Destiny Alpha Gameplay Leaks [Update: Luke from Bungie comments, read post 1557]

lol I can't believe ADS is an actual common complaint in this thread.

I mean all modern FPS have it, and it's not really a shocker or news. Didn't other Destiny gameplay footage showed ADS? And I really don't think it's going be a determinant on how well the game is too :p

You're supposed to stay close to the "ship" to upload data. If you step away from the radius, you stop uploading. There's a time limit on the event, and the player simply failed to get to 100% upload in the time frame. I'd imagine it's more manageable with more people.

Ah, I see.

Some sort of SOS flare or something could be good, to alert those on the map.

Maybe something along the lines of…

It looks fun but you really have to look beyond the boring playstyle of the player.

It really annoys me when people always go ADS and then empty their whole mag even though the sight is clearly not on target. This player does that ALL of the time. And he/she also reloads after five bullets, even though it's in the middle of a fight in plain open sight.

Definitely looks like the Dinklage lines are either early or haven't gone through post. There's one line that has effects and sounds totally different to the rest of the VO in that last video.

I think anyone in that public bubble will get notified the same way the player did and its up to them to join or not. I want to play a support type character, so I will be hunting down as many public events as possible.

UI looks awesome. I'm a sucker for a good UI.

The rest looks good just not impressive. Doesn't scream "revolution". Art wise is excellent but I'm still very unsure about it.

I think I'll end up buying it since there's no other shooter really grabbing my attention right now but we'll see.

If these games weren't expensive as hell it would be an easier decision...

Combat looked better there than it did in the first two parts of the first leak. Enemies were pretty fucking dumb in the opening waves, but the later dudes looked legitimately challenging. I hope the game proceeds in that fashion as your character evolves, because the bottom-tier Fallen and the Hive are mind-numbingly dull.
Bungie has always been pretty good at making enemy AI fun to fight. I'm sure there will be plenty of challenging encounters.

This is the same gameplay video I saw from Vimeo:

Hmmm. I'm not impressed. Looks rather dull to me. Pretty, but dull. I mean, I shouldn't feel bored while watching gameplay of a game that hasn't even been released yet. And why was he hip firing so much? It's obvious this isn't Halo. Kinda feels like an attempt to draw in players from that series by saying "hey the gameplay isn't much different"... but it is.

Not liking the points for each bullet that hits the enemy either. Messy as fuck

Let's just say the player has no clue what he was doing.

And standing still while ADS is situational lol. That seems like a silly complaint with ADS.

Sub machine guns are my preferred weapons in COD, and you need to be able to move while ADS pretty well to be effective at using it.

luckily Bungielands has a beta so we won't need gameplay videos to decide whether we want to buy the game.

I forgot to add. The menus that we've seen so far look awesome.
They look very clean, but using full screen menus in a game that can't be paused is a terrible idea. Even the Souls games let you keep at least the tiniest bit of situational awareness while you're messing with your gear, and those games are basically UI design cautionary tales.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The voice-over is good, just un-processed for most of those videos.

The objectives list on the UI is very obtrusive. Should be above the radar, not below where it obscures vision needed during gameplay.

Watched them all. my thoughts

- Finally some actual footage that shows us what it really is like.
- Glad we got this instead of another scripted stage demo/no smoke and mirrors or anything misleading
- Looks like a blend of halo game play with sort of some borderlands elements but leans way more towards halo (I'm ok with this)
- AI looks dumb as a bag of hammers
- Endless respawning enemies? WTF.
- Interior areas all look the same but this could be maybe due to the videos all taking place in the same location? Interested to see other areas.
- Companion AI voice acting is absolutely horrible. Sounds like placeholder voice work.
- RPG elements look cool

Not gonna be a system seller for me personally.

Exactly. I don't see how people can't seem to understand that.

It is the reason why companies dont like leaks like this. The companies have to present some of these things in a certain light otherwise you get a lot of people looking at slices out of context and causes harm to the brand.

Actually in all the previous videos he uses ADS constantly and people were complaining about that a lot. I bet he decided to try hip-fire because of some of the responses/complaints.

Anyway, I do hope that hip-fire is as accurate as ADS in this game as some people are claiming. Recoil looks exaggerated in hip-fire (compared to ADS) a bit in the most recent vid all though that just could be because the player is bad.

Agree, except for AI (it's very early enemies -- granted I don't agree with the game design principle which essentially is "early game = dumb AI") and respawning enemies. The latter being I suspect public areas need to constantly have enemies to shoot. I don't think enemies respawn in missions and the like.

Going through the last few pages, and I'm kinda bummed to see the Bungie faithful equally unimpressed with these videos...

Glad it isn't just me though.

I kind of hate when companies pick a famous voice actor for shit like this. It's not even like you're asking much of him that the job requires a major talent. I'm just constantly reminded that the guy from Game of Thrones is talking to me. It's not an addition to the game, unless having a big name attached makes people happy.

I'm still not ready to completely give up on this game, but I'm really, really close.

Halo + Borderlands = Destiny.

Unfortunately, Borderlands already fits this void - shame I thought it would be different.

One thing that definitely concerns me is that it seems like Bungie has traded the tightly constricted level designs and campaign missions of Halo for a litany of mundane objectives like "defend the hack point", "collect the sapphire wires" etc. It begins to feel like a laundry list of work I need to do rather than enjoyable entertainment.

Here's hoping there's some more creative or elaborate missions in the game...

Eh they have always done defend "something" tho. Not sure how that's a bad thing.
Hell Halo CE had you defend the Marines three times in a row at the start.
