout girl in front of the CD shop nets you 1000 PP at 100%

right on, thanks for the tips... didn't know about the %. i swear i find something new every runthrough. i mustve clocked over 4 hours on this demo alone. :lol

i never really was much of a believer in the game, then i played it. The weapons are so incredibly satisfying to use. The hit detection, sound effect, and gore of each consecutive swing is simply spot on...it feels great to play. Its a ton of fun, it's easily accessible (jump right in at any time). It also has a great sense of humor, just a lot of little things.

btw, it's crazy how people are buying 400 dollar systems for a demo. Great job Capcom, Kudow MS.

For goodness sake, I hope you played Shadow of Rome.;)
