First off, another zombie flick? Really? What zonbie-related story are they going to tell that wasn't already told in the 3569 episodes and 374 movies that already exist about zombies?

Second, how the hell are they not using Sam Witwer?
I'd understand if they needed an actor that has movie production experience and Sam Witwer didn't have it, but he does so this is just ridiculous. The guy practically invented what makes the character interesting.

people gotta understand at this point that sony are not using the actors from the games for the movies, no matter how popular they are. They want the games and movies to stand on their own.

They aren’t making 1:1 adaptations, if you want all the same actors as the game just play the game

I just played Days Gone this year. Blew my expectations out of the water. This game is not talked about nearly as much as it deserves.
Not much talked about? Game came out more than 3 years ago and it was not a huge financial success (probably just break even).
Most people played the game just recently because Sony gave out the game for free if you were a PS Plus member and had a PS5.
It was one of the first games with a PS5 patch (60fps) solving the much talked about issues it had on the PS4 at launch. All reviews mentioned the performance issues.
I didn't bought the game at full price, enjoyed it a lot, but will not demand a sequel. I want to, but I don't deserve it.

Sonys focus on Movies instead of games is baffling. By the time all these films come out, every major studio and publisher for sale will have been bought, and MS, Tencent, and Embracer will be far bigger threats to Sony than before they decided movies were where they needed to invest.

Still don't get that line. Wouldn't she be the one riding him like a bike?
Man I'll tell you what. When it comes to music, Katy Perry has nice tits.

I can't believe they are making a movie about this game. It really makes no sense. Maybe there will be a sequel. Probably nowhere as good as the first game.

Find it hilarious personally that Sony didn't find Days Gone "successful" enough to greenlight a sequel, but are now greenlighting a blockbuster film for it.
There’s a lane for this kind of film. White ruffians have been trending lately in various media, most notably the resurgence of Nordic based stories. This trailer park zombie tale (I just assume that’s what the plot is, never played the game) makes a lot of sense. Hopefully it dovetails into another game since it probably deserves it.

Why though? It's not really a known, beloved franchise like Uncharted and TLOU. Most people don't give a shit about Days Gone.
Why would anyone make a movie based on Days Gone? 😂 Such a trash game. Let it die for Christ sake.

Days Gone is one of the best selling new IPs of the generation in gaming.

Like Destiny, Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon, which Sony is also adapting to movies.

Guess what, pretty likely most people don't have the same personal opinion than you. Specially those who played the game.

I think Mad Max Fury Road would be an ideal template to borrow from for Days Gone movie, having various hordes (not zombies, raiders, cultists) on his tail rushing through the landscape, just never letting up, some similar things you could pull from, with some solid motor bike stunt work.

It's weird they want Sam Heughan dude is 42, only 2 years younger than Sam Witwer so its not an age thing, also I'd no idea Witwer streams on twitch, I'm sure some will ask him why he's not being cast.

I liked the game but Deacon was such a frat-boy douchebag. His girls was a douche for liking him too. Wonder if he'll be a douche in the show?

Director: Cut! Cut!. I'm gonna need a bit more douchebagery from you. You know... like making a whole room of people roll their eyes and groan type douchebagery. Yeah, like that but could you put your collar up. Thanks. Take two!

Sony did not publicly admit that, but

Yea, thats what I thought though so.....this is nothing lol

Sony has never stated anything about the game not reaching some expectation or something as why make a film about it? Why port it to PC? It sounds more like Bend internally wanted to move on to a new IP and did. When things don't meet Sony's expectation, they generally don't reward the team with a new IP.

Ask Evolution games how Sony feels about shit that doesn't meet their expectation, they didn't just give em more money to then make a new ip after. So I don't see much truth to any of that. If anything, it would probably be Sony themselves wanting a sequel as its cheaper and safe lol So its no sequel because of what Bend wants, not based on any sales expectation or something. I haven't seen anything to support that bit of fanfiction.

PlayStation Productions has to realize the problems with this and that's why this is a movie instead of a tv show. There just isn't a sustained market for this as a tv show with fatigue from The Walking Dead.

As a movie, I don't see this doing well either.

That fatigue is hitting cinema as well.

Look at A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part II

AQP - 341 million (17 million dollar budget)
AQPII - 297 million (61 million dollar budget)

RE: Afterlife - 300 million (60 million dollars budget)
RE: Welcome to Raccoon City - 41.8 million (25 million dollar budget)

The budget for this movie is almost certainly going to be small based on the risk. You're looking at 25-50 million dollars.

You compare it to World War Z and they didn't get someone like Brad Pitt to helm this because they don't actually believe in it. They're not even expecting this to do as well as Zombieland which did 102.4 million.

The best they're probably hoping for is something along the lines of 28 days later which did 85.7 million on an 8 million dollar budget, but they won't go that low on the budget which makes it more comparable to 28 weeks later which already had knowledge around it from the prequel and this game has knowledge around it from the game. 65 million dollars box office on 15 million dollars.

So the goal for them will be to roll in with as low a budget as possible here, which is why they're in talks with Sam Heughan a significantly bigger name than Sam Witwer, but not expensive in the least. They're hoping to convince Outlander fans to watch it and their boyfriends/husbands to want to see it for the zombies and motorcycles. It's not going to do well.

Solid and agreed.

Maybe Days Gone doesn't work well for its story outside of gaming. (even within the medium that story was......not the best lol)

With rumors just surfacing, we probably don't see this movie for another 2-3 years. Maybe the fatigue will have dissipated by then, but yeah, this has bomb written all over it.

I'm looking forward to this, but I want the story of Deacon to continue in a sequel to the game. They revealed that the Freakers were evolving. So it's not cool to leave things open ended.

Maybe if this movie is successful, we could see a sequel to the first game. I'd love that. The first game has some impressive graphics and there was a lot of people to save and team up with, and the story kept my interest. It was sad to see Sony acting like it was a flop. It has done tremendously well on Steam.
