Dead Space Official Gameplay Trailer

It looks cool, but I have such fond memories of the original and Dead Space 2, that I'm more than willing to wait for a deep price cut on this. It's not a day one for me, but I'm really glad they did this, as this is a special game.

Callisto Protocol because it's a "new" game and IP has me WAY more intrigued, even though it looks a little janky in areas. I admire Glen Schofield for going out on his own and crunching those devs hard (joke)!

I was bored so here are some comparison shots both youtube both 4k from similar scenes I could find between the 2 videos. My opinion is yes, it looks good and its obviously a big improvement over the first HOWEVER jut like TLOU, its the same story, the same levels, the same gameplay. It's not a fucking new game. It should not be full price. It should be 30 to 45euros at max. ANyway judge the shit for yourselves.

Feel free to compare urselves with vids and whatnot. To me they did a good job but graphics are not worth 70euros.

Not nostalgia goggles you say?
Doesnt look like a big leap over the original you say?
Doesnt look like the environments were upgraded in terms of geometry you say?

They rebuilt pretty much all the geo for the game.
Im guessing only level blockouts actually survived, everything else was likely done again either from scratch or from bluprints of the old geo.
But sure it doesnt look great and doesnt make sense for it to be nextgen only.
this thats it ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? and its 70$ no thanks bc on xbox is fine for now

I literally played through the first game a little over a month ago on PC, and with just a few minor tweaks, it holds up shockingly well, still incredibly atmospheric. If I hadn't played that original, I feel like I would have liked that trailer a lot more, but it really is just a straight up remake.. Which I'm fine with, I'm really happy to see entire new generations of people check out the game because of the rerelease. But as it so far stands, I think I'd rather pick up Callisto Protocol now and then Dead Space remake down the line when I'm a bit more bored.

Oh, I can't wait to see people play it, it's such a great horror game and people are gonna be in for a fun ride.
Im in the same boat. It looks cool but I had replayed 1 & 2 right before the first rumblings of this occurred...I wanna see where they take it in the future so ill probably hold off on this. Not necessarily a dig at only this game - but some of these games/series have such great potential for expanding their lore/characters/universe that I'm a bit tired of remakes - lets see what new stuff these developers can create in those spaces.

I'm probably in the minority, most people here seem to be convinced by Callisto (what they saw at least). Or maybe it's just because it's a remake by EA and i get it, i'm not saying the work here is incredible (i don't even like remakes in the first place).

But yeah honestly whether it's just the original game we're talking about, or what Motive did with it, to me the difference is really striking with Callisto Protocol, in favor of Dead Space. Even though of course far more work was put into Callisto than the remake, even with the similarities.

- The Last of Us is 9 years old and already received a remaster and now an unnecessary remake.
- Dead Space will be 15 years old and this is a first re-edition.
- TLOU Remake has some minor gameplay and animation improvements + bunch of accessibility options. Nicer graphics too but ultimately it looks like Last of Us 2 (which isn't a knock against it).
- Dead Space is on a different engine with support for ray tracing on PC and consoles, and as far as I'm concerned looks great (substantially better than the original). It also offers new story bits and side missions, expanded lore, modernized gameplay, interconnectivity between levels (instead of loading screens for each chapters/sections) and those levels are not remade 1:1, so it should feel fresh even to those who played Dead Space countless times.

Sure, you can make an argument that it's expensive. However, I wholeheartedly disagree that you would only play remake for graphics and that DS is just a simple facelifting.

Besides, if you are on PC you can sub to EA Play PRO for 15$ a month and play it on release.
Spot on. Anyone saying this is a "1:1 remaster" like TLOU or graphically looks the same is on crack. I've replayed DS1 recently. I replay it often. It doesn't look anywhere near as clean as that trailer. I also saw plenty of new adds in that trailer (voice lines, areas, gameplay). They also added new suits to this game (the deluxe edition comes with three unique suits and two suit cosmetic textures; I'm assuming the unitology suit from the original is one of the cosmetic texture suits and the military suit is one of the unique ones; also probably some suits from DS2).

I didn't know about them removing loading screens though. Redesigning the entire ship to be interconnected in real time is the coolest fucking change they could have made. Apparently, they took inspiration from GOW2018 to make the entire game continuous from start to end with no cuts.

That said, I still don't believe in 70 dollar games. It's such a BS recent change that I've done a good job not supporting thus far. This and Calisto are rough for me, but I might wait a week or two to get it 10 dollars off somewhere. Then again, we rarely get horror games like this and I am a hyper fan, so maybe I should support these games. IDK

I feel exactly the same about this as I did about The Last Of Us Part 1.

Looks lovely… but I've played and finished it multiple times already.

My, my. The video games industry sure does seem healthy, with all these risk averse remakes….

Well its the same underlying game.
Beyond a couple changes to the tram system and the Zero-G sections.
Same shit.

If the graphics of the original were/are fine for you, then dont buy the remake.
No one is holding a gun to your head.

I don't think you saw my entire post but to keep things simple I think both look great 👍

I wholeheartedly agree on the whole "$70 AAA standard pricing sucks" thing, but I think it would be absurd to think "they look the same" or "it doesn't look good enough." Sure it's all subjective, but come on now, lol.

In the end, if it's something you don't want to buy at launch for $70, cool, don't. Get it whenever you're ready. You work for your money, you spend it the way you see fit. But acting like they're identical is silly as hell, lol. 🤷‍♂️

I dont have issue spending money on this because unlike TLOU and Horizon, I cant play Dead Space on my PS5, they only problem is it coming too close to The Callisto Protocol and both share lot of element from each other, I dont want to play them back to back like that.

The Last of Us looks significantly better than this does, visually. It's stunning.

