after watching the videos this is totally DG trying to create chaos in the space of their absence. Love it.

someday they'll get the riot that they want.

It's mostly a love/hate thing. I can totally see why you won't like it upon first listen. Challenging music takes time, but it's a worthwhile investment. It's an aquired taste, and very rewarding in the long run.

Try this song. It's their most commercial track, and fairly straight forward. Still very good, and the lyrics are interesting.

I can safely say that all my favorite bands have taken me a while to get into. Some of them I even hated initially. As a musician and composer, I force myself to experience new music I wouldn't normally listen to. Otherwise I'd just stagnate creatively. Maybe it's differnt for other folks, I have no idea.

Both of these sound pretty good. I really like the second track. The others I've heard were a bit more i don't know if I'd say heavier but definitely more chaotic which i just wasn't feeling.

I can agree with the taking time to appreciate certain sounds. I'm a big Grimes fan now but when i first found her stuff i wasn't as perceptive to her whole sound, liking the more commercial tracks. Same happened with Crystal Castles and some other bands.

yeah. im getting the same vibe. this was totally manufactured. still shitty to do.

Their music generally has a "hazing" period, anyways. At first The Money Store sounds straight up abusive (with moments of bliss), but if and when it clicks it's the greatest.

Like The Fever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W43aQxzjyeM. At first It sounds like you're being throttled to death, but then that slick synth hook comes in and holy shit.

I don't know if Ex-Military is more or less assessable. I thought it was easier to get into than The Money Store, and it does have that "haha, what a weird juxtaposition of that sample and and the tone of the song" thing going for it.

No Love Deep Web is pretty "meh" compared to Ex-Military and The Money Store, but that's what you get for trying to crank another album out in the same year as The Money Store.

This music is definitely challenged.

Whats that
Can't tell
Hand held dream
Shot in hell
Deep space ghetto (streets)
Show me somethin
I ain't seen before
Mystery hind that
Death door
Juke step electrocute the floor
Whats the science on
Flyin that high
Got a no-no goin, one time

Creeps up behind me
Over my shoulder
Turn around try to see
But its nowhere
Noided, noided
Static on my blindside

[Hook]
I seen footage, I stay noided.. I seen footage [x8]

[Verse 2]
Everybody's knowin
Where ya think you're goin ain't goin nowhere
Satelite, handle that
Wit a lead pipe

Who captures life
Who takes whats left who stay
On that next, already know my gillicutti, like I told you...
Dont touch me
Whats up wit it
I stay noided, stimulation overload account for it
Desensitized by the mass amounts of shit

Ive seen it, ive been it
Can't delete it feels like jail (noided) full moon in da klink shinin dont sleep
Surveillance post my bail

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
Armored cop open fire Glock
On some kid who stepped so
Fast was hard ta grasp
What even happened til you seen dat head blow
Off his shoulders in slow mo
Rewind that, is so cold
Rewind that, is so cold
I seen footage.. I stay noided

Juke step wit so much boy rude looseness seem like
No bones in him skin
(noided) my jaw hit da floor like this real for I gotta see that one mo gin

Ambulance hit and run over pedestrian in brazil
Little tiger, boy soldier
Twist a cap back and kills (noided)

Seen crazy shit man crazy shit

I seen footage, I stay noided... I seen

Rap GENIUS

I was at the show. After the opener finished, the stage was set up for Death Grips with a mic, a synth, and a drum set, and the suicide note backdrop (the note was printed on the backdrop, not projected). The venue was playing a mix of Death Grips songs, people were dancing and moshing. The crowd got more and more agitated after a while when they didn't come out, some of the crowd got on the stage briefly but security got them down. Then the music stopped, the lights came on, and the announcement was made that the band didn't show up, the show was cancelled and everyone would get their ticket money refunded. (I got the refund email this morning) At that point it looked like the venue security stopped caring about what happened to the band's stuff on stage and some guys dragged the drums down to the floor.

Yup, exactly what happened. Came in with an open mind, didn't really dig it, get called an uncultured simpleton. [...] This is like 2 notches higher than dubstep, seriously, enjoy your dreck.
All fair, to each their own.
The irony is I know more about musical composition than anyone who would consider this ground breaking or whatever fucking buzzwords kids are using these days.

You're not the only person learned in composition. Not that it matters when talking about opinion.

It doesn't really matter what band you're in; it's really fucking disrespectful to the people who paid to see you to not show up. Unprofessional as hell.

. This is like 2 notches higher than dubstep, seriously, enjoy your dreck.

Agreed, this sounds like noise, just literal noise. Though there is good dubstep that isn't just WUBWUBDROPTHEBASS, seeing this regarded as the best in their genre, yea this is pretty damn bad.

Shame for the fans though, if I pay to go listen to dreck then I better god damn hear some dreck if that's what I'm into.

They are fucking amazing and mean a lot in pushing the envelope in rap, hip hop, punk, hardcore, and rock right now.

So yes.

Dat hyperbole.

What's next for these preeminent pushers of envelopes?

Don't get me wrong I dig their stuff but you're making it sound like they're more important to some genres than they really are.

I like how people on the internet assume they are the only ones who have studied composition. I happen to have a music degree, as I'm sure many others on GAF do as well, and I love the shit out of some Death Grips.

There are actually quite a few layers to Death Grips' songs - hearing it on Youtube isn't a good idea imo. Get some good headphones and the CD itself or good quality version. Death Grips is great hip hop, though I'd disagree that it's what the genre is moving towards, even if Kanye kind of mimicked the style in his latest album.

It helps to read some Zach Hill interviews and stuff too, as a lot of what is fascinating about the group is their approach as a whole, like the thing about having multiple "death grips" touring at any given time and stuff like that.

i hope that happens eventually. I'd love to be apart of Death Grips, Bay Area edition.

I actually don't like that album too much, more a fan of The Money Store. They're all pretty good though.

Either way it's a weird taste. I'm posting a Youtube link when I shouldn't be because of the quality, but oh well lol.

I'm a fan of weird bands and genres, but it's just kinda annoying. Not a fan of the vocalist in the least.
