Dead Space Official Gameplay Trailer

Now this is a remake I welcome. Played Dead Space 1, 2 and 3 and I don't remember much except that I liked the first two and didn't finish the third one.

Wait, what? Is that even the same spot? Or did you just cherry picked the emptiest room you could find in the original to "demonstrate"?

Even so, this pic isn't exactly a good representation of how the original game looks.

By just looking at the main character at least, the geometry detail is very close. It's like they took the original model and made it more shiny.
As I already said earlier.
Its literally the same room at the same point in the game.
The med bay early in chapter 2.
For everyone who has the game telling me im misrepresenting, load up chapter 2 and go to the medbay.
Nostalgia eyes always makes people remember things looking better than they actually were.
Dead Space 1 had a lot of basically empty areas, with shadows giving them contrast.

I hate this. Just drop the fucking trailer.
Why everything has to be announced or leaked or rumored.
Why always make me fucking wait.
Surprise people and release the fucking thing. It's a video god damn it
its cause making vidya games costs a lot of moneyz. better maximize viewership numbers/awareness

can't say im fond of it either though

There are no benefits of having raytracing in Dead Space. It's mostly dark/barely lit areas and there are no reflective surfaces either. Maybe for shadows but raytraced shadows are worthless.
Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't that be a good reason to go with RT? Not too heavy if it's not a million lights sources, and the ones you do have can be effective. Plenty of windows to have partial reflections on, if that's a thing. I always assumed dark and atmospheric games would be the ones to benefit most from RT, not brightly lit games.

Nah, ray tracing works better when theres a large source of light, such as the sun OR if there are many smaller lights and we get the diffuse lighting like cyberpunk does it for its neons but in the latters case, you prolly would have a really hard time noticing the differences since Dead Space compared to Cyberpunk lacks a ton of light sources, colors, and whatnot to make it pop. Maybe indirect diffuse lightning like control did or ambient occlusion? Eh sure, it would be possible but again, to me, shadows in general, are the least important option. We already have good techniques for them that look great and do not demand huge gpu power. Maybe if Dead Space was built from ground up with RTGI in mind, it would've worked, but thats not the case nor will it ever be for many many years or any kind of game.

So, it's the same game with fancier graphics and Isaac can speak now. I love Dead Space and I'll buy it.

No, it's much more than that.

I swear it's like some people purposely avoid my posts (or don't read the Thread) where I specifically outline every change in this remake.

But there is Ray Tracing in the game. On both consoles and PC.

I merely stated its worthless to me, not that it doesnt have or it wont have. Read the post below. To me, GI>everything else RT-related. Hell I even put standard shadows on medium/high never max. THe performance cost is not worth the small difference in quality. Reflections are debatable they look awesome if you take pictures or stare but you're playing the game not specifically looking for reflective surfaces to check our your characters ass. RTGI on the other, now thats great, even diffuse lighting like cyberpunk does and how the colors reflect on the surfaces much better is nice to have but again, in a game like Dead Space, i just dont see it. Guess will see what it comes with when it launches. Im just speculating here ofc, but I doubt they managed to pull something amazing rt-wise.

That's why I think it might have RT lighting, at least on PC.

I'll play the centerist gamer here and say both things:

A) This looks clearly better than the former one, and I am not sure why anybody would say different

B) This is still short of what should be the standard going into year 3? Of next gen.

But people expecting EA to put out something generation defining in any way shape or form (game play OR visually) probably hyped themselves a bit too much. EA plays everything extremely safe. They haven't stepped out into the innovating game-o-sphere in probably a decade at this point.
Din din din din we have a winner.

It looks super dithered on the Trailer however. And not really extensive as there's a ton of missing shadows/occlusion.

I just hope there's a 60fps mode that looks competent and features the usual but good substitutes for RT. Because no way in hell I'll ever replay this game at 30fps (would have to be more impressive than UE5 demos for me to consider), and if they simply deactivate the not even good RT seen in the video to achieve 60fps I'll be disappointed regardless.

Please Motive, fucking deliver.