Honestly, the original still looks pretty great maxed out on PC. This certainly looks better but it's just a fresh coat of pain on an already great game. I'll play it just because it's been years since I've played the original but you honestly can't go wrong with just playing the original either. It holds up very well.

Whose brilliant idea was it to take the awesome SP game and make it coop?

I always figured the studio simply didnt want to make the game at that point. Didnt even realize that directors had left the project.
It was always head staff decision. I remember seeing white papers on coop and just thinking to myself why.

Graphics look pretty underwhelming compared to calisto protocol. This gameplay trailer reminds me of the doom 3 reveal back in the day with its lighting where everything was like in darkness except of your flashlight/lightsource.

Not good resolution since he screen recorded it, but no one can tell me these look the same.

Some rose tinted glasses on if people honestly don't think it's a big upgrade from this.

Posts like these are missing the mark imo.

No one is saying it doesn't look generations ahead of the PS3 games. But so what?

What those who are complaining are saying is: It doesn't look next-gen enough. It's an extremely linear corridor shooter, with like 3 characters on screen at once. This game should be the best looking game of the gen by a country mile and the first real WOW moment of the gen.

This should have been what The Order was for PS4.

Take a look through this thread and you'll see multiple people stating that it looks the same/identical to the original or barely better.

The Order was a glorified tech demo. Yes it looked good, but it was a really bad game overall and never had as much going on as Dead Space. Sure, Dead Space isn't open world, but it looks more than good enough graphically to justify the remake. That along with no loading screens and a fully interconnected world/ship? Hordes of necromorphs crawling across the screen and through vents to connected rooms? Comparing it to The Order isn't realistic.

Also, the devs never sold this as some generation defining graphical showcase. It's a remake that is a substantial visual and audible jump up from the original along with tons of added features, which is all it needs to be.

Really don't care for the 70$ price tag, but am still going to get it. I feel it should at least be 1 and 2 for that price tag…

So, it's the same game with fancier graphics and Isaac can speak now. I love Dead Space and I'll buy it.
But we really live in an age of mediocrity. Everything is either a remake, a reboot, a rehash of something that came before.

TBH, I'm kind of with you on that. All these remakes are kind of stupid.

In the case of Dead Space though, I'm onboard. DS has been dead for some time now. Technically, no, the first game didn't NEED a remake. That said, it's a horror masterpiece and it needs another chance with modern horror audiences that DS3 lost for the series. It needs to continue, and reintroducing a new generation of gamers to the original (and hugely improved while being faithful according to interviews) masterpiece seems like a fantastic way to do it. I want this series to continue for generations of consoles into the future.

Wait, what? Is that even the same spot? Or did you just cherry picked the emptiest room you could find in the original to "demonstrate"?

Even so, this pic isn't exactly a good representation of how the original game looks.

By just looking at the main character at least, the geometry detail is very close. It's like they took the original model and made it more shiny.

I'll play the centerist gamer here and say both things:

A) This looks clearly better than the former one, and I am not sure why anybody would say different

B) This is still short of what should be the standard going into year 3? Of next gen.

But people expecting EA to put out something generation defining in any way shape or form (game play OR visually) probably hyped themselves a bit too much. EA plays everything extremely safe. They haven't stepped out into the innovating game-o-sphere in probably a decade at this point.

Bonus: I also agree with people remakes or way too common now and heavy. Falling way short on original ideas happening now, like the rest of the entertainment industry.

Bonus 2: I only ever played the first game's demo, so I have no real skin in this game.

Bonus 3: whoever said the Order was not really a game… tsk tsk. But I would argue the visual bar of PS4 era was set by Shadowfall before The Order came in.

It honestly looks like a Remake upgrade you'd expected on PS4. Only, we are on PS5 by now.

No matter, I loved the original and will get this one for sure eventually.

I feel like the fact they've added voice acting for Isaac will make a huge difference in the game on its own. At least make it feel new again. Even without all of the other changes/improvements they will make.

While I get what your saying I think a lot of us older gamers forget kids/younger adults are the primary customers and most of them never experienced these games and are not interested in playing the older editions.

The remakes are not stopping the release of new IP, heck the biggest game this year was a new IP which was Elden Ring.

This game and TLOU remake are worth the $70 for someone who has never played the first games IMO and that is the audience these older gamers seem to forget exist.

Also with options like EA play, game pass, constant sales etc there are more ways to get access to these games without spending $70.

The whole time I was thinking "damn do I really want replay this shit? Well..I did have a good time with the original…and these graphics are pretty dope."
Then the end…oh it's not till next year…we'll see.

Yeah, I think it looks a lot better than the original (although the original still looks pretty good for a game if that era) but I still don't see why it's next gen only because it's nothing mindblowing in terms of graphics. Still happy we're getting it and I'll definitely buy it. Maybe not on launch day but I won't wait too long.

It's gonna be wierd because I've somehow lost my PS3 version of Dead Space but still have Dead Space 2 so I'll probably play this and then boot up the ol PS3 to play the sequel. It's gonna be jarring.

Is it known if the game uses some sort of ray tracing?
The game world world would be made for it.

Otherwise it doesn't look bad, but it's not a revelation like e.g. the Demon's Souls Remake.

There are no benefits of having raytracing in Dead Space. It's mostly dark/barely lit areas and there are no reflective surfaces either. Maybe for shadows but raytraced shadows are worthless.

I'm guessing the budget for this game is fairly low compared to a fully fledged next gen only game.

I think the graphics look perfectly good. Could it look better? Yes. Does it really matter? No. It looks good enough.

This is what appeared strange to me; callisto protocol, while being cross-gen, looks equal or better than this in terms of gfx.

I'm definitely buying this day one. I want EA to continue the franchise. Remake 2 then pretend like 3 never happened, going in a new direction for the future sequels.
