Slap a wig on a pale-skinned pretty woman with big tits and call it a day.

You know there are soooo many fair-skinned people living in Northern Africa. Plus, as far as being a ruler of Egypt? Of course she's solely inbred, to protect her pure, fair skin!

The idea that nobody would accept a black woman but would rather have European or Israeli people play Cleopatra just seems so.... Hollywood. You'd rather argue shes inbred to all mutated hell, than accept that she could be just a little bit "BLACK".

Either way, Hollywood will make this white, since the audience wouldn't accept Caesar and Antony falling for a dark-skinned queen, not in their history. Wouldn't watch this anyway.

what

Sure.

After he does Star Wars and Dune and Foundation and Hyperion.

I hope he should stay as far away from Disney movies as possible. Only way I can accept a SW movie is a standalone where Disney has absolutely no say in it.. which means it won't happen. I do hope he skips this and focuses on Dune and a new IP though :p

lol @doja. Time to go back and read a book before you cry about race mate. What an ignorant comment.

go watch his catalog. guy can't miss, it seems.

He can definitively miss and he did at the beginning of his career lol. August 32nd on Earth suffered from a massive rejection from the public (far worse than Mother!) and it stayed in theaters for a week or two. Villeneuve isn't a Christopher Nolan type who's going to go on a streak of several box office hits and he's fueled by project which interest him (which often aren't geeks related) so I wouldn't be surprised if he does Cleopatra as he's got a bias toward female leads (obvious if you watch his catalog).

You do realize that there’s a good chance Cleopatra would be classified as “white” by today’s standards right? At the very least there’s little to no evidence she would have been a dark-skinned African. The known parentage we have for her is Macedonian. At best she’d be biracial with an Egyptian mother, and even there many ethnic Egyptians and people of Middle Eastern descent aren’t “black”.

As to the movie, given how lavish the original film was in a way that’s be unreproducable today, really I don’t see the point unless they went for a much more historically accurate version.

Cleopatra was an imperialist Greek queen of a subjugated native people, most of whom were in slavery, and her family line was so terrified of losing their pure Greek (ie, white) bloodline they resorted to incest to maintain their Greek supremacy. She herself married two of her brothers, and led a civil war that ended in the deaths of large numbers of natives against one of said brothers, people used as fodder to satisfy an imperialist spat. She's literally the definition of a white imperialist conqueror. Arguing she should be played as black person for the sole reason of using said casting to be used as something black people should hang their hat on is the equivalent of someone making a damned Ghandi movie and casting Winston Churchill as a misunderstood native indian who should be a icon of Indian culture.