Many also forget that this ran at 720p30. Many textures and models are low quality and blurry. The darkness helps hides the flaws of the original graphics.
Yup.
People were used to 720p, so that was fine.
Even the PC version playing at 4K today you can see how low res the textures and geometry is.
The textures and geometry was actually pretty bad.....dare I say Dead Space looks like a modern mobile game.
If this game runs at 1440p - 2160p with updated textures, and a pretty large increase in geometry and density of assets, that alone makes it worth playing through.
Isaac has been more fully voice acted (i liked him quieter but they did it).
Side characters are more fleshed out. (Again i liked the mystery but they did it).
Now is it 70 dollars worth of another playthrough?
That depends on the person.
PC for me....obviously.
Imma rock this game cuz I like the Dead Space series sans 3, and hoping if this makes enough money, EA decides to make a true nextgen Dead Space 4.

I think its enough work and enough time has passed to warrant a remaster, from what I have seen, its a pretty sizeable reworking of an awesome game.

If does deliver, this year is gonna be 3rd person survival horror heaven for us.

It's going to be interesting doing a back to back with Calisto and Dead Space, that's for sure.

This illustrates the main issue we're seeing in this topic.

People are conflating something looking aesthetically similar and visually similar into the same thing.
This 100x.

Be like "he has a gun in his hand, thus....the same game, thus reskinz for the copy and paste, THUS" lol

You can see his back, this is what I played EXACTLY 1.1 on PS3

Nah. Just graphics is not worth over my original version.
Well, for me it's like 40 euros on pc and i didn't played the game since my run on x360, so extremely low res, low framerate and no pc bells and whistles, so this remake for me is worthy enough.

I pre-ordered. I hate pre-ordering games, especially a remake. But I love Dead Space and want more of it. I also want more single player games like the original Dead Space (not necessarily horror, but the type of design, etc). Gotta put my money where my mouth is.

It's pretty fucked up to see it at 59 EUR on Steam and 79 on PSN. I know consoles have their own tax thing, but 20 euros. Goddamn.

People are snorting something if they think it looks the exact same. Still, it's gonna be over $90CDN brand new, so... not day one at this point.

Same here bro. These are the games I like. Horror, minimal narrative exposition, no quest bloat and completions under 16 hours. That experience to me deserves the same price as any of the bloated open-world cringe orgies we get. Happy to pay them for this. Hope it sells well.

Same, and if I am going to complain about the stuff I don't like, then I have to do something when developers offer me what I say I want.

Obviously looks better than the original (funny if it didn't) but I cannot help but think it looks like it could run on PS4/XB1. It just doesn't look like a game that needs to be next-gen only. Maybe because there was no last-gen Dead Space so we have nothing to compare it to.

Funny hearing myself say that after complaining about there being no next-gen games, but going from "everything is cross-gen!" to "we're saying it's next-gen only but it could run on last gen but fuck off anyway!" is still bollocks.

Pretty much any release from now or the future will be able to run on last gen with the necessary cuts, this isn't the PS3 gen anymore where 512mb of memory was a huge limiting factor.

Just look how PC games can scale from an integrated GPU to a 3090 or how switch is getting some "impossible" ports from current games. Developers don't even have to account for the old consoles, they can build whatever they want targeting new hardware and it will still run on the old machines with a little effort.

Ok,I guess I must have got myself very confused about this game,lol......I was fully aware it was a remake, but I thought for some reason in this case that meant a reimagining of the original story/setup.After seeing this it is literally a remake,duh......room for room, encounter for encounter.....now I'm not that hyped for it and not sure why it exists and why they didn't just make another game in the series......I guess it's because that would have cost too much money and it seems the new normal in video games is to release old shit we have all already played, awesome!

First, they are making this to see if there's still interest in the series.
Remaking a game like this gives the new team a chance to see for themselves what made the original game good, and maybe replicate that with a future DS4, if they have the chance to do that.
With remakes, it seems a studio can never really win. Change too much, then people complain it's not the same game they loved, change too little, then people call it a remaster (it's super stupid) cash grab, or even unecessary.
And for the ones saying it doesnt look miles better than the original, seriously, you need to have your eyes checked.

It's interesting you say they are making this to see if there is still interest in the series.....because I'm still very much interested in the series, but won't be buying this as it's just another remake of a game I've already played.
