Demigod: First Trailer! Beta is now out for preorders!

yay, commercial DOTA ripoff

please don't suck

I've liked the concept of every single one of their games, and really loved playing... none of them :(

Looks fantastic. Very well done "trailer" as well-action paced, showing off the cool art and units.

Looking forward to the beta and some real "gameplay" movies in the future.

Is this really another DotA rip off? Looks promising in comparison to the others.

Not quite, it's in the same vein.. but there are differences.

Players can either be a hero, or a more traditional rts builder type. Not sure really much more than that.

"That looked awesome. What's this game all about?"

"Commercial DOTA ripoff."

Harsh, but semi-accurate. It's a Strategy/ActionRPG (heavily) inspired by Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft III custom scenario/map where you take control of one Hero unit and try to destroy the other team's "Ancient." NPC AI-controlled little units called "creeps" spawn and go about their business. Heroes gain XP and money from killing these, with which they buy new equipment and level up and get more powerful abilities. In this game a lot of that carries over. You try to destroy the other team's Stronghold and you still (mainly) control one Hero unit, but Demigod tries to take the idea a bit further. While largely you still control one Hero unit (a demigod), but there's two types of them. Assassin types and General types. With General demigods you control one unit, but that one unit can build some special units to give simple orders to of their own, not relying solely on the NPC spawned ones. With assassin ones you only control that single demigod.

That's really all that's known at the moment. They've admitted that DOTA is a heavy influence but are assuring folks that it won't just be DOTA Clone + budget.

So basically, RTS with one character and no resource management?

That's kinda hot.

I just want to see some top down (RTS camera) gameplay videos. Graphics wise it already looks 1000x better than DOTA.

I want to see the hud, gameplay, a bunch of heroes, and some spells.

edit: upon reading the thread I can't wait for assassin hero only games.

Ya, dota rocks.

It's going to be hard to top, one of dota's best aspect is the huge amount of heroes.

Is it going to come with an editor so fans could re-create dota? You know to wet our appetites before Starcraft II's editor comes out.

That and its constant updates. If this game doesn't get updated regularly with heroes and items it probably won't keep me interested for too long.

Wow. Looks pretty awesome, but come on. You're going to need the highest end PC on the market to run the game at a smooth framerate and have it look that good. v_v

"OMG.

But... but... I swore of MMO's forever! Will, crumbling..."

I'm not sure how you figured this was an MMO.

The game runs on the Supreme Commander-engine, is on a smaller scale than SupCom, and from interviews supposedly runs better than SupCom. So you'll probably only need the highest end PC on the market from late 2006.

I've has a boner over this game since the GFW Magazine cover story. I cannot wait for this class to end so I can check out the trailer.

Beta you say?

Excellent. Too bad the game won't come until like early next year, but whatever it takes to make this game as awesome as it could be.

If you DD version of the game, you get into beta. (Rumored mid august)

I'm glad it will lack the grind. That trailer was awesome.

Just so we're on the same page here, it's an RTS.

nice, I've been looking for a reason other than the launcher to use Impulse

So stuff carries over from game to game? I thought it was like DotA where you would just choose your hero, level and gather items and when you went to a new game you would restart. So what actually carries over from game to game? Is there like a leveling or skill system?

There's a side mode that's like the Boneyard stuff from TA where you have a persistent hero that levels up through battles and there's a meta-game where you're trying to make your Demigod ascend to godhood.

All of that is just an optional game mode and doesn't apply to ranked/ladder games (You have to restart from scratch each time there) and you can still play the "normal" way in your hosted games.

Oh yes. This looks great.

Also add in a dash of Sacrifice. So people wanting a commercial Dota really its not trying to do that.

So...if I buy this on Impulse, do I have to load Impulse before I can run the game? If so, I'd rather just get the boxed version and play it sans-CD like Sins.

One thing I don't get is I ordered Demigod DD... but i did'nt have to sign up for anything.. I"m curious how it's going to give me the game....
