Just a heads up if this is up your alley.

There's a comic book series coming out with a slightly different take on kaiju.

Just saw a preview of Enormous. This looks incredibly awesome and right up my alley.

I posted this is in the comic side a few days ago, but I think some of you could dig it.

It's basically like Pacific Rim only instead of fighting back, the giant monsters destroy mankind and make us wander the planet Walking Dead style trying to survive.

I've never heard of this movie, but reading this thread sold me so hard.

If this movie can live up to its cool premise...fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

There better be an awesome home base with a command center filled with cute chicks in short skirts manning all the computers

I'd actually be fine with all of the things I don't want if Pacific Rim is just a cover name and this really is the live action Evangelion movie.

I never “bend” a property to fit me. I just fall in love with the stories and give it my everything, so – don’t worry about [Mechas like The Golden Army in 'Hellboy 2']. These are proper robots but they obey our own sensibilities in design. I am not making them gear or steampunky at all but I also don’t want them to be just a “riff” on preexisting designs from Anime or games.

I wonder what they'll look like. So I guess Japanese inspired designs like Gundams or Macross are out (I am actually not that familiar with them). Are we talking more District 9 type mechs? Avatar humanoid tanks? Walking mechs like Metal Gear?

Huh, del Toro has his own site... I didn't even know that. He answers people's questions on the forums occasionally

I have been so excited about this since I got this t-shirt at Comic-Con last year! I had no idea what it was until a few days into the con, when Del Toro started talking about the film.

I hope it turns out good. But other than Pans Labyrinth i have not been impressed with anything I've seen from Del Toro. A few cheesy but lightly entertaining movies like Blade and Hellboy, but only the one great movie.

I just watched Don't Be Afraid of the Dark the other night and it was so bad that I was actually angry by the end of the movie.

Sounds awesome. I just hope the Del Toro curse does not follow it. It just seems that he is destined to be in perpetual turnaround on projects lately. And it is sad, as he has an amazing visual mind.

I don't get this comment... what curse are you referring to? are you comparing his less than stellar producer credits (Dont be afraid of the Dark) with the likes of Pans Labyrinth and Hellboy 2 and claiming he is cursed from this point on to make shitty films??

I agree. I think he's a beast in the design part of things but when it comes to actual scripts and films I'm not really a fan at all aside from Pans Labyrinth. Hellboy movies look nice but I think they suck pretty bad and have nothing on the comics (which SHOULD be Del Toro's forte since it's steeped in horror and dark mood, but Guillermo chooses to make crappy comedies instead)

The synopsis has me hyped for this film, but I'm cautiously optimistic on the end product because of the director. I know the monster designs will rock though.

Splice and The Orphanage are better than everything he's directed except maybe Pan's Labyrinth.

I hope this is cool. I really want to like Del Toro more than I do. I think he's a rather bad writer, and I see he didn't write this, so I hope that's a good sign. He has a lot of cool ideas, but he often doesn't know which ones to focus on and then the execution is rough too. We shall see.

This sounds bad. I loved the idea of a Del Toro film with giant monsters coming from the ocean. Now it sounds like Robot Jox or a Power Rangers film with a budget, or any million garbage anime stories. Just make a Voltron film if you want to be derivative.

Hey Xia are you at liberty to say 3D yes or no? and if IMAX, GOOD GOD!

Let's Do This!

I'm pretty pumped for this movie based on the concept alone. Can't wait to see what the mecha designs actually look like. I wonder if we'll get a taste of that at Comicon. In fact, I wonder what they will tease visually first - the monsters, or the robots?
