this is really bad music
Aren't you the guy who still listens to Sum 41?
this is really bad music
Yup, exactly what happened. Came in with an open mind, didn't really dig it, get called an uncultured simpleton. The irony is I know more about musical composition than anyone who would consider this ground breaking or whatever fucking buzzwords kids are using these days. This is like 2 notches higher than dubstep, seriously, enjoy your dreck.
thread got me listening to Death Grips again
Aren't you the guy who still listens to Sum 41?
It's mostly a love/hate thing. I can totally see why you won't like it upon first listen. Challenging music takes time, but it's a worthwhile investment. It's an aquired taste, and very rewarding in the long run.
Try this song. It's their most commercial track, and fairly straight forward. Still very good, and the lyrics are interesting.

I can safely say that all my favorite bands have taken me a while to get into. Some of them I even hated initially. As a musician and composer, I force myself to experience new music I wouldn't normally listen to. Otherwise I'd just stagnate creatively. Maybe it's differnt for other folks, I have no idea.
I don't see anything groundbreaking happening in the songs that were posted so far but I guess this is just one of those bands people will defend until the hype dies off.
Hacker is the most quotable song ever. So good.
PBR as well I'm assuming
Not seeing something groundbreaking /= band that people stan for all the time lol
Sorry I meant fans will defend. And I definitely don't think people will defend them all the time. Once they get a huge hit the majority of fans will turn on them.

Do they have some shitty audio recording equipment?
It sounds bad, like they're using trash cans instead of instruments.
Haha, not even just that. Zach used to always be involved with a bunch of projects at the same time, but these days, he seems pretty much just dedicated to Death Grips. Not enough Zach Hill now.
I agree with you.I haven't felt like an entire musical career of a band/artist has been an elaborate troll for a long time. These guys, from album to performance, are just trollin' everyone and anyone that defends it is falling for it the hardest.

Exactly. It's like not showing up to work. Dudes, you aren't 16 anymore. It's weird as a grown-up to see a band trying to act punk. I mean, I can see how that kind of uncompromising, chaotic attitude gets them fans, but they just seem unprofessional most of the time.
So you don't understand the appeal of something, and that leads you to believe that people who like it are full of shit? Such enlightened thinking.I haven't felt like an entire musical career of a band/artist has been an elaborate troll for a long time. Get noided. All this Death Grips hate gets me heated
Oh my god. Those weren't fans that destroyed their gear, those were people with functioning hearing apparatuses trying to stop this shit from spreading.
Very well said as usual.Look, I was being theatrical. No offense intended.
Regarding Death Grips; It's simple. It's raw. It speaks to people. It's the simplicity that gives it weight. There's a certain hubris in their music, yet it's honest and humble. It captures a lot of my feelings about modern life, social media, and our increasing numbness towards violence.
I'm not even sure what you're trying to say with your comment regarding musical composition. Please elaborate.
Then I'm out on hiphop.
If this is it's direction it might as well be motherfucking polka music or yodeling solos.

Really?
Really!?
Nothing about this sounds rather brilliant or compelling. Sure, it's different.... but being different for no other reason doesn't mean you're good. Try listening to music where people play instruments.
Death Grips own.
Also @ people who are saying "I have to force myself to like this": taste isn't something you're born with. You develop it. Otherwise, you'd still be eating dinosaur nuggets and KidCuisine.
Taste is subjective, and is not a data point used to measure one's maturity.
I have many acquired tastes but I don't think this music will ever be one of them.E: Haha. Yeah it is. Taste is a good indicator of maturity. I'm defending the idea of acquired taste.
Mostly because the criticisms in this thread are incredibly inspid, immature and unoriginal. It's reminiscent of the same shitlords who look at modern art and say out loud "my kid can do that."
