The fuck? 2016 was great for movies. What are you even talking about?Just shows what a shit year its been for movies. Freaking deadpool.
People don't like Crash? Why?
This is the awards show that declared 'Crash' & 'Argo' the best movies of their respective years. They've done far worse than champion a comic flick.Embarrassing
I mean personally, if I'm putting a comedy in the Best Picture noms, I'd choose Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Wiener-Dog, Everybody Wants Some!! over Deadpool, but I'm glad to see a variety of movies being nominated if this happens. Obviously, Deadpool being by Fox, they have a bigger marketing budget to spend on an Oscar campaign if they want compared to those other films. Although Everybody Wants Some!! and Wiener-Dog have Annapurna (Foxcatcher, Killing Them Softly, The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, Her, American Hustle, 20th Century Women) as a production company, so could have a chance if they wanted to do it.
I've wanted the Oscars to have a "best sequence" award for a long time, and the bathroom stall scene from The Nice Guys would be a shoe-in for that. The Nice Guys really does deserve some more awards love. I'd trade Deadpool's for that in a heartbeat.
Most of GAF never looks outside of the blockbuster/commercialism outputThe fuck? 2016 was great for movies. What are you even talking about?
Pretty much. How do you watch movies like The Nice Guys, or Kubo and the Two Strings, or The Wailing, or The Witch, or Arrival and then whine that there's nothing good?People who complain about a lack of good movies don't actually watch movies.
People who judge the quality of a whole year's worth of movies based on the handful of blockbusters they're aware of have no business complaining. Most of GAF never looks outside of the blockbuster/commercialism output
Granted, that area was pretty trash this year
PS Watch Manchester by the Sea people
Would be embarrassing if it does
WATCH.
MORE.
MOVIES.
It's really not that good. Just more proof that 2016 was a weak year.[/QUOTE]

Yeah. I didn't get the memo, don't want to look all stupid saying I liked it in some other thread.Wow, didn't realize the tide had turned so strongly against Deadpool on GAF.
I deeply disliked this movie and I really don't want to live in a world where it gets nominated for Best Picture but The Dark Knight doesn't.
La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester, Hell or High Water, and Arrival are all high quality movies. And I haven't seen Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, or Lion yet.Maybe you should scream that to the Producers Guild.
2009 Oscars and 2017 Oscars are pretty different.
It's not always 10 exactly. It's probably 8 this year like it's been for the past couple of ones. It's not hard to get a Best Picture nom now that they insist on putting 10 movies on the list now. No one should be surprised- it's critically acclaimed and an audience favorite.
but guys what about colleteral beauty will smith has worked soooo hard to get that nomination
it wont, lego movie didn't get nominated despite being the best animated movie that year. didn't even fucking get nominated.

Leads to some hilarious generalizations thoughPeople who judge the quality of a whole year's worth of movies based on the handful of blockbusters they're aware of have no business complaining.
