Delta announced in late July it would directly fund and finance the costs of its LaGuardia Airport redevelopment project, which would renovate Delta's terminal. The airline will be on the hook for the majority of the $4 billion development plan, with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey still contributing up to $600 million, according to Reuters. Delta alone will be responsible for any potential cost overruns.

Delta's redesigned terminal will come in addition to a separate $4 billion public-private partnership, currently under way, to rebuild the airport's central terminal, Reuters also reported.

Would you rather sit on a toilet seat with no cover at LaGuardia, or eat off the floor at Boston Logan? That's the real question of our time.

I'll take the toilet seat.

JFK, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia are an absolute disgrace to the country. people arriving to those airports as their first indication of what America is like must be astonished.

Newark in particular is not only a hellhole, but a deathtrap too. if there's ever a fire in the security line there will be trampling and stampede deaths. I'm constantly amazed that system meets fire code.

Good! LaGuardia's a damn dump but I always gotta fly there when I'm visiting back home to NY because flying to JFK costs a bunch more. It's tragic. I guess that's what happens when you build an airport in fucking Queens.

Yeah the NYC-area airports are disgusting, but then again so is NYC compared to any other first world country major city and its airports, so at least visitors are getting a fair introduction, particularly to the aging and ugly infrastructure of the US.

For the first time ever, I flew back home (to Orlando Florida) out of Westchester County Airport...and man, I'm contemplating never flying out of JFK or LGA again. Hahaha.

It was so tiny. I walked in, was the first person to get my ticket scanned. First person to go through security. And within 45 seconds, I was at my gate. LOL. It's probably the most hassle free airport experience of all time for me.

The United terminal at Newark isn't bad. Most of the security lines at the checkpoints have all been upgraded to automatic belt driven tray delivery systems, so no longer need to wait for a TSA person to restock a cart...

Also the customs area in terminal B isn't bad, as I had to use it when I came back from Mexico...

Terminal A and B on the other hand in terms of gates and security and just decor of the terminals are horrible.

What in particular is wrong with JFK? That one always seemed relatively nice. Not amazing sure, but certainly not "an absolute disgrace to the country."

yeah, Terminal C is pretty nice as far as airports go. They got rid of the moving walkways to fit in all those fancy new restaurants and beer gardens so it can be a long fucking walk to your gate when you're downstairs at the end of the concourse

Jetblue terminal at JFK isn't bad. Fly in and out like 4 times a year.

Yeah, it's pretty good. One reason why I'll only ever fly JetBlue. All other terminals aren't in the best of shape. With terrible lines.

The only time I have gone to NY we flew in via Newark. I didn't think the airport was bad. No worse than any other.

I drive so I never (rare occasion) have to visit LaGuardia or JFK.

HAHA... yeah, I miss the walkways... Also I miss being able to get Dunkin Donuts near my gate or McDonalds. For whatever reason Newark got rid of the food places that everyone wants to eat at and put in food places that no one wants to eat at.

When I was flying out of there in June I went to the food court that is near the 80's gates in terminal C and I heard someone say to his wife "What happened to McDonalds? I just want an Egg McMuffin, not this croissant shit"

So annoying...

LaGuardia has to be the greatest money laundering scheme of all time. Construction never stops there.

I mean most major airports are always doing something.

I mean LAX, O'Hare, Hartsfield ect... all got some shit going on construction wise.

Shit always needs to be either expanded or renovated/replaced due to certain major hub cities seeing sooo much fucking traffic.

The major airports i've seen in the US are dumps compared to those in SEA and the Middle East, and some in Europe. I've come to expect mediocrity at best from US airlines and airports.

I'm project manager on ornamental / miscellaneous steel at laguardia airport

Delta stands for Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport.

Terrible service, and poor structure make their times one of the worst.

Since when is JFK bad? I never understood that sentiment. Shouldnt even be compared to Newark or LGA like that.

Any airport, such as LaGuardia that doesn't have alcohol available near the gates is a travesty. The American terminal at LaGuardia is one horrible place to get delayed.

I have to fly to Poughkeepsie fairly regularly (from Raleigh). I've started to go into Albany, though it requires a hop (Charlotte, Baltimore or Philly). While LaGuardia is a direct flight, the drive down from Albany to Pok is peaceful and beautiful, while getting off LI and driving from LGA north to Pok usually stresses me out.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Have ya been to San Francisco recently?

I visited NY twice - one in 2005 and one in 2007.

Let me tell you that in the decade since I was last there, no major international airport has ever managed to outdo how crappy the experience was in both JFK and LG.

Couple of things:

Depends on the terminal/building you fly from. One is super modern. A couple are OK. Several are trash. Further, it depends on whether you're past or pre-security - there are external areas that are awful, with nice beyond-security gates and facilities.

But before you even get there, there's the fable of: "You can take the subway straight to JFK from downtown."

No. You can't. You have to exit at Jamaica (?) and take all your baggage off the subway and walk with it to a different platform in the station. Then you have to pay another fee because it isn't part of the subway, and board a different type of train.

This may not be a big deal if you're carrying your backpack, but for a family of tourists with luggage it's absolutely chaotic, confusing and burdensome.

Every time I've had this argument with a New Yorker they have defended it. The reality is that it's a crappy, disjointed system that exists in part because of construction/mayoral and port authority graft, bureaucracy and corruption.

If you want to see how it should be done, look at Tokyo (Express) and Heathrow Express. The latter is almost astonishingly quick, direct and simple. 15 minutes from LHR to Paddington. In glorious comfort. Tokyo is almost as good but the city itself is so big that Tokyo, Shinjuku and Shibuya may not feel like enough stations.

Marine Air Terminal at Laguardia is an ancient, decrepit excuse for an airport.

Also, there really needs to be a direct rail link to LGA.

This airport is a nightmare and I avoid it at all costs. Not just because of the terminal, but because it's amazing more planes don't just crash into the water either during take-off or landing. These runways have to the be the shortest ones anywhere.

Is this what Trump had in mind when he talked about public/private partnerships for infrastructure?

Lol. You just reminded me of that blurb about how utter shit US airports are.

Don't really know what's pathetic about JFK according to our Halo resident though. Seems fine and all. Doesn't stand out compared to Detroit or Chicago's O'Hare or Atlanta as far as I'm concerned. Airports that aren't exactly flashy but they aren't shitholes.

EDIT: He explained.
Yeah I just don't fly enough to be burdened by that.

I must be used to Northeast airports (Philly, LGA, JFK etc) because I have never thought they were that bad. I am not there to spend a vacation, and have never really had huge delays luckily
