Holy shit, I'm not a big fan of Del Toro's writing but damn Idris Elba and Charlie Day in a monster movie....woow. Hyped.

I like how they're both breaking into hollywood finally.

I'm a bit surprised that I havent heard of this before. It sounds awesome, and they've got some great cast members in already. Hopefully it comes together well.

I hope the monster have more a eastern influence rather than a Euro/western one.

They're going to be del Toro interpretations of Godzilla et al. So, whatever influences del Toro normally will be the influence here, most likely.

Hopefully the film ends up with a Mecha-Godzilla being built to fight the monsters

I did that thing to the thing for you.
I don't know, Invasion of the Astro Monster featured Godzilla doing a happy dance. And in Godzilla vs. King Ghidora, there was a scene with Mothra arguing with Godzilla and Rodan who couldn't get along. I really don't know if I'd put those above GINO. At least GINO had some cool action scenes and mother fucking Jean Reno.

Variety now reports that Rob Kazinsky has joined, with Willem Dafoe entering early talks.

lol movie still sounds to awesome to be true

You have no idea on the scale of some of this stuff. We've started work for a few months now even though the movie's not out til summer 2013, to give an idea on how much time is needed.

Still in development, eh. Well thats good to hear and see that its not being rushed. Hopefully, a teaser trailer will be out during the Summer time.

So glad this movie finally got into production. Del Toro seems to have so many issues getting his movies off the ground. But once he does, they're usually awesome.

After the Troll Market scene from Hellboy2, anything that Del Toro touches that has a monster I will blindly follow and say "day -1" !

But at the same time, that scene made me a little afraid of how much CG vs Props/Makeup he can work...

Well fuck, I forgot they were filming parts of that here. Going to see when they're filming again so I can swing by.

The part where HB chases the Sammael from the first movie combined suit-mation with CG pretty well in my eyes.

Anyway, they were reportedly filming Pacific Rim since november 11 on soundstages. Are there so many indoor-scenes or were they building some streets as sets? Maybe...

Official synopsis is out:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Its like I'm really watching anime!

Saw this bumped alongside the G.I. Joe thread and was worried it was getting delayed too :(

I just hope they release a couple sketches of some of the monsters they're using. I'm really interested to see what kinds of designs Del Toro has cooked up. That is as long as they keep most of them hidden until the movie releases.

You'll likely see more stuff around Comic-con.
